They're working on Cleary now.  Dan wants one year at $950k, but Holland is pushing 3x$1.4 mil with a full NMC

Really.....in 2016. Haven't we gotten past Cleary jokes by now.

One mistake. That's the only reason this game is tied right now - the rest of that period belonged to Detroit. Gotta keep it up.

If Stamkos is going to get $10 per year, letting the contracts of KFQ, Richards and Helm come off the books covers that. Howard will get traded as will Smith. $8M more right there. If Stamkos doesn't want to come here, then at least you still have a ton of cash to pursue other options. It's been proven since the deadline that Holland cannot stand pat this off season. All we can hope for this season is that they squeak into the playoffs, but I doubt it.

Holland needs to redefine his team this summer or needs to be fired.

See, I'm torn here. I love the Wings, I've never seen them miss the playoffs and I want the streak to keep going. But what I'm afraid of is if we make the playoffs this year, Holland might get the idea that we don't need to make any chances and keep what he's got. It's just happened too much for me to not expect that. I just wonder if maybe (and I hate that I'm about to say this) if they miss the playoffs, maybe thats a wake up call to Holland.

Nothing that happens this year is likely to change what happens in the off-season.

People seem to think Holland has been deliberately trying to not improve the team. We don't want a wake-up call. That's desperation, and it almost always leads to making things worse. We need to continue to do exactly what we have been doing. Develop our kids, draft well, and try to make smart additions.

Most of what people want to see happen wouldn't actually make us any better. The secondary and lower line players that everyone hates are not our problem. We have an excess of prospects that could make some of those guys expendable, so there's a chance to make a move or two. But any move like that will not, by itself, really change anything. Might be exciting enough to appease some fans who just want to see something happen, at least until the team struggles. Then it will be right back to "Holland's done nothing".

The problem with the team is Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Kronwall and Green, maybe coaching, to lesser extent. But mostly D and Z. Nothing is likely to get substantially better, the team won't be "redefined", until Datsyuk and Zetterberg are no longer the leaders of the team. Considering the $13.6M cap hit they have, it's also unlikely that we'll be able to afford a replacement from outside the system. Almost no team in the league has secondary players making near that much. Dallas, mostly because they have Benn and Seguin very cheap right now. You don't get cheap players through trade or UFA unless it's someone at least mostly unproven.

One thing we have going is that we have a lot of cheap young kids, so if we can shed some salary, we might be able to make a good offer to Stamkos. But he's one player, and he'll have a lot of options if he hits UFA, so it's unreasonable to expect it to happen.

#2660734 Coreau called up

Posted by kliq on 17 March 2016 - 08:13 PM

Well nobody knows what the future brings but I think it's safe to say he'll never be as good as those 2. King Henrik has been the class of his generation for such a long period of time now that's almost unfair to match, even Price will have trouble holding up that standard for so long. Although he obviously has the potential

and yes you can easily quote me on that :)

I dont get why you are so ridiculously low on our young guys Frank, Mrazek has been great this year. You are saying he will never be as good as Lundqvist, yet in his first season as a starter he is putting up better numbers. I'm not saying his is better, but you are really really downplaying his accomplishments this year.

Lundqvist: 31-18-5......2.35 GAA.......92.2 Save %

Mrazek: 26-15-6.......2.21 GAA........92.4 Save %

Not to mention, Mrazek is playing in front of a defense that you consider horrible, while Lundqvist has one of the best defenses in the league in front of him. What does the guy have to do to get your respect?

It's a broken record harping on how terrible the PP is, but one would think things may change? Watching Nyquist force that slap pass to Z summed up the PP for the entire year. Dumb decisions that have almost no chance of working out.

Call up Russo. Then have a lefty AND a righty on each unit, instead of this one man on the point garbage. Dekeyser/Green, Smith/Russo. Then put Kronwall with Green when he is back.

#2657571 Jagr ties Howe

Posted by kliq on 05 March 2016 - 07:53 PM

Saying the word "trolling" every time you dont agree with someone doesn't make you right. Can you do me a favor and just ignore me? Or don't respond to me? Pretend I'm not talking to you, because REALLY, I AM NOT TALKING TO YOU.

Ovechkin is going to have 525 goals at the end of this season and be 31 years old. Jagr is 44 years old and still playing. Chelios was 48 when he stopped playing. Howe, 51. Ovechkin is averaging 50 goals a season the last 3 years, and the ownership of his team has built a strong supporting cast. It is completely reasonable to believe Ovechkin could average 45 goals per year over the next 6 years. That puts him at 800 at age 37. Scoring 200 more goals by the time he retires shouldnt be out of reach. I truly believe you'd have to be VERY pessimistic to not think he could be the first 1000 goal scorer.

Find one other post of mine where I call someone else a troll, there is not a single other person on this board that I have every said that to. On the contrary, I can find many other posts from other posters calling you a troll. Stop trolling, and I will stop calling you a troll.

Ovie has scored 516 goals in 822 games. If he plays 10 more seasons which is another 820 games he would need to score more 486 goals. From age 20-30 his scoring rate has been .62 GPG. For him to hit 486 more goals, he would need to have a rate of .59 GPG for the next 10 years. That is way to small of a drop for someone as they approach their 40's as per every NHL player ever. There is no way he hits 1000 goals.

#2657555 Jagr ties Howe

Posted by kliq on 05 March 2016 - 05:00 PM

I truly do believe Ovi will get 1,000 goals. That's 35 for the next 15 years. To me, it's not a stretch at all to believe he will play til he's 45. And with Jagr scoring 25 goals a season in his 40's, it's also not a stretch to me to think Ovi could average 45 over the next 4 years, 40 the next 4 years, 35, the next 4 years, and 30 the next 4 years. Jagr's a fitness freak though, right? Yah, he's 6'3, 235. You know who else is 6'3", 235? Ovechkin. I actually have a hard time believing Ovi wont blow by Gretzky.

I don't believe you, you're trying to get a reaction. Just like in another thread where you equate Tatar & Glendenning to Toews & Hossa. You are making ridiculous arguments to get people to engage with you but most people dont bite anymore because they all know you are trolling so you keep getting more extreme. When you say things like Toews is better then Datsyuk its somewhat believable, but Ovie getting 1000+ goals, you've jumped the shark.

#2657494 Jagr ties Howe

Posted by kliq on 04 March 2016 - 07:48 PM

Here is the scoring leaders from 1985-86

1. Wayne Gretzky*-EDM 215

2. Mario Lemieux*-PIT 141

3. Paul Coffey*-EDM 138

4. Jari Kurri*-EDM 131

5. Mike Bossy*-NYI 123

6. Peter Stastny*-QUE 122

Say what you want about it being easier to score, the fact of the matter is that Gretzky had 52% more points then the person in second place. Crosby or Ovie or Kane etc. are NEVER going to do that. I get the argument about total points, but there is no argument about how much better he was in comparison to his peers.

You could literally erase every goal he ever scored in his career, and he still would be #1 all time in points as he has more assists then Messier has points who is ranked #2 all time.

Congrats to Jagr! too bad he left the NHL for those 3 years. Would have been nice to see what he could have done. One of the greatest players of all time.

No. He was phenominal. The sport is just different now. If you place a 5'11" 175 lb ultra talented guy with above average skating skill and Godly puck passing skill/ice vision in today's NHL, he's still going to do well. At least until his back breaks.

You know Patrick Kane is 5' 11" and 177 lbs, right?
