#2178835 Brian Rafalski appreciation thread

Posted by blueadams on 23 May 2011 - 10:50 PM

'07-'08: 55pts in 73gms (0.75pts/gm)
'08-'09: 59pts in 78gms (0.76pts/gm)
'09-'10 42pts in 78gms (0.54pts/gm)
'10-'11: 48pts in 63gms (0.76pts/gm)

Please do a quick graph of pts/gm vs season. And tell me if the line is trending downwards at the end of 2011.

Thanks. ;)

interesting point. i thought there was more to hockey than racking up power play points, but sure...you're right...i'm wrong...i'm an idiot. that's what you were expecting to hear, right?

i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here, because I think that you're completely off base. he's been slipping for the last couple of seasons.

I've always liked Rafalski but you've got your head in the sand if you can't see that his play has declined quite a bit since he first signed in Detroit. He can't keep up in his own end anymore.

That said, his offense will be very hard to replace.

Sanity. Does anyone else here still have theirs?

#2178908 Will Dan Markov have influence on Andre?

I'm not even going to address the post that says Markov is more talented offensively than Lidstrom.

As for the OP's question, Andrei and Danny Markov aren't related.

That loss really, really sucked. Especially after they won 3 games in a row.

But I'm glad they fought hard until the end. Go Wings!

Would LOOOVE to hear people's reasoning behind the Eaves votes too...

They're jealous that his smile is too wide.

#2175166 Will Nicklas Lidstrom Retire?

Hopefully not until #5 gets cup #5.

#2175586 Will Nicklas Lidstrom Retire?

Posted by Red Wings Addict on 14 May 2011 - 03:42 PM

"Obviously, he proved to himself (this season) that he's a top-one defenseman," forward Danny Cleary said, laughing at his own impromptu designation. "It's hard to retire when you're the best. So, I don't know. I hope he comes back for our sake, and for everybody's sake."

Haha. I've never heard anybody else use that "top-one" phrase.

The only way Kenny goes after a big name defenseman is if Lidstrom retires. I think Lidstrom will re-sign. But if he does retire, I don't expect Holland sign a BIG NAME guy, just a solid #3/4 guy at around $4 million (Brad Stuart caliber type-guy)

If Lidstrom retires this offseason and Holland only signs a Brad Stuart-caliber defenseman, the Wings will instantly have the worst defense in the league. Unless you are talking Brad Stuart of two-three years ago and not Brad Stuart this year, in which case the Wings' defense will still be significantly worse at both ends.

I think the big FA signing will be for a backup goalie.. and maybe a 7th depth defenseman. One of Draper/Miller will be re-signed (likely Draper) to fill the 13th forward spot. Abelkader will be moved up to the 3rd line, Mursak and Emmerton will fill in the 4th line.

BOOM! We have a full roster for next season. Holland will save cap space for trade deadline where he may opt to trade a low-end prospect to a non-playoff team looking to salary dump.

The big FA signing will be backup goalie? So what happens on defense? Ericsson is almost certainly not coming back, Salei basically lost his spot to Kindl, and wasn't terribly effective, so he probably won't be back. Osgood intends to come back, so the only way Holland signs a new backup is if Osgood simply can't play due to his injury. The Wings have ten forwards signed, with perhaps two checking line forwards. Eaves, Miller, Mursak, Emmerton, and possibly Draper are vying for those last three or four forward spots, so a new forward is unlikely. Which leaves a fair amount of cap space to load up on the defense, which was the team's biggest weakness these past couple of seasons. Also, after this coming season, our entire current top four (including Lidstrom) will go UFA, so having an Ehrhoff, Pitkanen, or Bieksa locked down would be a good start on the 12-13 team as well; Rafalski almost certainly won't be on that team, probably no Lidstrom either. So having Kronwall/Ehrhoff/Pitkanen already established would be better than spending a year fumbling around with the defense.

Forget about those scrubs Minard and Johnson. Just dump 'em somewhere.

Let the prospects play!!!

Nyquist-Andersson-Pare
Tatar-Ferraro-Callahan
Nestrasil-Raedeke-Coetzee
Parkes-Aubry-Keefe

Smith-Lashoff
Ehrhardt-Janik
Piche/Fournier-Amadio

MacDonald
Pearce
McCollum

Yeah I know it won't happen. Just a nice thought for the moment.

#2176702 Bertuzzi and Cleary

Posted by Red Wings Addict on 18 May 2011 - 02:33 AM

Red Wings' Danny Cleary cleared from concussion, but Todd Bertuzzi still feeling effects.
"I met with Dan for an hour this morning -- he looks great, feels great," general manager Ken Holland said Tuesday. "If we were playing today, he could play."

Cleary suffered the concussion last Thursday during a collision with teammate Jiri Hudler, who caught Cleary in the face with an elbow. Bertuzzi was hurt during a collision with Sharks forward Dany Heatley.

"Todd is getting better every day, but he's not quite over the effects of it yet," Holland said.

Cleary told the Free Press he was relieved his ordeal was over so quickly.

"I felt good the last two days," he said. "It's a scary situation anytime you deal with the head. I'm glad that I didn't have any symptoms that continued to linger. I look forward to a great summer of training hard and preparing for next season."
