#2100411 Wings Negotiating w/ Nabokov

Posted by ogreslayer on 20 January 2011 - 12:51 PM

Well if he can get through waivers, this might turn out to be one hell of a steal. I think the problems in SJ didn't start & end with Nabby in goal like some would believe. I do think the move says less about the organization's belief in Howard & more about Ozzie's injury status.

#2098823 All-Star Game

Going to the skills competition might be interesting but I wouldn't drop that much money on tix for the ASG. Save it & use it to buy tix for the Wings in the finals this season.

#2095987 Name Me a Better 2-Way Player Today than Henrik Zetterberg…

Posted by ogreslayer on 11 January 2011 - 03:44 PM

Best 2 way player in the game on a consistent basis? Currently watching games from the press box with a broken wrist.

OK, granted Dats & Z are like 1A & 1B. And I have to add, if either one of them wanted to concentrate on offense only, there's no question in my mind that either one would lead the league in scoring.

#2095882 2011 All-Star Rosters Game rosters named

Gotta admit I would have been psyched to see Helm in the 'Fastest Skater' competition though. :P

I really want to see Helm compete in the shooting accuracy event myself :hehe:

#2087290 What's the deal with Stuart

Posted by ogreslayer on 30 December 2010 - 08:35 AM

I agree with you and the other guy who mentioned this. They asked Stuart to change his style of play a bit and he's adjusting. It makes sense that he would be out of position more frequently because of that. He'll adjust, or if he doesn't they'll put him back to his old style of play. They're auditioning for Lidstrom's replacement.

I think it has more to do with the fact that being paired with Lids means he's playing on the side opposite of what he's used to. He's said in the past that he doesn't feel comfortable doing that & I would have a feeling that being out of his comfort zone has effected his game somewhat.

Personally, I didn't mind it at all. In fact, I'm in favor of the NHL switching back to using the whites for home games.

#2060435 Bettman Moving on?

WOW, please discuss this!! Curious on everyones insight and thoughts.

I'm crossing my fingers, toes, eyes...hell I've got my testicles crossed too hoping that Bettman's done soon. I don't think MLB would be dumb enough to bring him in as commish though. Just imagine the World Series being played on the Home & Garden Network.

#2047539 Wings need a goalie

Posted by ogreslayer on 15 October 2010 - 04:11 PM

I don't care if the Wings had the bastard child of Terry Sawchuk & Dominik Hasek in goal last night, they weren't going to win with the way the entire team played. Can't pin that loss on Ozzie alone at all.

#2044836 Kirk Maltby to announce he is retiring

Posted by ogreslayer on 12 October 2010 - 02:51 PM

I wish he had retired so that Ritola could have been retained, but it wasn't reasonable to expect him to do so.

Maltby's decision had no bearing on the Wings having to send Ritola down to GR & go through waivers at all. It was a decision on only being able to keep 2 out of the 3 from Eaves, Miller, & Ritola. One had to naturally assume that unless he set the world on fire, Maltby wasn't going to stay with the big club. If he had, we would have been talking about keeping only 1 out of the 3 above.

#2014902 Riley Sheahan puck-tricks

Posted by ogreslayer on 14 July 2010 - 02:23 PM

This is what has me excited most about Sheahan putting on the Winged Wheel one day. From the freep...

You noticed Sheahan's size out there," Nill said of Riley Sheahan (6-feet-2, 200 pounds), drafted 21st overall last month. "Guys take runs and bounce off him."

More of this please!

#1998150 "Detroit sucks" chant at Cup celebration?

Posted by ogreslayer on 11 June 2010 - 10:54 AM

Just further proof how insecure the Hawks "fans" are about their team...still. Pretty pathetic when your team just won their first Cup since the 60's and all you seem to care about is how Wings fans feel about it.

#1996381 Trade Cleary?

Posted by ogreslayer on 08 June 2010 - 03:14 PM

By all accounts Clears is one of the hardest working players on the team, a great locker room guy, doesn't ***** & moan about his role on the team no matter what's being asked of him on a game-to-game basis, has proven what a warrior he is by playing through a nasty groin injury in the playoffs last year & knee injuries this season, has a fair amount of skill while not being afraid of going into the ugly areas of the ice, and practically has a winged wheel tattooed on his chest after the opportunity the Wings organization gave him when about every other team in the NHL considered him a wash out... Sure, let's go ahead & trade him.

OK never say never, but in my opinion the Wings wouldn't get a player back with nearly the heart & determination they get from Clears.

#1995836 Why Holmstrom

Posted by ogreslayer on 07 June 2010 - 12:43 PM

So I just had a conversation with a local Flyers fan. He couldn't believe how cheaply the Wings re-signed Homer for and was bemoaning the hometown discounts the Wings consistently get. In his own words, he would have loved to seen Homer on the Flyers for twice what he signed for in Detroit & of course thought the ~$6.2m that Nick signed for was rediculously low too. It's just amazing how spoiled two decades of winning can make a fan base...

#1964199 Lester B. Pearson Award renamed - Lindsay!

Posted by ogreslayer on 28 April 2010 - 10:50 AM

Having the NHLPA's MVP award named for one of the men responsible for the formation of the group instead a Canadian Prime Minister with no connection to the game makes perfect sense. Great move in my opinion.
