I think that a lot of the success attributed to Howard AND Mrazek really belongs to Babcock's shot suppression system. I'm not saying that either guy wouldn't be good otherwise, but it's pretty clear that they didn't get challenged nearly as much as most goalies do. I think I'd wait to see how things pan out under Blashill before I start penciling in starting goalies. Might be that Howard stink worse than we thought, and Petr easily takes the job. Then again, maybe Mrazek falters under more shots every single night and the veteran is our saving grace. Who knows?
I feel like I remember Mrazek playing best when he got peppered with shots...? I could be remembering that wrong but he seemed to steal a couple games here and there.
At any rate, I'm excited to see what blashills effect on every part of the team is. should be an exciting season
Too early to say anything about Svechnikov, though I do feel good about his future. Mantha has all the tools to be a top sniper - but the golden boys of the NHL are your 1Cs, 1Ds, and 1Gs. I believe Larkin will be a 1C, or, at the very least, a damn good 2C. This is a franchise player. This is Zetterberg's successor.
In Larkin, we basically drafted a top-five talent at 15th overall. He's the kind of kid a team tanks an entire season for.
Summary, they are close to 2-years contract, because he has some medical problems, and in case of possible injury during a season, he would like to have more opportunity to convince redwings, that he is a right player for red wings.
He also mentioned, that he welcome Blashill as a coach, because he (blash) knows him, and he will not probably try to make him a 4th line player
This. Jurco last year was basically the definition of misuse.. would love to see a jurco-sheahan-pulks third line.
I wouldn't trade pulk for buff (and you can count me as cautiously optimistic re: pulk) simply because we likely wouldn't be able to re-$ign him with the amount of raises players will command in the next couple off seasons.. granted Quincey comes off the books next year and of course Richards, so it's certainly possible but we'd have to make sure any player signed long term is a great fit. Getting rid of pulk isn't worth that kind of a one season or less gamble, imo. You just don't deal his kind of potential for a possible rental.
There's no doubt he will be with the big club. He would have to clear waivers to get sent down, and he would definitely get claimed. I'm expecting him to be a fixture on the 3rd line and 2nd power-play unit under Blashill.
I hope he plays regularly and succeeds is more of what I meant by "stick".. my bad ha. But yeah, I agree with your assessment.
