#2416249 Wow... Danny Cleary

Posted by HockeytownRules19 on 30 May 2013 - 03:19 PM

Cleary suffered a second-degree separated left shoulder and a fractured left finger after he was slammed into the boards by Anaheim's Daniel Winnik in Game 5.

Major Props to the Newfoundlander! Dude give it his all and more!

"As it turns out, defenseman Danny DeKeyser could have been back next week."

#2412208 Datsyuk | Because It's The Cup (Fan Promo)

Posted by MrNHLFanatic on 26 May 2013 - 09:10 PM

Over the years, Pavel Datsyuk has proven to be an amazing two-way forward. Hopefully,
he and the Detroit Red Wings will defeat the Blackhawks, and move on to the Western Conference Finals.
Anyways, here's my attempt at a "Datsyukian" Commercial:

Comments are always appreciated.

#2386482 Top 5 defenseman

Posted by Zetts on 18 April 2013 - 02:10 PM

I absolutely guarantee that we would regret trading Smith or even sitting him for extended periods of time.  As I've said before, this is exactly what people were saying when Fischer came into the league.  My lord people here hated him for quite some time.

Yes, Smith hasn't been as good as we expected in his first season, but he'll get a lot better.  To do that, not only does he have to stay here, but he has to get icetime.  Some guys just take a couple of years to really get going.

Obviously, especially with our suckage, peoples' patience is particularly short.  But we can't be stupid about this - he will be a key part of our future.  There's a reason that he's been highly touted.

#2385432 Semin re-signs with Carolina: 5 years, $35 million ($7M/yr)

Posted by Carman on 16 April 2013 - 07:10 PM

There is a pretty good argument that if we spent the money on Wiz we would be worse off. He's been injured a ton since 2010, he's a one dimensional guy that would play a ton of minutes and hurt us defensively. Do we really think that having Wiz here missing 40+ games last season and 1/3 of this one( he's only played more than 70 games once in his career) would really help us that much? Then add to the salary he's making and the constraints of us actually going for a player that would make us better in he future? You pay 5 million + on really good players that can stay healthy, Wisniewski is not this type of player in my opinion. His offensive skill would probably be worth it for some teams, but with his injury history in addition to our defense that really lacks a lock-down defensive guy outside of Ericsson, he would not be the answer.

#2383681 nhl.com calls Kenny the best GM

Many forget that while he may not be perfect, there isn't a GM who is, and he's less imperfect than almost everyone else out there.

Anyway, it'll be funny to see HF's Wings subforum explode over this. Most of the residents there are inveterate pessimists who believe that they're more expert than coaches and GMs alike.

You sure you're not talking about LGWs?

Anyone else tired of Couture's ugly face? Every time he's celebrating I swear his facial expression looks like a kid who just got away with lying to his mom.

#2382885 Milbury rips Ovechkin

Posted by Carman on 11 April 2013 - 06:44 AM

Sure it's a rivalry, both came into the league in the same year.  Both high end talents.  And both playing in the east.  The only thing that makes me wonder about the merits of the rivalry is that Ovechkin was more durable, scored more, and didn't cry as much.  Say what you want about Sid and his ring, but if you hold hockey players to the Gordie Howe or Steve Yzerman standard then Ovechkin wins that rivalry hands down.

Oh please. That's the most ludicrous thing I've seen. Crosby is not as good of a scorer, not as good of a physical presence, and not as durable. But every other conceivable attribute is in Crosby's favor, he plays a two way center game(Is he a Selke candidate? No, not yet at least but his responsibility on the defensive end is just miles above what Ovechkin is asked to do. Crosby take absolutely no nights off, Ovechkin takes weeks off when not being productive with points. Crosby has an over .20 PPG difference, how is it even a question who is better offensively really?

Crosby is 4th all-time in point per game right behind Bossy, during this one of the lowest scoring eras. I mean give me a break, and is .20+ ahead of anyone currently in the league.

Oh and add that Olympic gold medal to the ring too, and don't forget who clinched the victory.

Ovechkin is a great player, but Crosby has separated himself from him since Ovechkin's prime in 07-10 where there was actually a debate. I hope Ovechkin regains his 60+ goal form, he is a great talent and fun to watch. But Crosby is also fun to watch, and I just don't understand how supposed hockey fans can pass over the opportunity to watch one of the greatest players to ever play the game grow as a hockey player, it's a once in the life time opportunity and it's just sad to me. Because as a hockey player my whole life, Crosby is and will be the best player I'll ever watch live, and that's something that I will cherish. There isn't a Gretzky, and Howe in every era, but we are lucky enough to be experiencing one of those type players and it's a shame people don't care about the actually game when it comes to Crosby.

And don't forget how cheap Ovechkin is, he's been suspended, and has countless of at the very least questionable hits. If the Red Wings fans think Backes is cheap, I'd love to see how they would react when Ovechkin would have ran Lidstrom like he did Gonchar, or Gleason,

Let me refresh your mind, this video doesn't even include his suspension and cheapshots from the past 5 years.

#2374721 Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

Posted by Guest on 27 March 2013 - 06:41 PM

I have to admit, this was a damn good post.  I really cannot say you were incorrect in any of your assessments.

We really cannot say that Holland is a great post cap GM just as we can't say Yzerman is the same in Tampa Bay.  The truly good GMs of the cap era are the ones that make the playoffs every year IMHO.  Thats really all you can ask for.  You cannot predict how a team will gel.  You cannot predict chemistry.  The days of the dynasty are over in the NHL.  The new dynasty is making the playoffs, which the Wings have done for 20+ straight seasons, which is a record.

The NHL instituted a salary cap in 2005.  The Wings have made the playoffs every year, won a Stanley Cup, made it to game 7 of the Stanely Cup finals, several conference finals and we can't say Holland is a great post cap GM?  Who would be then?

#2366159 wings arent winning the cup

Posted by cupforwings on 07 March 2013 - 05:04 PM

You just saved me a lot of time in May and June, thanks!

Seriously, though. I don't think they have what it takes, either. When I watch a lot of other teams, they are faster, work harder, and just have the desire that our boys don't seem to have.

You forgot other teams also have less injuries.  And I completely disagree that our boys don't have the desire to win.  IMO, the reason we have been winning is because the teams work ethic and desire.

The parity in the NHL is ridiculous.  I kind of look at it like this: There are 3 tiers of teams.  The top tier is small, including Chicago, Anaheim, Vancouver, Boston, Pittsburgh maybe.  THen you have tier 2 which includes most other teams in the playoff chase, including the Red Wings.  The final tier has the teams like Edmonton, Columbus, NYI, etc.

The point is, do you think the Wings could beat Chicago or Anaheim in a 7 game series?  IMO, yes, because the teams in tier 1 aren't all that different from the teams in tier 2.  Anaheim wasn't even that good last year and this year they are tearing it up.  When you look at the big picture, teams really aren't that far apart when it comes to talent, especially in the top 2 tiers.  Carolina will probably be a top seed in the East this year.  Do you think the Wings could beat them in a 7 game series?  I watch them play sometimes and they aren't all that impressive.  LA was a tier 2 team last year and managed to win the cup.  I am not convinced that this team can't win the cup when healthy.  I think they have the ability to do it, and I think one more piece would push us closer to the top of tier 2.  I also realize that every other team in Tier 1 and Tier 2 have the same chance and ability to win it as well.

I just think people are panicking because we aren't the same dominant team we have been in the past.  But the league has been changing dramatically, even since 2009 and 2010.  Teams are a lot close together in terms of talent and depth. You have to get hot at the right time, get good luck with injuries, and anything can happen.

@AnsarKhanMLive: Ian White said he was surprised to be a healthy scratch tonight, Said he's frustrated and upset by it.

Ian White needs to learn to shut it. He ran his mouth during the lockout. Now he's complaining about being benched.

How about this? Stop sucking.

Kindl gets whipped, beaten, and benched by Babs all the time. All he says is that he's "dissapointed and has to just keep working hard". Kindl's been better than White btw.
