LOL at people bringing up how the Islanders are a horrible team. It's not like Crosby ever scores points against any of the good teams in the league, right?
This blind hatred is really funny sometimes.
Of course he's going to score points against good teams - he's a good player, like him or not. It's not about Sid; it's about the media. They're ready to hand the Pens the Cup right here and now based on ONE GAME he played in. Could the Pens win the Cup this year? Sure. But I expect media professionals to make that prediction based on some solid stats collected over a period of time. I do expect the Pens to do well, especially with Crosby back, but I'm not going to declare it the Second Coming and demand that Bettman cancel the playoffs this year and give the Pens the Cup now. based on a game against the Islanders. If that's blind hate, then the blind haters still have a lot more sense left than the hockey media does.
Ha, that's great! I wonder what the heck caused it... I did see a car the other day with a Whalers sticker on it - maybe we really are in a time warp! As long as it's the 1996-97 season, the last season they were in the league, I'm okay with that.
Well, that would TOTALLY fix the problem! Instead of having Winnipeg in the SE, which obviously makes no sense because of its northerly location, let's put Detroit in the SE - it's WAY closer to the southeastern United States than Winnipeg is!
I don't know why I'm wasting sarcasm on this because I really don't think this is going to happen. This just seems a little too illogical even for the NHL. For as many bonehead moves as they make, I still don't think they would waste their time on something so ineffectual. Whatever...not going to waste time trying to understand it until it happens.
I liked our 5 goals; I didn't like their 3 goals. More PK practice for everyone. Anyway, a big heck yeah to Bert for scoring the first goal of the year; ditto to Lidstrom looking like Datsyuk, White looking like Lidstrom, and double ditto for Emmerton and Hudler pleasantly surprising me. GAWD I'm glad hockey's back!!!
Just another pointless post in a pointless thread, if you ask me. How exactly does the opinion of some idiot at HockeyBuzz of all places have any importance whatsoever? I realize it's the off-season and that we're not going to get any interesting news for at least a few more weeks, but why not post something from a blog that isn't a complete joke?
Right?! My exact thoughts earlier today were 1) I can't believe he's retiring, and 2) I can't believe he's OLD enough TO retire...judging by his looks, surely he's got another 10 years in him!
I will miss that guy immensely. I know I've criticized him in the past, but you know I appreciate every achievement he's helped us reach. Been moody and listening to Skynyrd's Tuesday's Gone and Freebird (my official "now it's time to say goodbye" songs, for some reason) all day yesterday and today. Fly on, Freebird.
Oh, okay, so they're mostly chewing out Mickey and Murph...I can see that. I was going to say, "Gosh, I can see how Mickey might not be a favorite with non-fans, but how can you badmouth Ken?" Answer: they didn't.
Murph makes you go "huh?" at first, but once you figure out he's plastered, it's a friggin' ball listening to him. Mickey's just a really big personality...you either like him or you don't, I guess.
I can't believe they would give any broadcast including Eddie Olczyk more than one star...I'll take Mickey's tall tales over Olczyk's herp de derp any day. I do agree that the Kings announcers are great and that the Ducks guys are infuriating, though.
Well done, Timmy! Scratch that - awesomely done! I love a comeback story and I love a kick-some-ass story, so to have the two combined is pretty sweet, and it couldn't happen to a cooler guy. Congrats on the Cup and the Conn Smythe - enjoy!
Yayyy San Diego for coming in 13th! No, seriously, we never get excited about anything around here, so that's pretty good for us. We did better than a certain city east of us which has a hockey team and a higher population, too, ahem. (Gosh darn it, can't we even get a minor league team up in here?!)
I voted for McCrimmon, Hudler, Ericsson, and Salei. Filppula I could take or leave, too, but if he stays, I won't be ticked. I'm not over the moon about MacDonald, but he's got the right price tag on him, so if they want to keep him and use the money saved to bone up on defense instead, that's fine with me.
I didn't vote for anybody who's possibly just going to retire anyway, so I left out Modano, Ozzie, and Draper. Oz and Drapes can stay if they want, even if they shouldn't.
The downers for this matchup, besides seeing the Flyers for the second time in three years, are the sexier options we've all imagined for both teams. Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins at Penn State.
Hahahaha, I know what they're getting at - that they would've wanted a Battle of PA match-up if both teams hadn't already had turns - but the funny part is that it sounds like something the NHL would do despite their past appearances.
Blah. I care about this one even less than last year's. And what the heck is the point of putting in the Rangers if you're not going to have it at Yankee Stadium? That's pretty much the ONLY reason to have the Rangers in a WC at all - the location! Of course, it's not the same ol' Yankee Stadium anyway, but still, at least you've got a semblance of tradition there. Why not save them until you can get the date you want at the place you want? It's not like they're having some kind of surge in popularity that makes it necessary for them to be in it this year.
