#2433633 Wings sign Nyquist to 2-year, $1.9m deal ($950k/yr cap hit)

IMHO, Kenny has done a masterful job this offseason with his signings of Alfredsson, Weiss, and getting Goose and Andersson at great cap hits. Now we just need to see how he trims the roster. I've got a good feeling this season. I also think Nyquist is going to have a breakout year.

#2433630 Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Wouldn't Alfredsson be issued his Wings gear at training camp, which hasn't happened yet? No biggie IMHO.

#2432716 So the consensus on Shanny's #14 is a no?

Posted by TheXym on 07 August 2013 - 05:57 AM

I took it as a dissing of the Bruins' miserly ways at the time. It could also have been viewed as disrespectful to the guys who spent a much longer time there that deserved it (such as Sakic, Forsberg, Roy) by setting the bar for retirement so seemingly low. He did not play there nearly long enough, and it reeks of the franchise being desperate to put a number in the rafters. Borque may have won a Cup with the slush, but I'd think that the vast majority of hockey fans consider him a Bruin.

Flip stunk in the shootout.

Nobody to pass to in the shootout. ;)

#2430730 Stars for Cup Wins

Even though I don't like Soccer, there's not much of an argument to be made about it's worldwide popularity. It is hands down the number one sport on the planet, nothing even comes close to comparison.
I don't like the idea of any logo alteration but maybe "ticks" on the jersey sleeve or something would be cool. In the military you get a small stripe on the lower left sleeve for every 3 years of service, so maybe something along those lines for each cup won in franchise history. It doesn't have to be all that noticeable or large but something to permanently represent that team's history integrated on the jersey would be interesting.

I think the Islanders had 4 small stripes on their jerseys at one point in the late 90's-early 2000's to represent their four championships.

#2430240 Brendan Smith signs 2-year, $2.525m contract with Red Wings

Posted by TheXym on 15 July 2013 - 09:01 PM

Filing for arbitration is used quite a bit just to kickstart negotiations & get a deadline out there to get a deal done before it does go to an arbitrator.  It was speculated from the start that Smith filing was nothing more than that.

It also takes offer sheets from other teams out of the picture.

#2430133 So.. what are our expectations for this roster?

Kronner-big E

The Swedish 5 :P

If they rack up the points and the wins like the Russian 5 did, people shouldn't complain.

#2429960 Brunner Contract Talks

Trogdor approves of the Home Star Brunner nickname. Does that mean he'd burninate the goalie when he scores?

Well, his name fits- Damien the Devil

Sounds like some kind of omen to me. ;). They just need to put Miroslav Satan on the other wing.

#2428244 Wings Attempting to Re-sign Cleary

Posted by TheXym on 06 July 2013 - 09:15 PM

We don't need another voth player.  Plus Ling Enizgh is on LITR and can't be traded.

But... I thought Ling Enizgh was the JUCK F***ING POTT?

Warren Zevon said it best: "

And his hair was perfect".

Huge props for the Warren Zevon reference. Best of luck to Fil in TB. Thanks for your years of service in the winged wheel.

#2424601 Red Wings No Longer "Presented by Amway!"

Posted by TheXym on 02 July 2013 - 07:51 AM

Glad to no longer have the team associated with the pyramid scheme.
Though it could've been worse...St Louis is sponsored by Monsanto!

I would NOT want to partake from their training table, that's for sure. One of, if not the most evil companies in the world, IMHO.

#2424014 2013 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

Hope everything is alright.

I think it will be, but any prayers/positive thoughts for my daughter Evelyn will be greatly appreciated. I'm just thankful she said something to her mothet about the thoughts she was having instead of acting on them. She's in a residential counseling/treatment program now that is top notch.
