#2567808 Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Posted by Dabura on 02 February 2015 - 12:45 PM

My biggest issue with waiting one more year is that the planets really seem to be aligning for us this season. Zetterberg's having an absolute best-case scenario campaign, and the same can probably be said of Datsyuk. (If Datsyuk or Zetterberg starts to falter, we're not winning the Cup. Unless we add a top-end centerman.) Howard's been great, and we've basically been able to spot him a few weeks of rest without it impacting our place in the standings. Special teams, shot suppression, puck possession - our underlying numbers are really damn good for a team that doesn't have any prime-years all-star studs. The East, again, is as wide open as it's ever going to be, and we're right there at the top. This might be (but likely isn't) Babcock's last go-around with the Wings. Maybe most importantly, Babcock and Holland have pretty much come out and said that this team is a year or more ahead of schedule - so whatever The Plan was in the fall, it's safe to say it's changed, or has at least been accelerated.

If we add a top-three defenseman, one who can move the puck and put up points and play big minutes, we're as good as any team in the East. If The Right Deal presents itself, Holland should go for it. Strike while the iron is hot. If The Right Deal doesn't present itself...well, I'll be highly skeptical. But I'm used to trade deadline disappointment. Que sera, sera.

Just had 15 forwards on the team a couple days ago and now playing one short in a game.

And magically Holland doesn't have to do anything, again.

Well, if we thought we were screwed offensively before, we're REALLY screwed offensively now.

Maybe it forces others to step up.

#2416417 Wow... Danny Cleary

Posted by lwing on 30 May 2013 - 10:07 PM

Danny plays hard and, as we know all too well by now, guys like that are worth their weight in gold in the playoffs. He's had a string of injuries for years here and that's tough, but even without this I was happy with him. Yes, he was a little timid and cutesy a few times when he could/should have just taken the darn shot, but they guy just oozes effort. He comes to play, it is always the case. Others could learn from his level of dedication and effort.

That last call should have been called. There was an empty net at the other end of the ice. People would be furious if that play kept the puck in the zone and the ducks ended up scoring.

#2367979 4 Forwards that are/may be available, that help us:

Stafford of course would be the best option and Holland has a strong relationship with Regier.  I wouldn't mind Kulemin as well, seeing if he'd form good chemistry with Datsyuk.  I like the idea of Dubinsky, but only if we replaced Abdelkader with him.  Not like Hornqvist due to his lack of size.

Lets hope they get back on track eh? :/

I think they will but the oils will get a couple weak goals.... 4-2 wings.

Pav, Pav, stunner, and Abby with the empty netter

Edit: LGW! ha

Filppula hasn't played well enough to run his own line with Tatar and Nyquist, but I'd like to see

Could switch up the Griffs, but I think Brunner and Z shoot enough and Nyquist could be the playmaker of the line.

If I was lucky enough to go to a Wings game and Babcock didn't screw around with the lines long enough to have those guys in the top 6, I would have no choice to stand up in the middle of the Joe and let everyone take a look at my pants tent that is a direct result of those lines destroying the other team.

Do NOT play Cleary with Datsyuk and Filppula.

#2325723 Nyquist vs. Brunner

Posted by wingfan91 on 17 August 2012 - 05:18 PM

Brunner has the potential with that filthy wrister to put up 25+ goals this season if he adjusts well and plays on the 1st or 2nd with Pav or Hank. Nyquist, in my opinion, is, as you said, a puck possession player. He is almost unsettlingly calm with the puck in traffic for a kid who's played 18 NHL games. He has that Datsyuk sense where he's able to hold on to the puck just long enough for someone to get free. I could definitely see Nyquist putting up 60(12-18 goals/42-48 assists) points this season if he plays mostly top six minutes, his chemistry with Pav was superb for a rookie, unfortunately he's not shoot first.

#2294803 What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

Posted by Bring Back The Bruise Bros on 20 April 2012 - 10:18 PM

Biggest thing I noticed about this game was the complete lack of hitting. WTF?

Dude, how many times do I need to tell you? Hitting and grit has no effect whatsoever on playoff success.

In all seriousness, people with an objective view on this team saw this s*** coming a mile away. Can't dress a ballerina team full of floaters and expect to do anything in the playoffs.
