#2509861 Gus & Tatar almost traded to Calgary per McKenzie

Posted by rrasco on 15 April 2014 - 05:30 PM

I've been saying forever that Nyquist was off the table for me.  If we let some people around here make trades he'd have been gone for less than JB.  Hindsight is 20/20 eh?

Yeah, I got a pretty big chuckle out of that as well.  Still love Backes though.

I can only like Backes every 4 years.

I like it.  To be the best you have to beat the best.  If this team can get past the big bad Bruins, they just might become unstoppable.

As always, I'm sticking to $10 per Kronwalling.

I will also add $1 per goal for our youngsters, including:

-Glendending (MULTIPLIER x2)

And just in case these guys get in some games:

Wish we actually had Z...  :/  I would have used Dats but Z is more like a bear.

Since Philly won today, if Columbus wins, Detroit is locked into the #2 WC.

If Columbus loses in regulation, Detroit will require at least 1 point tomorrow for the #1 WC spot.

If Columbus loses in OT or SO, Detroit will require 2 points tomorrow for the #1 WC spot.

#2508487 Jack Adams award discussion and speculation

Posted by rrasco on 10 April 2014 - 02:53 PM

I don't know why Babcock deserves it, if it wasn't for the injuries I doubt we'd be in the playoffs.  We'd have underachieving Cleary, Weiss, Sammy and Bert running the second and 3rd lines.  Nyqvist, Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco would be buried deep in the abyss somewhere, and these guys have been the spark to get us to the playoffs.

I think Holland and Babs were idiots for dumping Nyqvist and Tatar after everything they put up last year.

So no, the award shouldn't be based on luck.

I think Roy is 100% deserving of this, he did an incredible bang up job this year.

What has Roy done Babcock has not?  They both coached teams.  One loaded with talent, the other less-talented and experienced.  This isn't about choosing who is on the roster, but coaching those players to success.  Not to take away from Roy, but he didn't quite have the challenge Babs did.

It would also be a disservice to Babs to not win the Jack Adams in a year he surpassed the man the award was named for in wins.

I don't know, but for some reason, even after all the beer I drank last night, I feel guuuud.

I'm not even going to pick my poison.  We're in and that's all that matters.  Hope the boys are ready to make some noise.

#2507216 What has Bryz done again ?

Posted by rrasco on 08 April 2014 - 03:17 PM

He was probably my favorite player to watch on HBO's 24/7 a few years back lol. Quite peculiar, he is. Anyone remember some of his classic quotes¿

If you type Ilya Bryzgalov into Google a suggested search actually appends 'quotes' onto the keywords.

#2507000 How about some love for Howard!

Posted by rrasco on 07 April 2014 - 02:55 PM

I understand he probably wanted to focus on his main duties while getting to the NHL, but once you're there that doesn't mean you can stop trying to improve. I'll ask these again since I haven't gotten a response:

Would it be OK if Tatar quit working on his defensive game right now?

Would it be OK if Smith keeps making bonehead plays, or should he be expected to work on his game and improve?

Would it have been OK if Ericsson kept blasting 50% of his slapshots directly into the defenders shin pads, resulting is breakaways and odd man rushes the other way?

You haven't gotten a response because they are ludicrous questions.  Of course nobody is going to say anyone on any team should stop working on weaknesses in their game.  What credible evidence do you have that Jimmy hasn't worked on his puck handling?  Just because you don't see a noticeable improvement does not mean he has not worked on it.  Maybe he hasn't, I don't know, but I'm not sure you are basing your statement off anything other than your opinoin.

WOOOO!  Have fun tonight and get ready for tomorrow.  We're coming right back with another one, I feel it....

Gus said it himself, they are going to do whatever they have to get into these playoffs.  Mark it.

#2505728 How about some love for Howard!

To be fair, I was mainly replying to the "Howard Haters" part of your first comment.  I'm really not trying to argue you have an unfounded evaluation of Howard, because I agree with most of your points and it certainly is okay to critique players fairly.  Sure he has weaknesses in his game, everyone does.  What gets tiring are the "Franzen is lazy and he sucks" type statements.  Many people apply that same logic to Howard while ignoring the weaknesses of our entire team that affect aspects of Howard's game.  I believe that's where the haters part of this comes in.  For the most part, I don't think that really applies to you.
