Even if Pavel somehow likes having Abdelkader on his line (which I doubt), the biggest problem is this extended trial together hasn't worked. At all.
Datsyuk needs skill around him. Not floating Franzen and a two-point grinder with no offensive ability.
The last 8 games the first line hasn't worked either. At least that line maintains some time in the offensive zone. Bert was the Wings most skilled big body and I think the Wings are missing him more than we'd expect.
We are a pass first second third fourth then shoot team!
K this is getting ridiculous...someone's gotta shoot. Dats makes Smyth dizzy and his linemates just watched him instead of getting open. GO TO THE SLOT AND DATS WILL PUT IT ON A PLATTER! what an uneventful period of hockey.
Now defense is the most important thing for our top 2 lines? I thought scoring came first? Abby is so good defensively he DOES NOT play on the PK, so I don't know where Babs is pulling this "he's better defensively" crap from. And do we really have these defensive line matching worries against teams like Columbus? Seriously? Chicago I can see but the Blue Jackets? Come now.
Putting Nyquist immediately on one of the top 2 lines, while a good idea, is a total slap in the face to Tatar who proved he should've been moved up over Cleary and Abby many games ago. Ian White plays like crap and is benched for 6 six games, Cleary plays like crap for weeks and gets moved up from the 2nd to the 1st line?
Our prospects are going to start going the way of free agents in that Detroit is losing its luster for a potential destination. The "overripening" strategy is making less sense these days with the scrubs we continue to sign and ice over proven talent.
I am also looking forward to the mass exodus of bandwagon fans that have jumped on board over the last 20 years. Having gone to Ferris back in the mid 90s, I fell in love with that hockey team and they were not that good. Still, the 2,000 fans that showed up to the games were enjoyable to watch the game with. They were knowledgeable and appreciative of what the team brought every night. Sure, they weren't a 1st place team, but hell they worked hard and the fans appreciated it.
When they had a great season in 2003 and won the CCHA title, the morons came out of the woodwork the next year. The arena was sold out every night, but talking with these people were annoying. They bitched non-stop about the team. They bitched non-stop about the coaching staff. It was less about enjoying the hockey game and all about a "what have you done for me" attitude. After a down season, the morons went away and it was back to normal again.
So yes, Top 10 pick if they don't make the playoffs and we get to start the "fan" purge.
They are going to need a little more than that. A top defenseman would also be on my list.
Can you please refer me to some good Florida Panthers sites?
