#2544952 Weiss sent down to GR- conditioning assignment

Posted by Nyquistfan14 on 29 October 2014 - 07:48 AM

I agree with much of what you're saying, however, I do believe, in Weiss' case, that it is a good idea to play a couple games down in the minors to get his game going after missing as much time as he has. I expect he will average around 18 minutes or so down in GR over the two games playing in a top 2 line role with similar skilled players he has played with in Detroit. I think it will benefit him to play substantial minutes with the Griffins, against slightly lesser competition, rather than playing 8 minutes in a third line role with the Wings. Confidence is huge in any sport, and if he can feel good about himself after a couple games with the Griffins, I think that will get his game going with the Wings. The key in my opinion is that after this conditioning stint in the minors, Babcock needs to give him in a top 6 role with linemates he can actual play with. There is no point in relegating him to the third right away again, let the guy play his game...

I agree with this completely. Build up his game conditioning and confidence in the minors for two games, then get him up playing top 6 and pp with guys like Gus and Tatar

#2538509 Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?

Ya I don't understand how Weiss isn't in. He's a good player and should be playing with top 6 talent. Big mistake

#2534146 Alfie wants to play

To be honest, a lot of this Alfredsson or Jurco talk is starting to piss me off... The real issue here in my opinion is, we need to get rid of Andersson so we don't lose a kid like Callahan on waivers and we need to get rid of Kindl so we have room for one of the kids...
Alfredsson should be on the team if he and the team feel he's fit to play. Beneficial to the team this season without hurting the team in the future...
Jurco should be sent down to start the season in the minors. He needs more seasoning in the minors, getting top line minutes and playing in all situations...
Andersson should be waived. He has been passed on the depth chart by too many guys to crack the lineup...
Callahan should be on the 23 man roster to start the season. He has earned his chance to crack the lineup and would be a welcomed physical presence on the 4th line...
Kindl should be traded for a mid to late round draft pick to make room for one of the kids...
One of Ouellet / Sproul / Marchenko / Backman should be on the 23 man roster to start the season...

I agree with everything except that jurco should be in the minors. Jurco has earned his place in the lineup and should be starting the season on the kid line with sheahan and Tatar. I don't understand how people don't see this. On many nights this was our best line and at times dominated the opposition. Now think what they can do against 3rd lines and 3rd line d-pairings

The kid line has more chemistry than anybody on our team with the exception being pav and z. Play them together.

As for alfy he should be signed and id really like to see him play with pav and z as he has the hockey iq, skill, and most importantly shot to play well with them and finish their setups.

The real problem is the signing of cleary as all of his money could be going to alfy instead. As well he is blocking a guy like Callahan from being up with the big club

You keep talking about injuries but we've been healthy in the playoffs every year except this one.  Why are you so sure it's injuries when we've had the same result for since 2010 without any significant injuries?

Maybe because this years team is a heck of a lot better than those teams up front. Were loaded with talent up front.

D, z, mule, alfy, Nyq, Tatar, Weiss, sheahan, jurco, helm, Abby, etc. I'd say we have one of the best forward corpse in the league. Way better than 2 years ago when we lost in 7 to Chicago who we should have beat.

I don't know though.  I mean, I hear what you're saying.  But I guess my whole point is that I think we need a whole different look up front.  Personally, I hate the idea of Alfie with Dats and Z.  I don't think he can play that many minutes first of all.  He faded fast down the stretch.  But he's also a perimeter player and so are they.  None of them are big or play great in the crease.  They're also all getting a little old and injury prone.  I definitely don't want my whole top line to come with that many question marks.  Personally, I'd like to see Jurco with Dats and Z, and Mantha with Tatar and Sheahan.
Will it happen?  No.  And IMO we'll be worse for it.

I guess I agree to an extent on the fact that there is no crease crasher, but I also don't like bogging pav and z down with a guy like Abby cause he's a crease crasher.

I only remember one game in which alfy played with pav and z and that was early in the season against Colorado. They simply dominated. I believe he's a good fit for many reasons 1) he's a righty 2) has the ability to finish of the eurotwins setups 3) thinks the game on the same level as those two.

I don't think pace is a huge issue as it's not like dats and z are burners either. If he does have trouble playing those top minutes you can always move jurco, or Tatar up while moving alfy down to the 3rd line. That's my honest opinion

As a reference look at the two kids and a goat line that used to be so damn effective it didn't have a real net front presence but they were still amazing.
