UFA? sure, when was the last time we signed a big name UFA that worked out? Hossa..... Trades? Again when was the last time we traded for a 25+ goal scorer?
Now bottom 10 team, that is what 10 fewer points per year? Not that far away.
And 10 more points and we're first in the division.. Ahhh parity
But I'm not saying it's a foregone conclusion that we'll sign a big name UFA and/or make a splashy trade.. And it's unlikely, yes.. But just that there are other factors at play. And those were just a couple examples.
Obviously it's bad if any of your first round picks are busts, but my point was just that it wouldn't necessarily kill us to miss on one of three.
Missing with any would be less than ideal for sure but it's not make it or break it.. There are a lot of other factors (free agent signings, trades, mrazeks development to name a few) and even if 2 of the 3 became stars, I think we'll be ok.
Sean Day sounds like someone I'd be really happy for us to draft. I was thinking that even before the story (thanks for that btw). After reading that story.. It'd be really cool if we could get him and Max Jones together. They sound like they'd help each other continue to develop too.
There's zero % chance trouba will ever be made available for an expansion draft ... They'd rather put Myers and enstrom before putting trouba up
Agreed. I read today that the NHL and NHLPA agreed on an expansion draft format and what to do about NTC/NMC but they didn't state what the agreement was..
But I remember something about the nhlpa wanting one or both of the clauses protected and in which case the jets may have too many to protect Trouba or something along those lines
Regardless, they're likely to trade someone this summer so they can get picks/prospects in return that they don't have to protect.
If I'm a GM of a team that won't be a cup contender next year, I'm deciding now who to protect in the expansion draft and trading anyone outside of that of any value on draft day to stock the farm and land more picks. I would definitely not leave good players exposed and to lose for nothing.
Yeah a looming expansion draft should do wonders for trades and speculation. I'm pretty excited to see how free agency/the draft unfolds across the league this year and next
Although I agree the name is lame, and wish it was something more directly connected to Wings hockey, everybody in Toledo was up in arms when they named the new Mud Hens park, "Fifth Third Field." Then the new hockey arena was named the, "Huntington Center." Now people don't even think twice about. This will probably pass as well. Maybe.
Oh I'm sure it'll pass too.. But seeing as how the Internet exists, not before an unhealthy amount of trolling
