...and now those great prospects are and will soon be on HIS NHL team.  Plus he will still be spoon fed great players by the best organization in pro sports.

Hopefully the first time TO is in Detroit, the organization puts together a nice presentation for him, so the fans can cheer and say goodbye.  Maybe just his picture on the scoreboard and announcer saying that the fans and team would like to thank him for 10 years of great hockey!  Crowd erupts, Babcock cries, then Mrazek shut's out the leafs....perfect night.

I asked - and he answered. Jeff Blashill just told me, "I want to be the next head coach of the Detroit Red Wings." #Blashwatch

Only, and I mean only if you reconsider following Kurt Cobain fanpage on facebook.

U ranggggggg?
Why are we talking about the guy from Wendy's?

And what the f*** is my argument again? Are you suggesting that I don't think we should hire Blashill, because it isn't even remotely true.

You seem to be suggesting that everybody should be wary of expecting too much out of Jeff Blashill as head coach.  Because Dave Lewis wasn't a good head coach.  So maybe Blash won't be either.

If that's not what you're saying, then I have absolutely no idea why you'd bring Lewis up.  Other than to try and make some sort of tenuous comparison which isn't grounded in similarity at all.

Why did you bring Lewis up again?

Edit:  Nobody expects Blashill to win the Cup next year.  But here's the thing...nobody expected Babcock to win the Cup next year either (had he stayed).  So expectations are EXACTLY the same.  However, given their relatively similar career trajectories, and the fact that Blashill out performed him in all head to head competition, I don't think it would be a stretch to expect him to be as good as Jon Cooper was in his first season as head coach.  Which is a much more realistic comparison than the phony one you keep trying to make with Dave Lewis.

They said similar things about Dave Lewis too. How'd that work out?
We can find a lot of reasons to help us believe this will or won't work out, but we aren't going to really know until he gets up here and has some real NHL experience. It's a whole different experience than anything he's done before. He may be great, he may be awful. What's more likely is that he'll struggle and grow and perhaps eventually be great. In any event though, we as fans would be wise to manage our expectations so as to avoid disappointment and possibly some knee-jerk reactions if the guy stumbles a bit early on.

And believe me, I'd love to see a nice guy win and a different, more friendly methodology work, just to kill a bit of the idea that you have to be a cold, distant boss who plays mind games to be a winning coach. So I'm rooting for him, and I'm optimistic, but again, we'd do well to try to manage our expectations early on.

I wasn't saying blashill will single handedly bring the cup back right away or anything. Just that he seems like an obvious hire. He's worked with/helped develop half the roster, give or take, and from what the players are saying he seems like a relatable guy. Plus, he clearly wants to be here or he would've left last off season. Sure, I think he can find long term success here and I'm sure there will be some bumps in the road but, there's no better option out there imo. That's all I was saying.

He's just dangling it on the market to see it's value.

Dangling to find out its net worth.  Wants to see if it's a top-shelf house.  Being a bit forward about it, though.  Probably has two realtors and is cross-checking the results.  Or he could be looking into renting and wants to see if anyone is interested in boarding.

I'm gonna shut up now.

Just goes to show how impressive detroit was at shutting Tampa down with how much Tampa has been scoring since. Hope that trend continues with Blash!

#2609217 It's Official: Babcock to coach Maple Leafs

This is where Holland trades Weiss, Smith, and Jurco to Toronto for Phaneuf.

I know he had a tough season, but I still love Jurco's upside. I hope the Wings don't give up on him already and the new coach utilizes his ability more appropriately next season.

An unproven coach at the NHL level so it could go either way. But hey he will for sure make less than the GM and if things aren't working out Holland can sell it as another transition year instead of going for a real rebuild. I feel a bit bad for Orr and McLaren Babs won't play them on the fourth line

Unproven maybe, yet carries the same philosophies as Babs but probably way better in seeing when things don't work.
It won't be as dramatic as your making it out to be. Holland did the right thing whether you agree or not.

Could be better could be worse...Blashill will be in his first year coaching a team that screams fix the damn defense and get tougher ! Fixing this is the job of a GM Blashill just like Babcock can only work with what he has an let's be honest by Wings standards it's not much.

I hope people show some patience with Blashill because the guy is a rookie and will be tasked to get this team into the playoffs for a quarter century

I for one will for sure not expect anything and just hope he gets time to implement his system whatever it will be.

I've believed all along and even spoke about it on 97.1 The Ticket, Detroit/Holland had the upper hand the entire time, either they keep Babs or have Blashill in hand.  No doubt in my mind that Holland pretty much knew this was happening, at least was 90% sure.  I don't doubt Blash is named to be the next HC today.  Blashill has to be flying high right now!  I am too! At least Blash should play the kids in the right spot and not put players in the top 6 that don't belong there!  Jurco and Pulkkinen will prove that they belong higher than the 4th line!

For all our sake's, i hope you are right.
