#2181237 Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

Posted by Cevari on 31 May 2011 - 11:31 AM

R.I.P. Atlanta Thrashers.

Not surprised, a bit sad because Atlanta would've been a great market to get a hold on. Mainly happy for Winnipeg though, can't imagine how happy the fans there are. Especially considering they had a team and lost it before.

#2173876 WCSF Game 7 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Sharks 3

I can't explain why but I feel confident we're winning this one. Too bad for my poor heart it's not going to be a blowout but I'll take any kind of win here.

God dammit I hate whoever schedules playoff games. Why do even the home games have to start an hour later than normal? I'll be soldiering through tonight's game but for game 7 I'll probably have to go to sleep early and wake up to watch at 4am <_<

#2156027 Ruutu suspended for clean hit on Erat

Posted by Cevari on 21 April 2011 - 07:02 PM

As much as I dislike Ruutu I really can't see how that's even a penalty. Looks like a good hit to me. Frankly I don't know how Erat went down like that, either he got especially unlucky with the way that landed or he was busting out some ballerina moves to draw the penalty.

As for the suspension... Ruutu is a well-known pest / dirty player while Kunitz isn't exactly high on the Pens goon list, so that probably plays a part. It is silly though, the Kunitz elbow was a cowardly attempt to injure and if Gagne had pulled a Shakespeare performance on it it would've been more than one game. I despise this soccer mentality of embellishing everything in order to get an edge that's creeping in lately.

#2146595 Money On The Board - Playoff Style

Posted by Cevari on 11 April 2011 - 07:01 PM

Guess I'll hop in. I'm a poor student though so not gonna put up a lot, but let's say $5 for every series win and $2 for every Wings shutout.

I reckon that $52 will be a small price to pay for watching the wings sweep the playoffs 16-0 with 0 goals against

#2123010 Prayers for Shawn Burr

Posted by Cevari on 27 February 2011 - 10:32 AM

Here's hoping for a full recovery. Much sympathy and strength to him and his family.

Just a thought, but would it be possible to gather some kind of collection of messages from the fans to Shawn? I'm sure it could be delivered to him through the Red Wings organisation somehow, and maybe it would in part help him find the strength needed to beat this. Let him know his contributions have not been forgotten.

I've got a good feeling about this one so I'm staying up for the whole thing.

The challenge: to stay awake, having a fair amount of beer in my system already.

The answer: more beer until the game is over!

Not sure if Hudler is getting an assist on that but he'd deserve one. Drove to the net and drew both of tampas D on him, letting Dats cruise in and get the rebound in. Textbook offense overall, looking very good tonight.

Yeah, so I think that's confirmation they're ripping dialogue from a porn movie. I bet they work the phrase "money shot" somewhere in the 3rd.

Ah well, if that's how it's gonna be let's hope it's positive at least.

Can tell Vs. has fired a bunch of people, they just had a typo on the overlay there. "Matt Cooke a dirty player?", I don't really know how they managed to typo a question mark in place of a period though

Cleary and Dats work their asses off and get a scoring chance. I hope the rest of the team is watching.

#2099074 THN: Zetterberg should be disciplined for skipping ASG

Posted by Cevari on 17 January 2011 - 06:18 PM

So let me get this straight. The Red Wings ask the NHL not to invite Z to the ASG. The NHL grants the request, Z is not chosen. This guy wants the NHL to fine Zetterberg because his club dared make a request and the NHL complied. Surely the guilty party here would be the NHL, seeing how they're the only ones why actually made a decision in this chain of events. Maybe next they can start giving out fines to players for bad calls...

#2092253 THN's Ross McLean "Scouting Blog" - Teemu Pulkkinen

Posted by Cevari on 07 January 2011 - 04:12 AM

Iron Hook and Pulu should each spend one more year in Europe. If they show signs of improvement then give them at least one year in the AHL.

Agreed. The thing about players like this is that while they can dominate in the European leagues or the WJC with just their skill and level and hockey instincts, the same will not be true for the NHL. When the opposing team has 4th line grinders with the same skill level (note that I don't mean this in any way demeaningly, Järnkrok and Pulkkinen are just both too young to have reached their full potential) AND they have a ton more physicality it leads to players like this being smothered. They simply can't play their own game because their style is more like that of a top 6 forward than a grinder. This means they can't be given the amount of minutes they need to fully grow into their potential, and can be disastrous for their development. The Wings are traditionally very good at giving their prospects time to reach the level they need to actually succeed in the NHL, not just survive, and I would expect no less in the case of these two.

We'll just have to be patient and think of all the highlight-reel goals these two will give us in years to come.
