Agreed.  Central Scouting's 2013 final rankings has 8 WHL players projected for the first round, compared to the USHL's 2 (and none in the top 20).  Small sample size, I know but still worth noting.

Nothing gives me an aneurysm quicker than hearing "keep doing what we're doing" as the answer to "how do we change our fortunes in the win-loss column".

 

What more could you ask for out of that game aside from a win?  The Wings dominated the Preds for the majority of the game.  60% on face-offs, out-hitting and out-shooting a team usually means a win.  A couple of bounces going the Wings' way and this game doesn't even go to OT.

 

I know the Wings are on a losing streak but that was a really entertaining game to watch.  

Don't forget that Heatley, Hossa, and Kovalchuk all played for Atlanta.

Pittsburgh put up 58 pts in Crosby's rookie year.  The same year, Washington put up 70 (good for 2nd last in the conference) with Ovi.

man when did the league become so soft?  I don't want to see anyone get hurt, don't get me wrong, but this is hockey. Wasn't a hit to the head, wasn't a blatant cheap shot in my mind. Protecting himself. Was Salo going for a huge hit? maybe not. But was Marchand suppose to just take the hit? To me, thats a good hockey play, kept his head up and protected himself. Call me a Marchand sloppy all you want, but don't see much wrong with the hit. a few years ago this wouldn't even be on the radar or up for discussion.

So you're suggesting that cutting a guy's legs out right before he hits you is a good hockey play? It's as cheap as it gets. Plays like this are the reason there are so many injuries in today's NHL

Three games isn't enough. That hit is pretty much as dirty as it gets.

Im in no way saying that some suspensions shouldn't occur. But do you really thin Wiz should get 8 games for that? suspended? yes prolly, 8 games? no


And instead of suspending everyone, they could just bring the game back to pre lockout, those barely noticeable holds can prevent injuries. I just want hockey 2 be like it was in the 90's.

Absolutely Wisniewski deserved 8 games for that.  He targeted Clutterbuck's head with his elbow after the game had ended. Clutterbuck didn't even have the puck, either.

On top of that Wisniewski has been suspended four times since 2008. He's a meat head.

This is supposed to be the best off season the Wings have had in a long LONG time and Holland has done nothing so far... Oooo, I am gonna make some trades on draft day, Oooo we are gonna make some deals... Strike one Holland....Strike One.... tomorrow is another swing at bat....July 1st is your last swing.... Do not strike out.... yet again.

The flyers have to move somebody... Matt Carle to detroit?

The Wings would do well to go after Carle or Coburn.  Both would be great additions to the team.

I know some of you have been looking at the Flyers as possible trading partners and I agree.  They are in SERIOUS cap trouble because they have a bunch of long term deals tying up a lot of payroll.  A guy like Brayden Coburn would be a good fit for the Wings at a decent cap hit.  He's big (6'5", 220 lbs), young (26) and led the Flyers in hits in the playoffs.  He's also capable of 30+ points a season and can play some serious minutes.  Since the Flyers are in a salary-shedding mode, he might be available for less than you'd think.  Since they can't afford to take one any more salary, a pick and a prospect (such as Emmerton) might be enough to coerce the Flyers into trading him. Just throwing it out there.

Kevin Weekes is as mediocre doing color as he was as a goaltender.  I almost switched over to NBC to listen to Edzo.  That's saying a lot.

I have a managerial accounting final tomorrow afternoon.  Wings game or studying?
