#2683001 Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

Posted by puckbags on 12 July 2016 - 04:24 PM

If you won't put 13/40 up because they never did anything of significance without Lidstrom, then let's take Yzerman's jersey off the rafters. Dude was a playoff choke artist before Feds and Lidstrom reached their primes. He was also the 3rd wheel for all 3 cups.

If you're only putting up generational talents, then only Lidstrom and Howe belong in there. Yzerman is not one.

You don't have to answer this but I would be interested to know how old you are just so I can legitimize your points.  Yzerman played in the Gretzky/Lemieux era, 2 of the top 5 forwards ever.  The DUDE as you call him is 7th in all time scoring and managed to carve his own path and then humbly adjusted his game for the benefit of the team late in his career.  I'm 37 and if I had to list the generational talents of my youth Yzerman would 100% be on that list.

#2679636 Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Posted by puckbags on 27 June 2016 - 11:38 AM

I thought Stamkos wanted to be the main guy?
Anyway, I can for sure see the appeal of playing in Buffalo or Toronto, but at the same time we are talking about what was the last place and 23rd place teams in the league as of a couple months ago. Up-and-coming is never a guarantee, and there's definitely a level of risk associated with signing the rest of your career away to one of those two teams. The Wings haven't been all that exciting the past few seasons, but at the very least we've been a consistent playoff team. For similar money, it might be more appealing to come to Detroit because we have a better track record of playing games that matter in April.

I think it's all about that right there. He's been close in T Bay and I really find it hard to believe that he will want to go way backwards to teams that have no chance of contending.  I hope that he will see with the Wings that with him and a couple of other moves we have a chance to contend.  Larkin and Stamkos going forward makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

#2677661 NHL Chooses Las Vegas for 17-18 Expansion

Posted by puckbags on 14 June 2016 - 02:06 PM

Silliest thing I have heard in a long time but it's Bettman so what do we expect.  People who live in Vegas don't like to go anywhere near the strip so why would you expect them to come to the strip to watch a sport they have no interest in watching?  The novelty of guys like me going to a Wing's game once a year or every couple of years will wear off pretty quick.  Over/under on this lasting more than 7 years?

Not close to being the Wings best player of all time, let alone the GOAT. Lidstrom, Feds, Yzerman go before him

What does that have to do with anything that happened today? It's a day to celebrate the life of a legend, not to compare him to other great players.  But for the record putting Feds above Mr. Hockey is comicial.

Just watched a tribute on sportsnet.  When Lidstrom came to Detroit he asked to wear # 9. They pointed to the rafters and told him he couldn't wear that number.  #5 looks pretty good up there too.  RIP Mr Hockey.

#2677171 Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

If Radulov is honestly looking for 7.5 million/yr for 2 years as the rumors are floating around he and his agent are out of their minds.

Getting radulov would be huge!! Throw in a Loui erikson/okposo/brouwer and Matt Martin that would be great!!!

Then flip Tatar + for vatanen
Move datsyuk to Arizona
Move Howard to the canes/islanders
Move E to anyone, if not bury him
Sign Montoya

Abdelkader- Larkin-erikson/okposo/Brouwer
Radulov- AA- Nyquist
Zetterberg- sheahan- mantha
Martin- glendening- jurco

Kronwall- green
Dekeyser- vatanen
Smith- marchenko
XO- Sproul

Mrazek
Montoya

I like that roster a lot and think it could compete and be better built for playoff hockey. If Larkin, mantha, and AA all take good steps forward it could be very good.

Unplug the PS4/Xbox, put down the controller and walk away slowly.

@

2009, too.

25 years of being a Wings fan and the last 2 games of that series are still tough.  Would've been our second back to back in a 11 year span.  Hurts.

#2672786 I Hate Jeff Blashill because ...

Hate ? Cmon man, are you like 12? The guy is a hockey coach.  He got out coached big time and has a lot to learn at this level but at the end of the day he's just a dude and dudes make mistakes.

That series was a synopsis of our whole season. Couldn't score. Special teams sucked.  Clearly were out coached and Ericsson was on the ice for a big goal against. To the people who think a move at the deadline would've helped should be happy now that we saved the picks and prospects because without some proactive thinking this team was going nowhere.  Tough last game for Pav, hope he stays but I think thats it.  I would sell the house, farm, cars and even the kids to get Stamkos. Once in a 10 year type span to get a player like him. Show him everything he wants to see and at the end of the day if he wants to go somewhere else so be it...but please put in some effort.  This organization is stale and needs a hockey trade or two.  There are many servicable guys on this team still but roles need to be redefined.

Isn't a statement like this pretty much the definition of prejudice? Judging an entire race/ethnicity etc. based on a stereotype?

Not if its the truth, in the history of hockey Russian players have been known to be sub par defensively and superior offensively.  It's not the truth for all ( Datsyuk ) but on a large sample size its the truth. No different in the NFL saying that the majority of great QB's have been white, majority of the best RB's have been black. I'm from Canada, we suck at soccer, always have. Brazil does not.  It's not racism, prejudice,  or politically correct BS, its the truth.  A fact.

Our D suffers from a serious personality disorder. What an effort by those guys tonight.  I'll give Smitty first star. Simple game, some grit and some speed back there. We've got a series.

Glendenning - Abby - Sheahan will be playing against the johnson line, already confirmed by Helene

Never understood the strategy of creating a line to "shut down" an opposing teams top line; when said line will not produce any offence at all. This just means youre wasting 20 minutes of the game not scoring. If the other team's top line scores just once, youre basically starting a 2 period game down 1-0.

Don't know if translating my brain to a post makes sense there but I'm not a fan of this strategy lol

I'd like to use Dats - Helm -AA against that line since it has a balance of speed/offence/defence. (You know, what an ideal top line has)

What is their to understand? That line has killed us.  Create a line to stop them, any scoring from our guys on that line is a bonus.  That line has some speed and some grit, I like the move a lot.  Someone has to be in Johnson's mug all night. I have a feeling it may be Glendening's turn to take that role.

Emelianenko - Helm - McGrattan

I just spit my drink out, what a waste of booze

This team probably won't even make the playoffs next year without Datsyuk

Really, what has Datsyuk done in the first 2 games? He's been terrible, and if you take off the rose colored glasses he wasn't all that good in the regular season. Flashes of brilliance but his game wasn't consistent.
