Thoughts on the current forward lineup

Not sure if this has been posted yet but, I've been glancing at the forward set up for the upcoming "tentative" season. Based on Babcock's history of line combinations, I think there are plenty of options he'll look at , but these are the two that seem likely in my eyes. CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Damien Brunner ($1.350m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.750m) / Danny Cleary ($2.800m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) and CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m) Damien Brunner ($1.350m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.750m) / Danny Cleary ($2.800m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) The 4th line of Miller-Abs-Cleary and the Euro-twin options are very dependent on Brunner, Nyquist, and Samuelsson playing up to the level that they are capable of. Thoughts?

Looking for a good documentary/book on hockey history

If you have any interest in managing, scouting, and other business aspects of the game, Behind the Moves: NHL GMs is an amazing book. Its a little pricey but worth it. Another great read on more recent hockey history, with some great stories on the Wings is Road to Hockeytown by Jim Devellano. You mentioned learning about canadian hockey schools but possibly my favorite is Road to Olympus by Anatoly Tarasov, who was the creator of the Soviet hockey school. As far as documentaries are concerned, I really haven't seen any that really fit what youre looking for

Our Current Defense / What Holland Can Do *merged

My opinion that has some decent risk with the potential for very high reward is to submit an offer sheet to Kulikov. Consistent and steady in all three zones with a high driven passing game and great work ethic. He's played in all situations and at the right price could be one of the best options in the league. I don't see a guy like Tallon, however letting him get away. My guess is the offer would have to be roughly 4mil, which sends a 1st rounder to Florida. I don't see any reason not to pursue for all the upside this kid brings.

    Holland Content with Current Roster

Holland should be content with our forward situation as we got an energetic enforcer in Tootoo, a veteran winger in Sammy, and this guy to replace Hudler... If he can use the trade market to pick up a top 4 d-man without overspending, ill be pretty happy too.

    Are Russian players "really" lazy

HAHAHA. Your lack of hockey knowledge astounds me. The Russian national team has been ranked in the top 2 for the last 5 years, the last 4 being ranked #1 in the IIHF international Men's Rankings. They haven't fallen out of the top 5 since 2004. As far as their playing style goes, the system is based on the betterment of the team, fundamentals that were placed on the program during its starting Soviet years by Anatoly Tarasov who describes the ideal player as "having tactical intuition, precision work with his partners, perfect orientation, a feeling of the game, the ability to see, understand, and even anticipate the actions of the closest and furthermost opponents and partners. And what is most important, all these qualities must be retained and put into use in the toughest moments of the game, when the pitch of a game is at its highest, when the emotions of players are as taut as bow strings." These are the characteristics that Tarasov placed upon his team when founding the program in the USSR and these characteristics still hold true to the system today. Watch an international game played by the Russian nationals; every player, even guys like Semin and Radulov, are working their ass off for their team and anything it takes to make them win.

    Now what?

Unless the plan is to let Abby walk with his replacement being Tootoo, then the cap space is around the 8mil Agreed

    Now what?

Extra bodies = opportunity for the Nash deal. If the price stays high on Nash and a deal with Parise isn't met. Ken now has the option to dish away assets for a guaranteed top-six forward in Nash, while still having NHL talent throughout the line-up. By no means is he done yet.

    Latendresse

the lower the price, the lower the risk and ,IMO, this is the kind of deal that Kenny can get done for a good bargain. a player like latendresse can really spread out the depth of the lineup and give babs more options. i like the idea if, as i said, the price is right

    Latendresse

I do like the dynamic that latendresse could bring to the lineup. Nathan Gerbe: Tough Guy

This is a clip from Law and Order: SVU and shows how the writers took about 4 seconds to find out hockey stats before making this scene. Still funny.
