Thanks For the Great Season, Wings!

Good game, even better series. Congratulations on a productive season, and all the best for 2011-2012. Looks like this board will have to get me through another summer...

    Favorite Non-Wing?

Loui Eriksson rules. Living near Philly, I get to see Giroux a lot...and his handles are awesome. Defensemen wise - no one. Goalies: Turco

That's because they were. Minus some spurts in the LA and PHX game, of course. We were in the SJ game until Joey's gaffe. That's not to say I enjoyed the results of the games; it's a complete bummer we lost in PHX. With that being said, I felt we owned the first period last night, and totally got screwed out of a double minor (obviously). But, as Babcock said, "Those are the breaks." You just deal with them and move on. I don't want Babcock to become irate again - we know what the problems are, they know what the problems are, and I'm sure are trying to correct it. I tend to agree with Jimmy's sentiments following last night's game - we didn't win, but we definitely put forth a far better effort than what was shown in the 3rd period in PHX. There was definitely a conscious effort to dump and chase last night, and it paid dividends in the first period. Then we kind of relented with that strategy after we were down and I saw the old "try to deke at the blue line when there are 4 opposite colored jerseys around me" routine. The good news is this: atleast we didn't give up many goals, and we now have recent film on how to protect a lead in the NHL. Unfortunately, it was the Kings maintaing the lead, but the Red Wings will take notes I'm sure and move on. While I don't disagree that the Joe is easy to play at right now, I firmly believe we can take a few positives out of last night's game and translate them into a win next game. A couple calls and bounces here and there, and it could have been a different outcomes last night. In any event, here's to a stomping of the Oil on Friday!

I don't understand / agree with the sentiment that it was a bad call. You can clearly see in any replay that Salei, on his last resort, diving attempt, yanked a little on Ryan's left arm. It's a hook by definition! This impeded a quality, legitimate scoring chance, and a PS was called. Very fair in my opinion. I'm sure he sold the hook by toe picking and falling, thus making it seem like an egregious penalty on Salei's behalf, but I'm going to say the Ref saw the hook and called that instead of a "trip". I'm not sure what the box score reports the play as, but I'm too lazy to look. Regardless, it was a hook and a penalty was deserved. Howard played a FANTASTIC game, and his leathered larceny on Perry was AWESOME. Wish the PP clicked / got more shots on, but it is what it is. That's my favorite cliche, so deal with it everybody. Just an interesting point to make - whenever I see Jimmy chart faceoffs on the bench, he's writing with his left hand. I don't think I've ever seen a left-handed person catch with his left hand...ever. I write with my right and catch left, and I thought literally every goalie did that (catch with the non dominant hand). Here's to being unique, Jimmy!

    Justin Abdelkader

I'm just going to assume she was being sarcastic, as I think I've seen her post some non-asinine comments before. In any event, I will echo some of the previous sentiments expressed in this thread - I think once he gets penciled back in to a winger position he'll flourish (in terms of physicality). I'm going to chalk his relatively recent lack of physicality up to maybe his perception that he needs to be more defensively reponsible as a centerman, and thus doesn't want to get caught up inthe offensive zone too much due to a severe forecheck. But figure his defensive responsibility will slightly lessen if he's manning the LW position and could mess some people up.

No Helm? Even though he hasn't done much except score one goal in like 30+ games, I still like Abdelkader more than Miller. The reason why Lids and Raf aren't together that much is so that their bodies are spared for the playoffs. I remember at the beginning of the year Babs said he'd do this so that Stu and E can go back and retrieve the puck, while allowing Lids and Raf to set up the break out. After last night's game, I'm just sad. Here's to hoping they turn things around against a desperate Buffalo team. I want ZDH back together for a full game, and Flip center Cleary and Franzen. Mo being the pivot for Hudler and Bert. I don't know...anything but Mo Flip Homer...I just don't like the sounds of that one...
  12. Eggs Over Eavesy

Datsyuk & Holmstrom more than likely won't play this weekend

Even though I'm disappointed, I'm glad they're taking these precautionary measures. Mind you, Babcock DID say, "...Our guys have been cleared to play but it's just a matter of they don't feel like they can at this point.'' As long as we're winning, I'm fine with Houdini and Homer getting the necessary strength back to where they feel comfortable. I wasn't expecting Homer to come back this soon anyways. Great news for Modano...get him back in time to get his legs back, and then maybe in the playoffs get ZDH clicking w/ Fil, Mo, and Helm centering the rest of the lines.

Red Wings Hosting the Classic, 24/7at some point?

If Detroit could convince the NFL that they could host the Super Bowl, they sure as hell shouldn't have a difficult time convincing Buttman to let us host the Winter Classic. Detroit is home to one of the leagues most popular franchises. Touche. Very good point brought up, and it's well taken. You aren't looking hard enough. The entire Greektown strip is almost 100% restaurants. Cheli's Chili, Hockeytown Cafe, all the casino restaurants, you may have heard of this chef before: http://www.roastdetroit.com/ I'm not trying to come down on you, but to hear that you couldn't find a restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday is a bit ridiculous. I guarantee that all of the above and more were open. No offense taken whatsoever. With that being said, Cheli's Chili for some reason was not allowing anyone in. I was ridiculously pumped to go there, as per this forum, I've heard great things - I had to settle for JLA Cheli's chili the next day. Which was still great. In any event, we didn't have time to go to Greektown, so I'll concede that point. We didn't go to Hockeytown because the people I were with saw the burger shop and didn't want to go. But the point is this - aside from the burger shop, Hard Rock, and apparently Greek Town, no one else was open to serve food. Not even 2 bars that we went to. The point isn't to "look hard enough" to find a place to eat, but rather, in a major city, there should be a multitude of eateries open, especially downtown on a weekend evening. We took note of several places closed. So as to not derail the thread, like I've mentioned before, the Super Bowl comment is very interesting, and hopefully there's a way to have the Wings host an O6 rivalry game. I think that would be insanely epic, especially coupled with a 24/7 series.

Red Wings Hosting the Classic, 24/7at some point?

Doesn't it? I have intentions of opening up a store near JLA (or the new stadium whenever it's built) with punny food items based on player names. It's gonna be baller. In any event, while I hope for both, I think titanium2 may be correct - I really don't see them striving to promote it in terms of a marketing campaign, solely based on Detroit's situation as a city. I've only visited once since being born there (saw the Datsyuk/Bertuzzi awesome shootout goals against the Hawks last year) and the ciy itself wasn't so great. We only found a couple restaurants that were open on a Saturday at about 6 p.m. - the Hard Rock, and I think some little burger shop named Checker's , or something to that effect. It's owned by 2 sisters or whatever. But that's just unacceptable. With that being said, I hope it happens, as Comerica would be an awesome venue...or worst case scenario, it gets moved to Ann Arbor and a new record for attendance can be set for an NHL game. Do you think Babcock & Co. would be receptive to allowing such candid behind the scenes access during the regular season? I think that was a point of contention going into the production of this past Winter Classic 24/7. A "Hard Knocks" edition for the Red Wings would be AWESOME...I'd love to see the trials and tribulations of a Tatar/Smith/Mursak/whoever else trying to make the club next year.
  15. Don't know if this has been posted anywhere (if so, my bad; if not, enjoy), but here's the link and a brief quote. http://www.freep.com/article/20110129/SPORTS05/110129013/Tom-Wilson-Red-Wings-should-consider-playing-outdoor-game-Comerica-Park "Wilson said he would go back “and have conversations” with general manager Ken Holland and owner Mike Ilitch on whether the Wings would consider hosting an outdoor game in the future and if they’d be receptive to being involved in something like the HBO reality show.
