LOL, if you're going to correct someone for being wrong, at least be right.

 

The NHL players are insured during the Olympics by the IOC.  Will they pay when the player was already injured.  It'll be interesting to see.

 

A normal All Star Break is 4 days, five or six at most. The Olympic Break is 17 days.  In US Math, 9+4 or 5 or 6 doesn't equal 17.  Not sure about the math where you're from.

 

Well, let's see.

1. IOC does not insure anybody. The national hockey federations (like USA Hockey) do. They have done so in the past and there's no reason to doubt that they will pay if liable. The contracts are insured with he same pool of insurance companies that the NHL uses, so I don't see why it would make any difference to those insurance companies, whether they pay the same amount of money to the Red Wings on the policy taken by the Wings themselves, or by the Swedish Hockey Federation.

2. I don't know about "US Math" but in normal math, here's how it works:

The last 2 All-Star breaks were 5 days each.

The Olympic break this year consists of: Feb. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23,  24. That's 16 days by my count (not 17). So the difference is 16 - 5 = 11 days. OK it's 11 days and not 9 days over almost 200 days season (Pre-season NHL games started Sept. 14, Playoffs will go till about the end of May). Such a biiig difference.

I don't think Alfie came here to win a Cup. He packed up his family and moved to Detroit. He bought a house. He went all in on a long term life change to come here. He's not going to want to be traded. I think he just wanted to play for a solid team with good management where all the pressure isn't on him. I don't think he's retiring this year, either. He still wants to play but recognizes he's not the number one guy anymore.

I don't think he wants to be a floating mercenary like Jagr and Iginla.

Agreed.  Also, if he wants to re-sign here for another year... I think it's a no-brainer.

It truly amazes me how idiotic some people are acting about the players participating in the Olympics.  First the Pav thing, now this.

 

Hank's back has been injured for a couple years now, its been an ongoing thing.  Anyone who follows the Wings knows this. If he hadn't tweaked it in the Olympic game, he would have tweaked it in the next Wings game.

 

It used to. Not anymore. lol  I just assume a lot of the people making fools of themselves are kids.  

 

Then they start talking about "their" employees and I cringe. lol

 

Anyways...I'll wait to hear official word from Detroit doctors before I make assumptions and conclusions and never will I "write off" this season.

I'm sorry, did Canada make the rules about the standings ? A little over sensitive I believe. Why don't you complain about Germany or some other country that have half the medals but are ranked higher.

 

Jeez, the hate is incredible.

My apologies I thought TSN was the only ones ranking in that way. I didn't realize that was the universal Olympic ranking system. Again, no hate at all.

Bunch of Susans in here.  If Z got hurt in game 1 of the Olympics, you can bet your ass he would have gotten hurt in the next Wings' game.  It's not like it was a specific incident, we are all aware of his back woes.

 

Pavs is another story, but I'm not even going to judge him right now.  He's a grown ass man and can make his own decisions where he wants to play.

 

I know it's a close race, but it sounds like most of you forgot if the playoffs started today, we'd be in.  And I consider our season success so far less than stellar.  The kids are here to stay and we finally have executive buy-in on that.  Expect a push post-Olympics.

You too? Haha... I did work that didn't require me to use my computer and watched the game on a cbc stream

 

I normally get a crowd going in my office, game was too early today though.  Had a few people step in during the Canada/Norway game.  I set it up on a separate monitor on my side desk.  Our content filtering blocked the NBC stream due to video sharing...but I am the sysadmin so the power to get around it lies in my hands.  Heh.

He's probably laughing at the horrific goal the USA women's goalie let in and that her Dwoman scored on her.  The whistle blew right before it went in the net, but regardless that was a bad goal to let in.  This I assume is why Babs is enjoying such a good chuckle.

 

Babs is happy to not be coaching the Wings for the next two weeks.

Swap Kindl and a pick or prospect for a top 4 guy and let Marchenko take Quincey's spot and I'll be happy. Ericsson and Dekeyser both do OK offensively for guys who don't get PP time. Last year Ericsson had as many or more points at even strength than guys who are considered offensive d men.
