Quick question about these types of signings...

Per Darren Dreger of twitter: "Red Wings announce the hiring of Tom Renney as an associate coach. 3 year deal. Good things happen to good people. Good hire."

What exactly do the Red Wings (or any NHL origination for that matter) do to announce a signing like this? Do they just call up their closest reporter/beat writer and say "Hey, we signed so and so as a coach, considered it announced"?

They have press releases that announce signings officially.

This was last night before the Suter and Parise signings.

I wouldn't have wanted Suter at that cap hit. Yuck. He's not even a top-5 defenceman in the league.

Hockeyinsiderr is the most Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of all the sources, at times he does exactly what you say and he breaks a story before anyone else, than other times hes way off in left field and is Eklundesque.

Michael Russo is actually the beat writer for the Minnesota Wild, and he is one of the best beat writers there are out there. You are thinking of Rob Rossi, or @RobRossi_Trib. He is the nutjob Penguins writer. But he does have legitamate sources and breaks trades and rumors a lot, even if he is quite biased. I'm going to update the OP now.

Although Twitter is probably the premiere way to get NHL news, there are a couple people who deal in baseless speculation, rather than reliable information. Here are some Twitter sources you shouldn't cite/believe:

No worries -- it was more source material than anything. I had two large, hi-res images of Franzen that fit the look of the Datsyuk/Zetterberg photos and had them both in home/away sweaters. I plan on doing some updating come July 1st, anyway. (Lidstrom left me scrambling for a 3rd "in color" player as he was previously one of the three.)

There's some pre-cut Red Wings images here, if you are looking for a different player to add (Jimmy has some good ones)
