#2536437 Mantha's Injury

Posted by F.Michael on 17 September 2014 - 01:52 PM

Now if the Wings dressed some enforcers for that game.....That knee injury would've never happened.

#2536342 Dekeyser signed. 2 yrs $2.187 million AAV

A lot of people posting about how he was low balled, but not one praising Holland for getting him so cheap? Anyway will this deal end with him being an RFA or a UFA?

#2536180 Nice article on Mantha

Posted by Euro_Twins on 14 September 2014 - 08:35 AM

Let's not hope Babcock tries to turn him into a defenseman..../ sarcasm

I can see your point... Let him be fed and rack up points; Ya think he could put up more points playing with Pavs and Hank versus Abby?

My left shoe could put up more points than Abby playing with z and d.

#2535974 Ericsson and Alfredsson not 100%

Posted by rick zombo on 11 September 2014 - 02:32 PM

Just wait for the first in-game injury. This forum is going to be something.

This forum is going to be 'something' regardless of what happens.

If Mantha plays 40 games and has 15 goals it won't be:

"Awesome, this kid's the real deal and our future is secure. Way to go Holland and staff for drafting this guy!!!!"

It will be: " f*** you Kenny for signing Cleary and Quincey and letting Hossa go and not giving me a team as tough as Calgary and for not signing Niskanen"

Some dudes on here have spent too much time building their opinions and reputations and dealing in absolutes. Whatever happens this year, people are going to feel the need to spin it whatever way they need to in order to back up their zealousness.

#2534581 Alfie wants to play

Ryan Suter and David Backes

I think Kopitar and Weber are better fits. Kopitar could center our 3rd line if Helm is injured again.

I want nothing to do with a Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Alfie (or Nyquist) top line.  It should be wildly clear over the last five or six post seasons that we don't have anyone scoring down low.  Giving another perimeter guy top line minutes is a recipe for failure.  I'd rather lose a little bit of offense but change the dynamic of our attack than keep throwing the same one dimensional attack at teams over and over and over.  Jurco showed a willingness to use his body to protect the puck, was strong in the corners, and had no problem creating offense in traffic.  Plus, despite rookie linemates, limited minutes, and no powerplay time, his offensive number projected very favorably to Alfie's over a full season (and should only increase with D and Z).

As such...

Z-Dats-Jurco

Nyquist-Weiss-Franzen

Tatar-Sheahan-Abby

Miller-Helm-Glendening/Callahan/Cleary

I've posted a lineup similar to this before but I would like to see something like this on opening night (October 9th) against Boston...

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson

Nyquist - Franzen - Tatar

Helm - Weiss - Abdelkader

Miller - Sheahan - Callahan

Cleary - Glendening

Kronwall - Ericsson

DeKeyser - Smith

Quincey - Ouellet (more likely Kindl...)

Lashoff

I really think that this top line would dominate. The skill across that line would match any line in the league in my opinion. The key for them would be for all three to stay healthy. I really believe that Hank will play at least 70-75 games this season and Datsyuk will play somewhere close to that as well. My only concern is Alfredsson. I hope he takes it easy and doesn't push himself too hard, especially to start the season. I think he can play somewhere around 65-70 if he is careful and listens to his body and takes a lot of "maintenance days"...

I would love to see this two kids and a Mule line as our second line. Franzen plays his best hockey when he is playing center. He is third on the team in faceoff percentage going into this season (behind Datsyuk and Zetterberg), based on last years stats of players that took at least 100 faceoffs. 225 faceoffs taken at 52.9%. I really think the two kids (Gus & Tats) would keep him energized. I've always thought that Franzen starts his floating ways when he plays on a line with Pav or Hank. It's almost like he feels that he doesn't need to work as hard with them because he knows the puck will find him and he will still produce, even at half pace. Maybe playing with the two kids, he will take on more of a leadership role and that, along with playing down the middle will light a much needed fire under his ass...

I think third line minutes is best for Weiss to start the season. Maybe promote him after 10 or so games if he looks good and hungry or if the lines aren't working out or if coach Babs just want to mix things up for some unexplainable reason... I kinda want to switch Abdelkader and Sheahan but I think Abby is better suited for the wing. With Helm's health concerns over the past few seasons I think third line wing is a great spot for him to play and hopefully stay relatively healthy. His wheels could really be put on display on the wing as well.

I think this could be a great forth line and I absolutely love the grit that Callahan would bring to the line. I would like to see Cleary rotated in to get his ten games in on this line or possibly the third line depending on how he looks in training camp. I do like Glendening but I just don't see where he fits on this team going forward...

if Callahan is that type of player and turns out to be even better, then he will have a hard time clearing waivers. He will be snatched up, probably by Nill or Yzerman, and we will lose him for the sake of Cleary. This is why I hate Holland and why I commented in the 4 year extension thread my dislike for the extension.

Why don't you wait till that actually happens b4 u jump to conclusions and down Hollands throat. If we lose Callahan to waivers I will be mighty upset as well, but for all we know at this point he makes the team and Cleary doesn't.

point is, he is better than both Q and K.

number9, if you are sore that much put some salve on it, the rash will go away.

Normally I'm not the one crying around here lefty ;)

#2533584 Confused on the direction of this team going forward

Posted by number9 on 02 August 2014 - 11:56 PM

Kronwall elite? No. Elite is the best of the best too many people throw elite around too much.

Kronwall finished 13th in Norris voting this year. That means he's ranked higher than 168 NHL D regulars among the theoretical 180. And that's on a team that was severely injured the entire season, with a weak D, and a goalie in a down year. If elite to you is top 10, cool. But that's good enough to me to not split hairs about it...

#2533429 2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Posted by number9 on 31 July 2014 - 04:59 PM

I find it funny that after all the hoopla Justin Shultz is still unsigned in Edmonton.  Has anyone heard any rumblings going on with him?  Not that we could afford to add him to our roster, but I just thought it very funny that Edmonton "won" the sweepstakes and haven't yet tied him down for another 3 contract.  I would, of course, rather have him than either Q or K...

Also, I see that Jeremy Welsh signed a minor league two-way contract with St. Louis for $550,000.  Damn, I sure would've liked to have him the organization.  Its only a one year though, maybe he could be one of those depth signings next season that Holland likes to do.  He would have been a nice invite to training camp as well if he hadn't signed in St. Louis.  They got them a nice solid depth player.

DeKeyser is still unsigned with us, and we won the sweepstakes on him... What's your point?

So you weren't enthralled with the signings of all of the Nosek, Miele, Porter, Zengerle type players, but you wish we signed a 26 year old AHL checker with all of 25 NHL games on his resume?

Do you really see him ever topping out with something similar to Girardi's peripheral stats, though? Even if DD had the extra 10 or so pounds that Girardi has, I'm not sure he'll ever throw a ton of hits.
I really think he's comparable to Marc-Eduard Vlasic - which, coincidentally, would also be good for us.
I'd LOVE for him to add 15-20 points of muscle in the next few seasons and use his weight better, but I'm not sure he will. Now I just wanna see a monster DeKeyser, making strong tape-to-tape passes and hammering the other team's forwards.

I'd agree about the hits, but I'd also say that it's hard to gauge his willingness to use the body because he's so light right now.  Increase his weight (which will surely happen) and he may well develop that part of his game as he's got the skating ability necessary to be a hitter in the league.  I'm convinced his relative inexperience and skinniness keep those hit numbers down (for now).

If he tops out as either Vlasic or Girardi that would be fantastic just wait till he bulks up and his hits will arrive.

As for Tatar:

The guy has shown tremendous loyality after playing through the most difficult time of his life, so I really hope he gets some sort of reward for that.

Going to work when you're grieving is no doubt difficult.  But that's not something you get "rewarded" for, nor does it show loyalty.  That's life.

Seabrook and Bickell and others from Chicago are available per nhl.com. Would love to have them. Both can make a huge impact on our team. Kenny needs to wake up.

I'd rather not take on Bickell, but Seabrook is exactly what our blueline needs.  That is a trade where I would be willing to use Tatar as a centrepiece.
