Sexist and distinctly un-Canadian-like.  So women's hockey doesn't matter, eh?

He's not implying that, but there really is no competition in Women's Hockey, it comes down to USA and Canada every time. Women's Hockey just doesn't matter as much as the Men's for most Canadians, that's the reality. We will cheer them on, but people don't drop everything like they do for the Men. Not sure if USA feels the same however.

Defensive? hahahah Canadian excuses much??? =)

I mean hell put Sammy on your team. He will have a hell of a shot count but with him having 100 shots on goal (goalie shin pads) mean that the goalie is just playing out of his mind or does it mean Sammy just can't seem to find the back of the net? If this was just some reg NHL team I could see saying that you have just ran into some hot goalies since a reg nhl would be stacked with such firepower....But we are talking about team Canada. More firepower on that team then any team and you can't seem to score more than 2 goals in a game? Hmmm..Babs coaches the wings...wings struggle to score at times....babs coaches team Canada...team Canada struggles to score. I'm not sure for you but it just seems to much of a coincidence.

Yet still 4-0 this tournament. I mean if we really want to get technical, we can talk about how 3 or 4 of the goals yesterday were nothing but luck shot from impossible angles that just happened to go in and terrible goaltending (goalie not even in the crease), which they are not going in for Canada.

agreed, i can't even watch it at work, i had to check the scores on breaks, or i would have been on here... There is nothing to be ashamed of in Canada barely scraping out the win when they outshot Latvia 57-16, that goalie was simply unreal, he could have stopped a golf ball in a soccer net

We were watching it at work. I dropped down our web filter and we were streaming it onto the projector in our training room, and the boss ordered in some pizza, it wasf****** awesome. All the salary people didn't do s*** today but watch the game lol.

Canada absolutely dominated the game. Should of ended up 3-1 but the goal got called back even though the Lativan player pulled the puck outta the net with his hands. So pumped for another chance at the Gold.

Why's Nichushkin scratched? He was better than half of your forwards.

I agree. I don't even know why they have him on the 4th line. He is better then Kulemin, he should be at least playing on the 3rd line.

its a typical response from an entitled Canadian fan...if USA can beat the Czechs, canadas cake walk will end... Not saying we are better than them, but they ain't seen nothing like the US Team. They just don't understand USA Hockey...

We are shaking in our boots.... :w00t2:

Of course what? The Czechs are a much more formidable opponent than Slovenia or Latvia. Any team with several NHL players will be a tough test. Is there really any question about that? I should be the one saying "of course." Of course some Canadian would try and downplay the toughness of team USA's matchup, while their team gets yet another non-NHL caliber team to play (aside from playing Finland).

It's not like I was singling Canada out. I said Sweden and Canada both have very easy matchups, while the Russians and Americans will both have tougher tests. And that's 100% true.

Who cares, go win your games. Sounds like a lot of premature excuses in case of an upset on USA.

#2484830 International Hockey Rivalries.

Posted by darkmanx on 18 February 2014 - 07:37 AM

Sorry but this isn't true. Russia - Canada is THE international rivalry in hockey, it's pure hatred filled with a lot of emotions dating back to many memories even form UDSSR and cold war times. USA - Canada is intense and hatred but Russia - Canada is still on another level.

I also agree, that the rivalry between Finland - Sweden is underrated they can't stand eachother at all and I wouldn't hesitate to compare it with USA - Canada in terms of hatred.

There are really some good rivalries sadly we don't see them as often as we are used to, since the ranking formats in tournaments are getting changed too often.

I disagree with this in recent years, I never said Russia vs Canada isn't the international rivalry. Canada vs Russia in Vancouver wasn't as intense as Canada vs USA. Canada beat Russia 7-3 and the game wasn't that intense besides the first 10 minutes. I have watched that game 100 times, it wasn't close to the games against USA.

I'm disappointed in the lack of this guy in the entire thread.

#2484781 International Hockey Rivalries.

I voted Canada Russia because of the history, but I think USA vs Canada has been the more prominent rivalry since the NHL started taking part in the games.

100% this. USA is better then Russia and have been for awhile. Russia and Canada had some of the best matches on international ice in the past, but recently Canada vs USA is the rivalry.

I don't even think right now as it stands Canada is in the top 3 teams. US,Swe and rus in no particular order. And that's only because those teams seem to be gelling a bet better right now. Not to say Canada wont turn it on because they do have the talent to win it all but don't sell any of the other teams I mentioned short.

And how is it if an American states that team Canada should be playing a lot better when they are not ridiculous? With all the hype team Canada has gotten even before the Olympics started you would of thought that they already won the gold. And you can say that isn't true all you want but it is. And if anyone is taking what some people on the HF boards has stated for fact then I have nothing more to say. HF boards are well known for idiocy and nothing against anyone on here that posts there. But it's either 1 extreme or the other it seems on that site.

Of course HF boards is for idiocy as per your opinion, unfortunately it doesn't change a thing I have read coming from American's.

As for an American stating Canada should be playing better, it really has no merit on how we feel. We haven't lost a game, we have let in the least amount of goals in the tournament (oh but of course the conspiracies of who we played and how the teams were picked) and we are still undefeated, we are happy where we are. If USA beats us or Swiss then yes, we are not happy. Until then just worry about how American's performance should feel, not Canadians performance.

It also doesn't matter to us Canadians what kind of hype the American sports media paints on us in terms of hype, every country has one goal in these games and that is to win Gold. We ice the top players in the world, which Canada is known for producing, this is not a knock on USA because they develop and  ice great players as well.

At the end of the day, it's a win win situation for us because we get to watch the most talented players play against each other. I just hate coming into this thread and seeing an American talk about how bad Canada is doing, and reminding us we had 'easier' competition.

I sure hope Canada scores 3 more goals in this Women's game. We can't possibly beat the US if we only won 3-1 where they won 6-1!  :ninja:

I nominate this for post of the thread. +1

Not this 'Murican.  What defines a country, the posters on HF?  Let me ask you, does Canada want to play USA?

To be frank, I'd rather beat Canada than win gold, BECAUSE they are the toughest competition.  There, I said it.

I take a majority over a couple, sorry but more stats is better then some. Also, I am not discrediting USA, in fact go read some of my previous posts you get a better idea.

Son of a Wing:  I can see your point a bit, but something tells me that if the roles were reversed and Canada scored all those goals and played NHL talent teams as good as the USA did, then the USA struggled with offense and barely beat a Finnish team AND a Norwegian team.  I think Canadian fans would be stating post after post how dominate the Canadian offense was so far in the tourney...

Also, just how funny would you find it if the USA barely beat Norway?  Fact is, Canada was given an easy ride so far and they made it bumpy.  Bring on Friday is what I have to say.  If USA is lucky enough to not get upset and make it there that is.  It seems you guys are already waiting for us there, even though you haven't played the quarter final game yet...do you want the IIHF to just cancel it because it's pointless to play anyway?

It's post like yours that makes me laugh with glee when Canada loses.  No team is entitled to the Gold, not USA, not Russia and in no reality  or alternate reality especially not Canada.  If USA and Canada meet on Friday, your guys better play better than they did the first three games, or it won't even be a game...that is all we are saying.

To put it simply, so far, the USA has played better than expected and Canada has played worse. Simple.  Unless you are saying Canada just coasted through the prelims and now the real s*** comes becomes now it means something...bring it.

Here is a guarantee, if USA beats Canada, the tears and excuses will fall for the next four years, if Canada beats USA the sense of entitlement will grow more than Bill Gates' bank account...

I think back in the 90's a question was asked is there any fans worse than Av's fans....yep.

These kinds of posts are funny because what it tells me is that you didn't watch the game, and only looked at the box score.

Of course USA can CAN beat Canada. Some people on here act as if it is already in the bag, when neither team has even made the semis yet. This isn't women's hockey. Nobody is disagreeing with the fact that USA can beat Canada. But like you said, Canada can beat USA as well. We won't know unless it happens.

I also didn't say it's "just the RR games". All the games are important. But I'm sure any hockey fans know that all the teams will have to take it to another level to continue from here on out. I just have confidence that Canada will bring that out in their next game. By no means does that guarantee they medal. I just think it is silly to look at the round robin games and use that to try and dictate how the rest of the tournament will play out. Hell, in the past teams that didn't get the bye ended up with an advantage because of it. So who knows what will happen. Arguing over the possible outcome is just foolish, which is the only point I've been trying to make.
