You shouldn't be able to pick #1 2 years in a row or more. I think it's BS that teams get good from consecutive number 1 overall picks (see the penguins).

#2281021 The problem with our bottom six

Posted by Nyquistfan14 on 10 April 2012 - 06:04 PM

If Cleary and Helm were healthy, I actually like the 3rd line. They were playing great mid-season, along with Miller.

It's the 4th line that's the problem. That's what has no identity with guys just thrown together.

I've been thinking for a few days that a lineup like this would solveour bottom six and create more balance 1 through 12.

Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Holmstrom
Franzen- Filppula- Bertuzzi
Hudler- Helm- Nyquist
Miller- Abdelkader- Cleary/Conner/Mursak/Sheahan(unlikely)

Im not sure, I like that lineup as it adds more depth and identity to our team. If Homer can play anywhere it's with Pav and Z so I believe in that line to be a dominant 1st line. Second line has question marks because of Mule, but if he's playoff Mule then him and Fil can bring very big contributions (thinking 08). Third line to me is scary with the skill and speed and chances that will be created. Fourth line very solid and very responsible defensively with the ability to chip in offensively.

Maybe this is a bad lineup im not sure, this is just what I would do if I was Mike Babcock

Just imagine a lineup with Eaves back in:

That has some good balance in my eyes. Homer can still be effective on the top line if its creating space for Z and Dats. Every line has an identity.

Awesome lineup. So much identity and purpose to that lineup! I also agree with Homer being able to be affective with the twins. I want that line together.

seriously need Eaves. I have noticed this as the season ended.

So true the guy brought everything to the table. Speed, skill, shot, tenacity, and most importantly HEART! The guy is a warrior and a terrific bottom six forward

I feel a major issue with this team is the way our bottom six is put together. With the bottom six looking something along the lines of;

Miller- Helm/Abby- Cleary
Holmstom- Abby/Emmerton- Nyquist

I feel that this bottom six has absolutely no identity to it. Its just 6 guys thrown together. To me this is a huge issue for us as the NHL is so tight nowadays that a bottom six forward group can make the difference between winning and losing a series.

What are your thoughts on how we should compose our bottom six/ 3rd and 4th lines?

My perfect offseason roster would look something like this....

Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m)
Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)
Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m)
Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Kris Draper ($0.800m)
Wojtek Wolski ($1.100m)/ Patrik Eaves or Chris Drury ($1.100m)

Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m)
Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.000m)
James Wisniewski ($4.500m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($5.000m)
Doug Janik ($0.512m)

Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Chris Osgood ($0.800m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $62,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $58,971,211; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $1,028,789

My forward lines would look like this...

With Drury

Filppula- Datsyuk- Holmstrom
Franzen- Zetterberg- Wolski
Cleary- Drury- Hudler
Bertuzzi- Helm- Abdelkader

With Eaves

Filppula- Datsyuk- Holmstrom
Franzen- Zetterberg- Wolski
Cleary- Helm- Hudler
Bertuzzi- Abdelkader- Eaves

With this we would still address the back end obviously with Wis and Ehrhoff that will help huge to solidify our team. What do you guys think?

#2180091 Kris Draper

Posted by Nyquistfan14 on 26 May 2011 - 06:12 PM

Name ONE THING that Draper has done in the playoffs the past two seasons that makes him "valuable". Besides his faceoff percentage, which is above average at best, and his speed... which has been declining steadily.

He was very valuable in these playoffs , i felt that when we changed him for miller in game 3 are 4th line had so much more jump. Like you said he's good at faceoffs, i really disagree that his speed is declining the guy can still fly, muck it up in the corners, plays hard every shift, can Pk (even though he doesn't much). And he plays great with both helm and eaves. i absolutely love that line. He deserves to be here, and on the plus side he will be cheap. TBH i would rather have him then miller as i believe he brings more energy to the table.
