We all have our preferences , just like if we would of chosen 1st overall and we took laine and you liked Matthews ... Everyone's got their own personal favs , doesn't make us professionals
And just because the scouts are "professionals" doesn't mean each pick they make are correct ... Scouting as pretty much a guessing game for the most part
Ya never heard of him , let's hope he's good and can be somewhat offensive
I get that but when I start reading "why draft a tiny defensemen" "what a waste of the pick we got from Arizona" "all 3 draft picks suck"
Meanwhile I'm pretty sure Holland has a clue, more than any of us. Scouts is also not a guessing game, they actually watch the players play, do you watch these kids play and know how to evaluate talent ? Don't think so.
But the thing is that by the time our young players are due for big raises, most of our contracts (except Zetterberg, Abdelkader and Ericsson) will be finished. So as old contracts are up, new ones will begin. Take a look at 2017-18 season for instance, the project money spent is $45 million only. 2018/19 season we'll have $34 million towards contracts.
I think we're in a better position than Chicago is. Our turnover is much more smooth. I think by the time Larkin, Mantha and AA start making big money we'll have plenty of cap space opening up. Chicago is screwed because they threw out big contracts to Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith while guys like Panarin, Shaw are almost immediately eligible to get new contracts. Their turnover sucks.
As far as Stamkos, I think $10 million is the highest I would feel comfortable with. I think $9 million won't be enough in this market. There's no way he'd get paid less than Anze Kopitar (who is less than a 30 goal scorer) but more of a 2 way forward.
I miss capgeek
I don't know where to go to look for the salaries anymore
If Stamkos wants 11+ million are people still ok with that? I know I'm not, he's not the same player he was before his leg injury and won't be a 50 goal scorer again. I look at the Toews and Kane contracts and what that is going to do to that team and want nothing to do with that. Our younger guys will need raises and might become very good players looking for 6-7 million dollar deals which could hinder us signing our young guys in 2-3 years.
Only way I want Stamkos is if he is willing to sign at 9 million. We need defense more then anything right now, year after year it's the same issue.
