#2565786 Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Posted by DatsyukianDekes on 24 January 2015 - 11:30 AM

frank, "Holland's job is to defend the trade as much as possible"? No, Holland's job is to make this team as competitive as he possibly can, every single year... That involves making trades to improve the team in the now, without mortgaging the future, keeping in mind the team 5 years from now. I'll admit, I was a little shocked by what we had to give up to get Legwand here for a few months, and I was a little disappointed at the time. However, if anyone thinks, that trade mortgaged the future, or even set us back, are not looking at things clearly. Jarnkrok is a pretty decent young player, and I think he still has the potential to be a 40-50 point guy in this league. But that's the type of production that can be replaced any year by a FREE agent... which in my opinion has already been done this past summer, with the signing of Tomas Nosek.

People really need to get over this minuscule botch on Holland's resume, it was one minor bad, not awful trade... Also, just because it doesn't matter to you, believe it or not, the streak is important to a lot of fans, and the entire organization, Holland did a great job in keeping that intact.

Bingo. People seem to forget the most important thing to an organization is making the playoffs and getting a ton of extra revenue, not necessarily to please the fans by not trading Jarnkrok to miss the playoffs. It isn't all about us fans sometimes, in fact I have no issue with the move then, and still don't. Anderson was our #1 center due to all the injuries, we would have bombed the rest of the season if not for this move.

People need to get over it and realize we are spoiled, imagine having the Leafs for a team or Buffalo, would you even watch half the games? We should be thankful Holland is running this team and making such moves instead of falling in the standings (which I'm certain a portion of the fanbase would stop following the Wings).

leave it to LGW to include the classic whooping boy on a goal that he had nothing to do with

I agree. No way Mrazek is to be blamed on that play. Would have been a great stop if he had made the save but man that's a terrible giveaway and such a fast play your not expecting.

Babcock musta yelled A LOT between periods lol

Doubt it. Good ole Danny boy came down from the press box and voiced his opinion, his leadership is strong.

The coach of the Pens for that streak? Everybody's favorite announcer, Ed Olczyk.

Looks like they didn't use enough "Subtle Inference" otherwise they might have won more games.

Ok so why are they singing the Canadian national anthem?  Last time I knew Buffalo and Detroit were in the U.S.

Very weird. Trying to figure that out too.

Edit: If anything, do the Czech anthem!

#2561999 Lines Thread

I thought Weiss was terrible in Calgary, but obviously he's never going to fulfill his potential stuck playing on a 4th line with Glendening and Andersson. Even just flipping Weiss and Miller seems like common sense, though with Babs it's often hard to pinpoint logic when it comes to playing time and managing his personnel.

It just seems like Babs makes certain players go through so many hoops to earn anything, while others get immunity or endless opportunities in a role before being demoted. Weiss can't get any traction, even though he was putting up points when he first returned.

Weiss was our best player in the Edmonton game, he was one of our worst in the Calgary game. I think the back to backs caught up to him, which is why he played poorly in Calgary, but they have had a couple days off their is no reason for him to be playing on the 4th line. Give him like 5-6 games playing with Datsyuk and see what happens, you can't just randomly decide he's not good enough considering he dominated the Edmonton game.

I know it sucks to say it, but Babcock leaving might help this team more then we think. I cannot stand his decisions the last couple years.

Oh yea, Miller has 1 goal 6 points +/- 0 in 41 games. Weiss has 5 goals, 12 points, and is a +/- -1 in 18 games.

Good job Babcock. We are really generating a lot of offense these days.

He had the option to become a ufa about 6-7 months agao, but the 64m they dangled in front of him was too good to turn down i guess ? No other team would have offered him 8 x8m / yr deal.. for just being mediocre, 30 goals a year, getting to do and play whatever he wants.. only in Toronto do they pay that high for mediocrity and accept such mediocrity

Your wrong. If he hit FA he would have signed 8x8 if not higher then that.

Kane got 10.8 million, he's not that different then Kessel.

No to Kessel ... it's obvious, crap is coming out that he is a lazy arse cancer ...

Yea a guy that scores PPG, and scores 35+ goals a year is lazy. Did you forget he plays in the NHL?

Easy to post he's lazy when you have no idea how hard it is to compete in the NHL.

He's not trash, giving up on the play was trash.  My issue is not with the mistake, it's with him giving up on the play.  I'm not looking for the Wings to do anything in regards to trading him (I don't think I stated that....), but it's irritating hearing people state "he wants that one back".  It wasn't the run of the mill bad goal that was let in, he gave up on the play, that's the point.  Should he be benched/passed on his next scheduled start?...yeah, maybe.  Maybe a lesson like that would help him get better prepared for games, and send a message about quitting on a play.  You can't let giving up slide.  Mistakes, yes; giving up...no. This is the freakin NHL!!  Btw...if you question that he gave up on the play, you need to watch the play again.  He had no intention of fighting back to the crease to attempt to get the stick down to prevent wrap-around.  You got me thinking about a hypothetical question though...I wonder what Scotty would have done to a goalie that gave up on a play??  Interesting thought.

Not looking to battle, we won.  That's the important thing.

You would set a record for a coach that lost the locker room the quickest ever if that's how you think to handle things. Scotty was old school, this is a new generation of players, they don't handle that well anymore.

I bet your an all star at your job, you can't do anything wrong.

I'm not giving Mrazek a pass on the first goal.  I've watched the replay a few times last night, then again this morning...he gave up on the play.  Once he realized Raymond had so much speed and was not being covered behind the net, he gave up.  In most instances, on the second half of a back-to-back road game, those early mistakes will kill you.  I heard Osgood and others say "he wanted that one back", which is short for that was horrible goal tending.  It's an easy way to give a goalie a pass, especially after we secure a win.

Fortunately, he recovered and played very well the rest of the game and so did the Wings, and we won.  So all is good with the outcome.

But that first goal should not be given a pass.  Horrible.  Giving up on the play is even worse.  That wasn't even AHL caliber...that was beer league.

Hey, if that happened when Osgood or anyone else was the back-up during one of our Stanley Cup/President Trophy winning years...we'd have a LOT to say.  So let's not be complacent now.  We want the best team in the league and win a Stanley Cup, then we need to pay attention to every detail and things like this and not let them pass without accountability.

What do you want the Wings to do? Pull him after he lets in a stinker? Howard has let in plenty of goals when he wasn't in the crease (Canucks game for example) should be trade and not put up with him either? This is the highest level of Hockey, they are human mistakes will be made all over the ice not just in net.

If Mrazek did this every game, different story.

#2561031 Randy Carlyle relieved of his duties by Leafs

I will start off by saying I absolutely hate the Leafs, but the media in Toronto is absolutely a disgrace. Two coaches have been fired, mind you Wilson was not that good but when does the organization look at the culture and makeup of the team? I mean signing Phaneuf last year to that contract has destroyed that franchise right now. 7 million / 8 years for him is not good. Gardiner looks terrible, they should have sold high on him. Kadri is a decent 2nd line center, but not a top end talent / shutdown guy, and he disappears alot. Lupul never plays, he's always injured. They have Clarkson at 5.5 million doing nothing.

Phil Kessel is absolutely blamed for everything that goes wrong by the fans and media, yet he is paid to score goals and that's exactly what he does. Kessel is a PPG player, sure might not be the best defensively but that's where others need to pickup and help him. JVR is not good defensively, and isn't close to as good on offense as Kessel but he never hears anything. Kessel is always being called "out of shape" or "doesn't compete enough" but people forget, he is a PPG player, and he plays in thef****** NHL! How can you not compete enough and be out of shape when you score 35+ goals a year, and score at a PPG every year in the NHL! Would love to see him play with Hank or Datsyuk, he might push 45+ and he's an underrated passer.

This video is absolutely ridiculous. What a dumb question, and an insult.
