#2682654 Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

Posted by NerveDamage on 08 July 2016 - 04:48 PM

Pavel Datsyuk writes open letter to Detroit Red Wing fans

Dear Friends,

I am blessed to have received an offer to continue my hockey career at home with SKA in St. Petersburg. It was a difficult decision to retire from the Red Wings and NHL, but in my heart, I believe it is the best decision for me an my family.

“My decision was not an easy one. Your support of the Detroit Red Wings and of me personally has meant so much to me. I arrived a young man that few had heard of and I am leaving with so many offering their kind wishes, love and respect. I am so thankful. You have provided so much for me and my family and I will be forever graceful to the game of hockey, the NHL, the Detroit Red Wings and most importantly, to you, our fans.

“With the reality that I will no longer be a Red Wing or playing in the NHL, I realize there are a lot of people I would like to personally thank.

“I also want to especially thank Mr. and Mrs. Ilitch and the entire Ilitch family for all their support over the years. They are tremendous owners and I loved playing for them. Similarly, I owe a great deal to Ken Holland for his understanding and support during the last few years in particular, but really throughout my career. Ken and the entire organization have always treated me well and he, together with all of the organization, are a major reason why every player in the league wants to play in Detroit.

“I would also like to thank all of my teammates. We have had many successes, and many times fell short of our goals, but it has been an honor and privilege to play by your side.

“I also want to thank all of my coaches, in particular Mike Babcock for his support, wisdom and guidance over most of my career and Jeff Blashill for taking over and leading us to another playoff year. I am confident that Coach Blashill will have a high level of success and will continue to add to the great history of the Detroit Red Wings.

“Finally and most importantly, to the fans of the Detroit Red Wings throughout Michigan, the United States and Canada (as well as those in Russia and elsewhere). I so appreciated your passionate support over the years and truly enjoyed playing for you. I loved playing in Detroit!

“From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for everything.”

It starts with roster management by Holland, alleviating some of this log jam. Then it's Blashill's job to ice the right players and find line combos that work. I'm not sure I have full confidence in either right now... The coaching staff looks to be much improved, hopefully they can get the special teams figured out...

Emdog was the greatest red wing ever. Or at least he would have been. Holland screwed that one up

lol why are you so mad?

I think his Axe to grind is stemming from the Drew Miller signing and letting Emdog leave. ;)

Horrendous post. Step your game up, seriously. Are you 12 years old? Lots of RW fans defend Holland all the time, cite his rings, etc. Jesus Christ.

I think almost everyone here agrees that Nerve is a phenomenal poster while you... lol let's not get into that. Great thread title btw.

Let's reverse the question. What would it take for a Holland hater to stop hatin'

I was about to just sit back, eat some popcorn and watch you two fire back and forth about Brendan Smith but I guess I want more answers than crossfire.

He (Smith) sure is puzzling. I can't place him where he's at. 28 years, but "plays 25" (my subjective thought). Skilled, but moronic. Aggressive in a nice way but also with a temper. Has the potential upside to be a league top offensive defenseman, but at 28.. Hm.

What I would like to know is what Mike Babcock has to say about Brendan Smith today, in retrospect. That would clear up some conceptions for me I believe.

too bad Bill B is not around he could've answered that

Im talking about what move Kenny would have to make for his supporters to finally turn on him.

is there such thing as a Holland apologist? I mean there are a lot of sky's falling gloomers...but I think most of us are critical of him and few are constructive about it.

If this happened Holland would be in deep crap with the ASPCA first for bagging all of those pugs and secondly for using them as a weapon.... the poor pugs. For the love of God think of the pugs!!!

if he traded away:

larkin

AA

tatar

svechnikov

hicketts

sarijarvi

and then kept errorson/smith for some unknown reason.

yea, then i would jump off the USS red wing , and swim into open waters, cause i could obviously see the iceberg.

Holland isn't going to trade Tatar for nothing, but if he traded him for an upgrade on the back end, I'm sure most would be happy with that move.

If he traded Mantha for Shattenkirk, and Shattenkirk walked after a year and Mantha scored 25-30 goals with the Blues, then I think you'd hear a lot more backlash...

What does trading Tatar have to do with the "Holland apologists"?...

I feel like the Hawks are done till they move Kane or Toews unless they change the style of play they don't have the depth anymore
Atleast until the cap goes up
