If he wins in Toronto he'll be a god, if not he'll at least be paid like one. Plus I'm sure he'll have more power in the organization, then he's got in Detroit.

I get that, however they couldn't win spending like Detroit why will things change now? Players already don't want to go to Toronto, and they weren't lining up to play in Detroit because Babcock was here either.

Money

It's official guys without it being official he's going to toronto for a ton of money and will help them pick a gm and help in trading players etc...

It's happening

Not worried about the leafs

Money and a bad 4-5 years? Toronto isn't going anywhere anytime soon, they are in worse shape then Buffalo.

Well his decision is understandable, insulting offers, an aging team and he doesn't want to be the coach known for ending the streak and given Holland's reluctance to trade prospects and penny pinch ufas Babs job got harder and harder every year. The amount of talent this team is losing not only on but also off ice is simply stunning. Guess it's nice that Holland got his extension for doing nothing since the last scf

What exactly does Toronto have again? Please enlighten us.

The biggest plus about Babs leaving is maybe finally Ericsson can GTFO the top pairing.

#2608651 Report: Oilers hire McLellan

Posted by DatsyukianDekes on 19 May 2015 - 07:29 PM

This is kind of ancient in today's terms of social media but no threads on this ... because we are all in a frenzy about Babwatch.

Anyhow, as you all know by now, Oilers announced hiring of McLellan.  Great choice, classy coach.  Oilers will be a force to be wreckoned with in 2-3 years.  Anyone know the dollars and terms?

P.S. Oilers didn't even request official permission to talk to Babcock.

Yea right after the next 3 1st overall picks.

Wow, good work. Either way, sounds like it'll be a close hard fought series. I'm sure having Bert will help too. Hopefully he stays hot.

Bob McKenzie, on @TSN690, on Babcock staying in DET: "I think all the signs are pointing to that....He's definitely not coming to Toronto."

So now Leaf fans are saying they are the front runners for Blashill....

They wonder why they are hated soo much. All I have heard at work today was Babcock is going to Toronto and if not they are going to take our "Other" coach. Yes, they say "Other" coach.

Toronto Star reports "Babcock is leaning towards re-signing with the Detroit Red Wings on a short-term basis, a source told the Star."

http://www.thestar.c...head-coach.html

Hopefully not true, Toronto Star likes to blow things out of proportion and are usually wrong.

Either Babs for 4-5 years or forget it imo. We shouldn't lose Blashill and Babs.

Really......Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Tatar, and Nyquist are mediocre? Saying things like this just kill your credibility.
You named 4 players, they are obviously not mediocre. The reason I didn't specifically name those players is simply because I didn't think anyone was dense enough to think I'd call those players mediocre. Do I really need to spell out who the good players are, and who sucks? I thought it was common sense as well as common knowledge. Would calling most of the players mediocre instead of calling the team mediocre, make you feel any better? Only having 4 or 5 good players is what makes a team inconsistent, and mediocre. Come on dude, no point in being confrontational for the sake of it.

This mediocre team and players finished with 100 points and were leading the entire NHL after 65 games before the collapse. Let me guess, it was just luck we were in first after 65 games and it had nothing to do with our mediocre players.

This mediocre team also took Tampa to 7 games and really should have won the series, while mediocre Montreal lost in 6 and mediocre Rangers might go 7 games as well, time will tell.

Mediocre is mediocre. Maybe we should suck for the next 3-4 years so we are not mediocre anymore and
get top 10 picks. Hopefully our drafting isn't mediocre now.

You obviously forgot about Canada.

But when Canada loses Canadians say, "It's only the World Championships"

Ok so we won, who cares it's only the World Championships, it doesn't hold the merit the Olympics does because it's not best on best.

6 million people watched Canada win gold in the World Championships. 30 million watched Canada win gold in the Olympics. That's over 90 percent of our population.

As the old expression goes, money /= happiness. Babs will be miserable for at least 3 years in Buffalo, they aren't even close to a playoff team yet.

Does anyone have Mike's email before he makes a decision, I want to send him this article and findings:

I'm ashamed to be Russian... I stopped rooting for this team long time ago...

Hockey in Russia now is like one of the battle fields in war against the West. Hockey players aren't opponents in the game of sport, they are enimeis...

If you can hear current russian coach you'd be amazed, this guy is total psycho, he soaked in Goebbels-like anti-western propaganda and these boys he has been coaching, are clearly under his and more other higher-ups influence. I blame him, I blame legend Tretyak, I blame Slava Fetisov - he become one of these who are now on the other side of common sense...

I know this isn't going to last long and Russian will understand and make it right. I just hope it happen sooner...

Russia has to start changing the philosophy in order to be successful. USA and Canada both went in and played as teams and played a structure system (200 foot game), Russia has too many individuals that see the game one way only. You can't beat teams as individuals.

They need to start developing two way players / dmen more, it's ok to have the superstars like Ovi, Malkin and Tarasenko (when he is allowed to play) but the blueline for Russia is absolutely horrendous. The coaching also needs to change, they switch coaches but it's the same results every time and the bias to have mostly KHL players is ridiculous as well.

I thought this was interesting, specifically this quote from the article:

He must be pretty interested in them if he reached out to them first.

I would wait for a reputable source reports that. Something tells me an article written by someone in San Jose doesn't carry much merit.
