#2606979 Kronwall

Posted by DatsyukianDekes on 10 May 2015 - 12:21 PM

Kronner does not have a capable slap shot from the point, therefore he is not elite.

I'm kind of kidding there, but IMO here are d-men who are better than Kronner.

Drew Doughty

Duncan Keith

Alex Pietrangelo

Erik Karlsson

Shea Weber

Ryan Suter

Kris Letang

P.K. Subban

Keith Yandle - No

Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Ryan McDonaugh

Mark Giordano

Brent Burns - No

Dustin Byfuglien - No

John Carlson - No

Roman Josi

Kevin Shattenkirk

Denis Wideman - No

That's 18 I'm comfortable with and then you can add Justin Faulk, Victor Hedman, Dougie Hamilton, Jake Muzzin, Aaron Ekblad, Tyson Barrie, and T.J. Brodie to pass him soon. Admittedly my list is offense-heavy, but our blueline produces zero offense.

Kronner is never going to be what we wanted him to be.

Seriously though, the guy has a pretty weak slap shot.

Did you forget the defense part of the position? The guys I edited are definitely not all around better then Kronwall and there is a still a couple other questionable ones on there as well.

#2606975 Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

Posted by DatsyukianDekes on 10 May 2015 - 11:33 AM

the fact he is looking at other options to me means he is on his way. If you are happy in your job/work you dont go looking for alternative employment. Im not saying he shouldnt do it, it just sends me negative vibes that he'll be here next season. The wings front office have stopped any team from talking to Blashill which also sends the signal to me that they fear Babcock is on his way and they want Blashill as his sucessor. Babcock works with the AHL roster pre-season only so i dont see how that warrants 10 years!?, anyway im not here to argue mute points just expressing my feelings on the situation that has arisen. But if Babcock is still the Redwings head coach come Sept then ill be very surprised.

No it doesn't, not at all. Have you never negotiated a new salary and used comparison between companies before?

If your current employer offers you 3.5 million per year and another offers you 5 million per year. What are you going to do? Just accept the 3.5 million because you are "content" or "happy" where you are working. No, it's like Kickazz said, you explore other options, you go back to your employer and you explain, hey I can get 5 million from another company can you offer me a little more then the 3.5 million? Go from there.

He is the Wings number 1, like it or not.  As I've said in the past, the issue with Kronwall is that he does everything generally well, but doesn't excel at any one aspect of the game to set him apart.  He doesn't have the size, the speed, the strength, the shot.   Another thing that hurts the perception of Kronwall is that other Nik guy.

You know what else hurts Kronwall? Errorson.

Losing babs for say someone other than Blashill could actually bring a whole different change. Coaching style is an important aspect in this league. If we end up with the likes of Tortorella (just an example), that could dramatically change the locker room and on-ice work ethic and discipline.

Our best bet is Blashill because he's been groomed to work in the same system as Babs. I still think Babs is the best option. Except of course the options are his to take not the Wings.

The point is, there will definitely be a change in atmosphere with a new coach. Good or bad, who knows. But a coaching change does have an big impact. Especially in this league.

I agree 100%. My post was directed at us using Blashill 100%, and if Holland goes and signs anyone else my god...

"Has the Detroit diamond finally lost it's shine?"

Not yet. Holland hasn't stopped pumping the tires. The Locker Room interview, he said we were leaking oil.

Is our team af****** car?

This would be the equivalent of Vancouver fans saying in 2002, "We could have beaten the Canes in the Finals".  Same thing with Nashville in 2008.

Teams that win the Cup frequently have scares in the early rounds.  Not saying TB will win the Cup, but you get the point.  I can't see us beating Montreal because we suck against them and against Price.

Sorry to break it to you but what Detroit did in the first round was not some fluke. TB got shut down by the Wings and really should have lost the series if the Wings didn't screw up game 4 with 8 minutes left.

They've done it to Crosby and Malkin, they've done it to Getzlaf, Perry and Ryan, they've done it to Toews and Kane. What players are the common theme here...

#2605962 At What Point Does Holland Deserve Blame?

Posted by DatsyukianDekes on 04 May 2015 - 05:12 PM

Boston fired their gm and there's a very good chance they will fire their coach too. Just making the playoffs isn't good enough for them.

The penguins fired their gm and coach last year for underachieving and let's not forget they have won the cup more recently than us as well as making it past the second round more recently than us.

The Kings just won a cup last year so their situation isn't really comparable. They are allowed a free pass. But I bet if they miss the post season again next year there will be another gm and head coach vacancy.

The point is other franchises don't accept making the playoffs as good enough. We shouldn't either. Over half the teams make the playoffs. Just making it means you're little better than average.

We're 6 years removed now from a deep post season run. Think about where you were 6 years ago and how much has changed since then. It's a long time. And it's an eternity in sports.

Holland had made plenty of great moves yes. But he's also made plenty of bad ones also and he deserves a good amount of the blame for our post season failures since after all it's his job to run the team and everyone ultimately answered to him. Does that mean we fire him now? No. But the seat should start to be heating up at this point. You only get so many free passes.

There is so much wrong in this post, I won't even bother.

I will leave this though. Comparing a team that made the playoffs 24 years in a row, never picking above 15th in a quarter of a century to any other team in the Playoffs is beyond pathetic, they all would trade positions in a heartbeat.

Wings took Tampa to 7 games this year, and should have really won the series. They would have beat Montreal as well. Wings really sucked last year, but we were missing Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Ericsson plus it was the kids first playoffs. The year before that we took out Anaheim in 7 games, then we went on a took Chicago to 7 games OT.

In case you didn't notice, we are still a team that every single team does not want to play in the playoffs when we have all our players. Lastly I will leave this.

24 - Red Wings (Best pick, 15th overall last year)

8 - Pittsburgh (4 top 5 picks in the last 8 years, including 2 1st overalls)

Let that soak in for a while.

I would take a Cup this year if it meant missing the playoffs next year.

Versus making the playoffs both years and losing each time in the first round.

I think anyone would take a cup and miss the playoffs.

I'm just saying, the parity of the league shows you can win a cup one year, then miss the playoffs the next. Or you can finish the season as the "best regular season team" (Bruins) but the next year miss the playoffs. Detroit isn't a dominant Hockey team anymore, and neither are the other 29 teams.

The only constant is Detroit still continues to make the playoffs while all 29 other teams miss them - which in it's own regard is highly impressive.

That was my thought too but, at least early on, he's looking like a potential steal.. Assuming he keeps developing into a solid power forward. The potential is definitely there.

I was just being sarcastic with all the hate Holland has been getting on here :)

He's going to be a beaut. I watched him cause havoc in front of the net when he played with Guelph last year.

How do you define "competitive"?  Winning the Stanley Cup every year?

Holland's Wings are competitive.  They win more than they lose.  They go to the playoffs, EVERY YEAR.  They're just a couple players away from a championship team.

There are 30 teams.  30 GMs.

53% chance of making the playoffs

27% chance of making it to the second round

13% chance of making it to the conference finals

7% chance of making it to the cup finals

3% chance of winning the cup

Under Holland since '97, this is how we've done:

100% - Made Playoffs

64% - made it to second round

31% - made it to conference finals

25% - made it to Stanley Cup finals

19% - won Stanley Cup

It's time for people to chill.  You can't always win, but damn, we sure do win more than we don't.

Some people don't understand parity and what the salary cap does. They can't get over the fact this isn't pre 2005 anymore.

Boston was the president trophy winners last year. Missed the playoffs.

LA Kings won the Stanley Cup last year. Missed the playoffs.

Wow, must really suck to be a Wings fan....

Exactly. No one knew  s***  about Datsyuk in 2002 other than he had great hands. If you had told me after the cup run in 02 that Datsyuk would go on to score almost 100 points in a season and win a bazillion Selkes I wouldn't have believed it.

Hell, Holland nearly traded him for Scott Gomez.

Half the fanbase wanted it as well which is actually hilarious.

Yes first round exists happen, but it's what, 4 out of the last 5 years for us now? That can't be shrugged off by saying "it happens. Someone gets to win and someone gets to lose".

It's very clear that we're lacking some punch to finish teams off in a 7 game series. We can compete, but as of late we've been coming up short, and it's happening far too often for my liking.

You know next year Boston is going to be better, just another team in the east that we'll have to fight with for a playoff spot. Something needs to be done.

Boston is in cap hell and Chara is basically done. I highly doubt they will be any better then they were this year.

We took Tampa to game 7 (half the forum was saying Tampa in 4), and should have really won the series. I don't look at this year as a complete failure like some other have said. Franzen, and Cole could have really helped. Kronwall could have helped the last game as well.

He lost 3 of his top 4 d-men over the course of a year.

I think he deserves some props for keeping us competive through that.

Sadly, I can't wait until we miss the playoffs, half the users here will be gone.

The beginning of this series half the forum was saying Tampa in 4 or 5, we go 7 games and "Holland sucks" "Holland builds soft teams".

Do you see half the forum members trade offers? They are pathetic. They cater only to the Wings needs and doesn't meet any needs for the other teams. It just shows people don't understand how a GM works, or how to gauge trade value / signings.
