#2332636 [Retired] Official Lockout Thread

In the end, the fans lose.

Which is why I say the NHL and NHLPA can go jump off a cliff.

Agreed. Like has been pointed out in this thread a few time before though, its like the two sides in power in politics. Neither cares about the people whatsoever. Thats not the point. Its a power/money game.

Thats the thing. Sorry to say but there is not just 1 devil in this fight.

But the devil was already in this fight. And he is a hateful, mean, vindictive devil who hates the players with a passion and would never negotiate in good faith no matter what the circumstances.

So the players had no choice but to bring in a "devil" of their own to help even up the fight, lest their souls be devoured and they lose everything to the original devil, dark lord Bettman.

This and the proposals that each side has tabled that are touted as "50/50" are not 50/50 right out of the gate. Which is why there is fault on both sides.

How would you suggest they go about getting to 50/50 right out of the gate AND honoring of all current contracts at the same time? (which you say you are in favor of)

#2332409 Ken, Micky and FSD set to air Griffins game Friday

I know myself and several of my friends have emailed FSD letting them know how disappointed we were that they weren't airing any Griffins games. So you guys can thank us for this. ;)

#2331811 Jordin Tootoo & Polar Bears

Posted by sleepwalker on 16 October 2012 - 06:00 PM

So to sum up...

This never had anything to do with the polar bears. The OP was just using that as a jumping off point to rant about his dislike of Tootoo and the contract the Wings signed him to. Sound about right?

#2331263 Our friend @HockeyyInsiderr lists anti-lockout teams...

Posted by sleepwalker on 11 October 2012 - 12:47 AM

Surprised to see Philly on that list. I would have thought Mr. Snider is right up there as one of the hard nosers.

"hockeyyinsiderr" is a teenage kid and all of his posts are completely fabricated by him. He has no inside info.

I could say the same thing for people who are in 100% support of either side. There is plenty of blame to go around here.

I doubt there is many people that think one side is 100% to blame.

As an aside, I think one of the main things you can blame on the players in this lockout was having some sort of idealistic delusions of how negotiating goes, especially with the NHL. When the owners came to the table with the ridiculous and insulting lowball opening offer, what the players should have done, and what pretty much anyone else would have done, is come back with an equally insulting high ball openeing offer, like an 80/20 split, no cap, no contract lengths. Only then can you come to a meaningful compromise and meet in the middle.

Let's keep the discussion here about the negotiations without making it personal. Otherwise there will be edits/deletions/suspensions.

It certainly says something that the people here that are supporting the owners in this for the most part can't seem to put together a valid argument, so they just toss around insults and personal attacks instead to try to obfuscate the fact that the side they are arguing for really doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Willingness to compromise changes when most of the parties involved are missing out on paychecks. It's not just a matter of talking about it until you reach an agreement.

True, but thats not the case here.

The players are the only ones that will be missing paychecks. The owners are billionaires whose main income sources come from elsewhere. Some owners will actually be saving money from the lockout. The owners will keep the players locked out until the players cave. And unfortunately without their main, or in most cases, only source of income, the players will do just that, cave.

Then speak your mind on both sides instead of just chirping the typical "ownership's fault" that you are so adept at mentioning. You seem to be speaking option #2 quite adeptly.

EDIT: For the record, I believe its 60-40 at fault with the NHL being moreso than the league.

Perhaps you should also do the same as you suggest. From all your comments here I would never in a million years have guessed you think the league is 60% to blame. From all of your comments, I would have guess you thought it was about 80-90% the players fault.

Screw the league, and screw the players. Go ahead and strike.

We know you are pro NHL/GMs and anti-NHLPA, but it has been pointed out to you multiple times already that this is a LOCKOUT, and yet you keep saying strike regardless. The players aren't striking, the owners are locking them out. Last CBA, was also a lockout. The one before that? Yep, also a lockout.

I'd just like to point out that there is a big difference between leaving your feet to jump into a player, and leaving your feet slightly AFTER impact due to the momentum.

#2318685 Are Russian players "really" lazy

Posted by sleepwalker on 12 July 2012 - 02:44 PM

Which is funny you say that because back when Russians played as "Soviets", they were known for having superior chemistry and obsessive preparation stereotypical of a communist environment. There are stories about the KLM Line where they were placed together at a young age, always roomed together, and were inseparable.

This is an interesting point. The fall of the Soviet Union could have played a major part in the shift, if there indeed was a shift, in attitude.

Under Soviet rule the mentality was strict and of do whats best for the team/country/organization, teamwork achieves the utimate goal. The fall of the Soviet Union was a very interesting event as the country shifted from a strict regimented communist country, to a wild-west true-capitalist gangland utopia in a very quick fashion. And the mentality thus shifted from "teamwork" to "self/money, etc."

#2318568 Holland Content with Current Roster

Posted by sleepwalker on 12 July 2012 - 10:35 AM

Seriously.... I even posted the quote. How is it that you are the ONLY one reading it that way then?

He is not. I read it the same way, because, well, thats exactly what it said. That Quincy and Smith will "replace" (the exact word he used) Stuart and Lidstrom.

Oh, and I am not some doom and gloom negative person about this off season, I've been staying positive and hoping for the best, so you cannot attempt to refute MY comment by passive attacks and accusing me of only being negative like you did with him. ;)

Lets give it a rest with the Holland bashing ...

You know what I'd like to see people give a rest? (in general, not just here at this forum) Calling anyone with a different opinion or alternate suggestion a "hater" or "basher"

Those are such lame, overused internet terms. Don't agree with me? Oh, you're a hater then. Post any other comments or alternate suggestion? Quit bashing.

#2318270 Reminder: Personal attacks, trolling will not be tolerated

Posted by sleepwalker on 11 July 2012 - 01:31 PM

The one person we're all tiptoeing around naming here is pretty clearly only around to troll. The only type of posts he makes are derogitory towards the Wings, Holland and posters here at LGW. That's what really gets my goat.

I'm proud of how many great fans from other teams we have on LGW. Just off the top of my head I can think of posters from the Sharks and Preds community who've come here and made very intelligent, constructive posts while dodging the odd attack here or there based on their obvious love of another team. MacAttack used to post regularly from the position of a win-deprived Leafs fan who respects the Wings. For each of our playoff opponents in recent years I'd say we've had good cross-forum posters who I hope will come back for future games day threads.

My point is that those of us who are tired of CentCougar aren't taking that position simply because he's a Wild fan.

Yeah, since you already named him, the fact that their has been so much static here and this thread is even necessary has tons to do with that centcougar kid. Myself and others have made posts letting people know that he is just a hockey forum troll, and does this same trolling on various other teams forums for fun too and to just ignore him, but I know that is easier said than done, and obviously some people couldn't ignore his incessant trolling, which let us here to this thread...
