I was born at the end of 71, so I was pretty young when it happened, but I remember it very clearly.
As far as the importantance of Drew, I think in many ways that the meat and potatoes guys, the PKers, grinders, third pair D often get overlooked since the eyes are drawn to the superstars and flashier players or goalies.
The number of man games stat is an interesting one, but are all man-games lost created equal? Losing a Datsyuk or Zetterberg to injury is much more of an impact to a team than if it was a seventh defenseman or spare forward on the IR.
Yotes going for 5 in a row, lets stop someone else's streak for a change
Give the Coyotes a streak in their hockey shorts when they realize the Wings have a mad on and light them up for 6+ goals.
I will second the first career hat trick for Larkin, today is as good as any. Goose gets off his snake bitten streak, Zetterberg, Smith and Abdelkader. Multiple assists for Datsyuk, Green, and Zetterberg.
Using season search parameters of:
A) As of Game 42 and
B) A Game Differential (Wins minus Losses) of +8 or greater, which accounts for 34 seasons...
This is the first season in Club History with a minus Goals Differential: -3.
It's great to see our stats master back! It is good to see you post in again, hope all has been well.
at Getz's face.....and look at the Ducks fan under Larkin's armpit(s)! Still shots like this are awesome, you don't see this stuff live!
That is a great surrender cobra on the ducks fan. Getzlaf looks like he is either about to do a Sling Blade impression or an impression of Shemp Howard of the Three Stooges.
The team is about where I thought they would be, though not where I hoped (what can I say, I am a greedy bastich who wants the Wings to tear through the rest of the league like a buzzsaw). We have some declines showing from some vets as has been noted. I think the free agent signings have been a plus. As they get more acclimated to the team and everyone gets used to Blashill the chemistry will only improve.
Mrazek is so far rounding out into what we hoped he would be. Howard needs to get out of his funk. Larkin is going to be something special, and I look forward to seeing him blossom.
I am surprised our offensive output is as low as it is, and the PP is an area of concern. Mrazek has a few undeserved losses due to lack of goal support. I also concur with the need for help on the blue line, but trading DeKeyser is not the answer. The number of blown third period leads is also problematic.
I am looking forward to a 25th straight playoff run. Call me way too optimistic, but if they are healthy and get hot, they could do some damage, IMHO. The ROW tiebreaker is going to be a big factor this season, I think.
I am DVRing this one, my best friend kidnapped me to go to a reading session for the grad program he went through for his MFA. Rocking my old school Konstantinov jersey though. I will have the thread open on the wifi, but I don't know how much I will be able to post. I am semi hiding in the back of the coffee shop section.
Take advantage of the BOS and MTL losses, get the 2 points and another ROW. (I wouldn't complain about OT since the extra point goes to the other conference, but I would prefer not to go to the shootout. shootout since I have a feeling the ROW tiebreaker is going to be a factor at season's end.
I'd like to see Pavel embarrass Perry again, though preferably by burning him with a sick move then a goal rather than by winning another fight with him. Larkin lighting the lamp a couple of times, and Kronwall drilling someone cleanly. Last game the PK trended in the right direction (coincidence that Miller came back? I think not.). Time for the PP to start converting.
No collapses please!!!! Get the lead and keep it!
This. A couple of insurance goals would help this. Give Mrazek some goal support.
