#2538563 Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?

Posted by kipwinger on 06 October 2014 - 02:18 PM

He says that, then puts Abby on the top line....

Yea, Z will really get er going with Abby on the Wing.

Just like demoting Weiss after not registering a point while given third line minutes with Kevinf****** Porter on his wing.

How is it that he didn't lead the team in points with opportunities like that?

Ya I don't understand how Weiss isn't in. He's a good player and should be playing with top 6 talent. Big mistake

They said the same thing about Vrbata and Neilsen yet they score at a 50% rate.

Datsyuk has 1 move, he just either goes forehand or backhand. Aside from last year when he was struggling through a knee injury he still scores close to 50%

I've tried endlessly to defend Franzen, but his attitude is just killing me right now.  The canned responses from some athletes can get somewhat tiresome, but Franzen's finger pointing and basically blaming the fans for expecting him to produce more is nauseating.  Acting like he's some 4th liner who got a little lucky a few times around the net makes him look like an unmotivated lazy idiot. Putting out the impression that he's some Selke candidate who would be hurting the team if he actually tried to score more, just unbelievable.  I don't even think he's in the top 10 on his own team defensively, let alone in the league. Playing well defensively doesn't seem to stop Hossa from scoring. He's a scorer who doesn't want to score, he's a big guy who won't use his body, and he uses his lower than average defense as an excuse for all of it.  Enough already.

I think there's a difference between wanting a guy to fail, and thinking he's going to fail. Do I want Dan Cleary to have a 20-20 year and work on the PK? Absolutely, but I don't think that's going to happen. I think sometimes people get so caught up in disliking the decisions that a team makes, that they turn their focus to the player instead. I know I'm guilty of that (*cough* Quincey *cough*).

As far as the defense goes, I think Quincey is safe for now. If anyone should be worried, I think it's Kindl.

Ouellet's right on his heels, I'd say. So far he's looked completely in place on this team's blueline, and he played over 24 minutes last night. Perhaps it's just me, but I think Ouellet's is way ahead of the other three guys vying for spots right now. Sproul looked amazing on the PP, but definitely has to shore up his work in the defensive zone. Backman will need this season to transition to NA play, but once he does, he'll be very reliable. Marchenko is worrying me a bit - I hope his ankle injury doesn't prove to be an issue. He's looked a bit off so far, IMO.

You forgot the most important stat.

Cleary was a -2

great 4th line shift

He did not draw the penalty, Datsyuk did.

He had a terrible turnover early but that play you're mentioning he did not look out of place. He's got great patience plays with his head up
I'm predicting Tatar-Datsyuk and Nyquist-Zetterberg will be the money combinations all year.

Now if the Wings dressed some enforcers for that game.....That knee injury would've never happened.

#2536342 Dekeyser signed. 2 yrs $2.187 million AAV

Posted by Wheelchairsuperhero on 16 September 2014 - 05:03 PM

A lot of people posting about how he was low balled, but not one praising Holland for getting him so cheap? Anyway will this deal end with him being an RFA or a UFA?

#2536180 Nice article on Mantha

Posted by Euro_Twins on 14 September 2014 - 08:35 AM

Let's not hope Babcock tries to turn him into a defenseman..../ sarcasm

I can see your point... Let him be fed and rack up points; Ya think he could put up more points playing with Pavs and Hank versus Abby?

My left shoe could put up more points than Abby playing with z and d.

#2535974 Ericsson and Alfredsson not 100%

Posted by rick zombo on 11 September 2014 - 02:32 PM

Just wait for the first in-game injury. This forum is going to be something.

This forum is going to be 'something' regardless of what happens.

If Mantha plays 40 games and has 15 goals it won't be:

"Awesome, this kid's the real deal and our future is secure. Way to go Holland and staff for drafting this guy!!!!"

It will be: " f*** you Kenny for signing Cleary and Quincey and letting Hossa go and not giving me a team as tough as Calgary and for not signing Niskanen"

Some dudes on here have spent too much time building their opinions and reputations and dealing in absolutes. Whatever happens this year, people are going to feel the need to spin it whatever way they need to in order to back up their zealousness.

#2534581 Alfie wants to play

Ryan Suter and David Backes

I think Kopitar and Weber are better fits. Kopitar could center our 3rd line if Helm is injured again.

#2535093 Lines Thread

Posted by kipwinger on 28 August 2014 - 02:03 PM

I want nothing to do with a Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Alfie (or Nyquist) top line.  It should be wildly clear over the last five or six post seasons that we don't have anyone scoring down low.  Giving another perimeter guy top line minutes is a recipe for failure.  I'd rather lose a little bit of offense but change the dynamic of our attack than keep throwing the same one dimensional attack at teams over and over and over.  Jurco showed a willingness to use his body to protect the puck, was strong in the corners, and had no problem creating offense in traffic.  Plus, despite rookie linemates, limited minutes, and no powerplay time, his offensive number projected very favorably to Alfie's over a full season (and should only increase with D and Z).

As such...

Z-Dats-Jurco

Nyquist-Weiss-Franzen

Tatar-Sheahan-Abby

Miller-Helm-Glendening/Callahan/Cleary

#2535070 Lines Thread

Posted by krsmith17 on 28 August 2014 - 06:54 AM

I've posted a lineup similar to this before but I would like to see something like this on opening night (October 9th) against Boston...

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson

Nyquist - Franzen - Tatar

Helm - Weiss - Abdelkader

Miller - Sheahan - Callahan

Cleary - Glendening

Kronwall - Ericsson

DeKeyser - Smith

Quincey - Ouellet (more likely Kindl...)

Lashoff

I really think that this top line would dominate. The skill across that line would match any line in the league in my opinion. The key for them would be for all three to stay healthy. I really believe that Hank will play at least 70-75 games this season and Datsyuk will play somewhere close to that as well. My only concern is Alfredsson. I hope he takes it easy and doesn't push himself too hard, especially to start the season. I think he can play somewhere around 65-70 if he is careful and listens to his body and takes a lot of "maintenance days"...

I would love to see this two kids and a Mule line as our second line. Franzen plays his best hockey when he is playing center. He is third on the team in faceoff percentage going into this season (behind Datsyuk and Zetterberg), based on last years stats of players that took at least 100 faceoffs. 225 faceoffs taken at 52.9%. I really think the two kids (Gus & Tats) would keep him energized. I've always thought that Franzen starts his floating ways when he plays on a line with Pav or Hank. It's almost like he feels that he doesn't need to work as hard with them because he knows the puck will find him and he will still produce, even at half pace. Maybe playing with the two kids, he will take on more of a leadership role and that, along with playing down the middle will light a much needed fire under his ass...

I think third line minutes is best for Weiss to start the season. Maybe promote him after 10 or so games if he looks good and hungry or if the lines aren't working out or if coach Babs just want to mix things up for some unexplainable reason... I kinda want to switch Abdelkader and Sheahan but I think Abby is better suited for the wing. With Helm's health concerns over the past few seasons I think third line wing is a great spot for him to play and hopefully stay relatively healthy. His wheels could really be put on display on the wing as well.

I think this could be a great forth line and I absolutely love the grit that Callahan would bring to the line. I would like to see Cleary rotated in to get his ten games in on this line or possibly the third line depending on how he looks in training camp. I do like Glendening but I just don't see where he fits on this team going forward...
