Babcock's Wife: "I want you to have more time off."

Babcock: "OK, Toronto it is."

Hahaha well at least Twitter will be entertaining :P

Agreed it'll probly be year three's pick because whoever signs babs will likely improve by then, giving up a lesser pick

Don't know if this has been posted : Red Wings upped their ante to 5 years 20 million according to http://www.tsn.ca.

Who told me Babs wasn't coming to Toronto again? :) Things are looking up and I can't wait for the draft and to get this new season started with the best coach in the NHL. Very exciting times to be a fan of the team! GLG!

Maple leaf fans are amusing   :hysterical:

Wait, what? Toronto media stirring the pot?  If Babcock choose any team outside of Toronto, I cannot wait to hear the BOOS from the "fans" in that city first time Babs is back in that building!

I can see it now....

-babs goes to buffalo

-toronto fans try to claim they'll outbid detroit for blashill

-blashill signs in detroit

-toronto is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs :P

#2608523 Free agents this off season

Posted by amato on 19 May 2015 - 11:01 AM

Looks like Ward could be heading to free agency based on MacLellan's comments....

Alex Prewitt @alex_prewitt

MacLellan said a 1RW is "on the shopping list" and "is a priority...you'd like to have more stability there."

The few games I watched, I though Ward looked great on the top line with those two guys.

The caps do have a decent amount of cap space but a lot of free agents to sign.. so it doesn't look like they'll keep him.

And with Franzen and Cole both likely done, Ward could be a good signing.

I agree with the no short term deal BS.. just seems like he's waiting for a Montreal or Pittsburgh or something to open up at this point. I'm not saying blashill is the answer for sure (though he very well could be) but this year is probably the best head coaching free agency we'll see. And every team wants long term stability.. The Toronto media probably just printed that so that even though they lost out on Babcock, they can guess the most obvious of his choices "first" & feel good about themselves at least a little bit :P

#2608292 All Purpose Grand Rapids Griffins Thread

Posted by amato on 18 May 2015 - 09:44 AM

The Griffins are waiting to see who they'll face in the Western Conference Finals between Utica Comets and Oklahoma City Barons. Utica is up 3-2 in the series with game 6 tonight and game 7 (if Oklahoma win) on Wednesday night. The schedule for the Eastern Conference Finals between Manchester Monarchs and Hartford Wolf Pack has already been released. The ECF starts May 21st, with the first two games in Manchester on Thursday night and Saturday night, so my bet would be that the WCF would start on May 22nd, with the first two games in Grand Rapids on Friday night and Sunday afternoon...

Thanks. I hope you're right.. A Sunday afternoon game would fit into my plans perfectly :)

Been saying the blues or us since the beginning. That'd be huge for st louis.. too bad we can't trade babs to them for a defenceman :ninja:

#2607157 WCF : (3) Chicago Blackhawks vs. (1) Anaheim Ducks

Posted by amato on 11 May 2015 - 11:09 AM

I just hope whoever wins this, loses next round. that pretty much sums up my thoughts on this series.

although please God, no habs-hawks cup final!! (knocks on allllllll the wood)

babs toured buffalo's facilities on sunday evening...

According to the Buffalo News, Pegula was part of Babcock’s tour, along with Sabres GM Tim Murray; the News also reported that the Sabres issued a “no comment” about its coaching search, and would continue to do so until the new bench boss was hired.

Babcock and Murray are familiar with one another, having worked together in Anaheim from 2002-04. Babcock led the upstart Ducks to the 2003 Stanley Cup Final, eventually losing in Game 7 to New Jersey.

#2607123 2015 Draft

Posted by amato on 11 May 2015 - 07:45 AM

Count me in on the Meloche band wagon. I've heard very little about draft prospects but he sounds like he has potential to be a solid defenseman.. unless someone better happens to drop to us. But really, seeing that it's a deep draft class, I fully expect Holland to trade down.. so hopefully Meloche drops a little too..?

Ken Holland not granting NHL teams permission to talk to Jeff Blashill. Definite candidate for Red Wings if Babcock leaves.
12:17 PM - 8 May 2015

Not necessarily a lock but, you gotta think blashill would be the favorite..
