#2608523 Free agents this off season

Posted by amato on 19 May 2015 - 11:01 AM

Looks like Ward could be heading to free agency based on MacLellan's comments....

Alex Prewitt @alex_prewitt

MacLellan said a 1RW is "on the shopping list" and "is a priority...you'd like to have more stability there."

The few games I watched, I though Ward looked great on the top line with those two guys.

The caps do have a decent amount of cap space but a lot of free agents to sign.. so it doesn't look like they'll keep him.

And with Franzen and Cole both likely done, Ward could be a good signing.

#2608497 Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

I agree with the no short term deal BS.. just seems like he's waiting for a Montreal or Pittsburgh or something to open up at this point. I'm not saying blashill is the answer for sure (though he very well could be) but this year is probably the best head coaching free agency we'll see. And every team wants long term stability.. The Toronto media probably just printed that so that even though they lost out on Babcock, they can guess the most obvious of his choices "first" & feel good about themselves at least a little bit :P

The Griffins are waiting to see who they'll face in the Western Conference Finals between Utica Comets and Oklahoma City Barons. Utica is up 3-2 in the series with game 6 tonight and game 7 (if Oklahoma win) on Wednesday night. The schedule for the Eastern Conference Finals between Manchester Monarchs and Hartford Wolf Pack has already been released. The ECF starts May 21st, with the first two games in Manchester on Thursday night and Saturday night, so my bet would be that the WCF would start on May 22nd, with the first two games in Grand Rapids on Friday night and Sunday afternoon...

Thanks. I hope you're right.. A Sunday afternoon game would fit into my plans perfectly :)

Been saying the blues or us since the beginning. That'd be huge for st louis.. too bad we can't trade babs to them for a defenceman :ninja:

babs toured buffalo's facilities on sunday evening...

According to the Buffalo News, Pegula was part of Babcock’s tour, along with Sabres GM Tim Murray; the News also reported that the Sabres issued a “no comment” about its coaching search, and would continue to do so until the new bench boss was hired.

Babcock and Murray are familiar with one another, having worked together in Anaheim from 2002-04. Babcock led the upstart Ducks to the 2003 Stanley Cup Final, eventually losing in Game 7 to New Jersey.

#2607123 2015 Draft

Posted by amato on 11 May 2015 - 07:45 AM

Count me in on the Meloche band wagon. I've heard very little about draft prospects but he sounds like he has potential to be a solid defenseman.. unless someone better happens to drop to us. But really, seeing that it's a deep draft class, I fully expect Holland to trade down.. so hopefully Meloche drops a little too..?

Ken Holland not granting NHL teams permission to talk to Jeff Blashill. Definite candidate for Red Wings if Babcock leaves.

Not necessarily a lock but, you gotta think blashill would be the favorite..

Maybe that girl is cute, has a nice smile, shares the same interest as he does, gets him a beer & rubs his back after some lovin?
Nuthin is worse than finding out the new girl isn't in the same league as the old.

From my understanding - it's the 3rd round pick for 3 seasons (3 picks in all).

I believe it's one third round pick in any of the next three drafts.. the team signing babs would get to choose.

Wings GM Ken Holland says compensation draft pick for Mike Babcock would be at other team's choice - one time within frame of next 3 years.

Bertuzzi seems like he came out of nowhere.  I remember when the Wings drafted him most folks on LGW looked at it as a throw-away pick, or a favor to Todd Bertuzzi or something along those lines.  Ever since he was drafted, though, the kid has been exceeding everyone's expectations (except perhaps the Wings' organization, who may have knows the potential this kid had the whole time (?)).
Now he is on my list of most anticipated players to see in a Wings' uniform, along with Athanasiou, Larkin, and Mantha.

Maybe little Bert purposely underperformed just enough to go a few rounds into the draft so the wings would get him.. and uncle Todd just let the wings know of the master plan. Then he started playing toward his potential after being drafted :ninja:

JVR is one player I've wanted to have for a while now. I just don't see Holland giving up the necessary players to get him though.

He's only 26 too and could easily be a part of their rebuild unless he requests a trade out of that gong show. But I haven't heard anything even hinting at him being unhappy there unfortunately.

#2606666 Franzen on IR

For Franzen's case, he would still get paid, right, if he went on LTIR.

Yes, he would still get paid his salary.

#2606523 Franzen on IR

“I feel a lot better. I was in a really dark place maybe not the first month because you think it’s going to get better. But then when it doesn’t get better, you start wondering.”

“Certainly the message the last month was he wanted to play,” said Red Wings’ GM Ken Holland. “He told us a couple weeks ago he felt great and was on the right path. If we advanced in the playoffs he was hoping he’d be available. Then he had a bit of a setback.

“People with concussions it’s hard to know, but the hope is over the summer he gets 100 percent healthy.”

As for his future in the game, both Franzen and Holland are unsure if the Wings’ forward will play again.

“I don’t think anybody knows,” Holland said. “When you’re dealing with people that have concussions and he’s (had) a bit of a history. That’s a decision that’ll be determined between Mule and Dr. (Jeffrey) Kutcher.”

Added Franzen: “I have no clue, but I’m just happy I’m feeling better. Hopefully, it’s going to progress a little bit every week and I will be fine.”

Poor guy, glad to hear he's doing better.

The article also mentions that he'll likely stay on LTIR if he decides to stop playing.

As mentioned before, I hope he hangs them up just for his long term health and his children's sake
