If they want to buy out Weiss they might as well wait until next year anyway.. maybe he bounces back but even if he doesn't, the cap hit from the buy out will be less in both term and dollars. We can afford keep him on the books this season and add a contract if we so choose.
Unless it's a Mantha for Draisaitil deal or one for a player on same level as him then i say keep Mantha. I hope they don't just trade him for anyone just cause he's having a rough transition in the ahl. I have a feeling this summer Mantha will train and work his tail off to show that he is the elite scoring winger he was brought to Detroit to be. Holland hasn't been on a " Lucky Streak " the past couple a seasons. Two years in a row bad trades for aging rent a players that contributed jack. Hopefully can turn that around here at the draft and the up coming free agency period .
I don't think we have that to worry about.. if there's one thing the wings organization is good at, it's patience with development.
9 points in 107 career games. He does one thing well, punch. Those guys are useless in the modern NHL. He's so valuable he didn't play a single minute in the playoffs and only averaged 5:52 a game in the 49 games he did play int he regular season. So valuable he was a frequent healthy scratch.
Doesn't exactly scream "best fourth liner." But hey, fights are exciting.
Mantha will be great. Can't wait to see what he can do with a full season. I think breaking his leg set him back a lot more than he thought it would and I imagine that was frustrating for him.
That trade Mantha thread, other than media over hyping him being available "for the right deal" or whatever, is more about the potential return a top prospect could net than it is about writing off Mantha. Every player is available "for the right deal."
