#2292091 How do we fix this?

I'm very open to trading Filpulla and Franzen at this point in time. With Filpulla's breakout season, he'll be worth more than usual and Franzen needs to find a new team to put a spark in his lazy play. They are both still worth a fair bit.

Side-note: Anyone else like the Klein dude on Nashville? He's been their best defensemen all series.

Franzen hell yes. Filppula no. Fil is gonna be a Wing for his career IMO. He's only going to get better and more confident as he is hitting his prime right now. Keep Filppula. Trade Franzen.

#2291956 The "Age" factor has finally caught up!

I don't disagree with you wingsfan4795 but isn't it kind of sad to see Cleary or Bertuzzi being the best options for our second line ...

* Been watching the wings for about 15-20 years now and this is the worst shape I've ever seen them in.

They aren't the best options. Babcock is just too stupid to realize that since Nyquist has been up, this team is at it's best when he is playing with Datsyuk. It is right in front of you Babcock. Datsyuk+ Nyquist= Duh!!!!

Step by Step. 22.6 mill in cap space for 15/23 man roster

1) trade Franzen, Kindl, Emmerton for picks and prospects. Leaving us with roughly 28 mill with 12/23 spots taken

2) Throw Nyquist, Smith, and Mursak on the team leaving us with roughly 25.7 mill in cap space with 15/23 spots taken

3) Resign Helm and Andelkader. Helm 3 or 4 years for 1.75 a year. Abby 3 year 1.2. 22.75 in cap space for 17/23 spots taken.

4) Sign Suter, Parise, and Semin for a total of 19 million. Leaving 3.75 in space with 20/23 spots taken.

5) Sign Konopka and another fourth line physical player for cheap say 1.8 or so for both. Leaving 1.95 in space with 22/23 spots taken.

6) Sign a physical bruising d-man for around 1-1.2. Leaving 750,000- 950,000 in space with a full roster.

Nyquist- Datsyuk- Semin
Filppula- Zetterberg- Parise
Abdelkader- Helm- Eaves
Cleary- Konopka- 4th liner/ bertuzzi/ mursak

Suter- Big E
Kronwall- Smith
Quincey- White

Physical bruising d-man

Howard

#2291931 Too many damn pretty boys

Posted by Nyquistfan14 on 18 April 2012 - 12:34 AM

There are way too many damn pretty boys trying to finesse themselves around the ice on this wings team. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are the most capable but aren't playing the perimeter. Meanwhile, Hudler and Filpulla havent cut int the middle of the ice or crashed the net yet it seems. Theres a reason Rinne can get this many shots and not allow any goals.

Having skilled guys and all is nice but there needs to be a mix. The best line for the wings has been Cleary and Abdelkader because they actually muck, grind and play playoff style hockey. They've crashed the net and generated chances. I cant believe how many weak outside shots I've seen Filppula take but its embarrassing almost.

This team needs grittier scorers. A not broken down Cleary would be a great start, maybe find a guy to replace an aging Homer as well. That gritty Maltby, Mccarty type playoff scoring is lacking from this team. People say that a 4th line barely matters, but having a fourth line getting all over the goalie is what this team needs. This team is just not greasy enough. Parise is a greasy goal scorer and would be a perfect start

This change starts with getting Hudler outta here. Cool he scored 25 goals, but so would a lot of guys given his linemates and ice time. He's soft and small, even if he crashes the net he does nothing cause he gets manhandled. UFA at years end

Replacing Holmstrom with a guy that plays his style of game is also critical. Trying to find a guy like Hornqvist would be huge for this team. Ryan Jones would be nice. He can score around 20 goals but plays a bit like Homer or Cleary as well.

Hopefully getting some of the bigger guys drafted lately into the line up will help. Sheahan doesnt seem that far off and is a big body that is capable of banging around the net and playing that style. This team needs to get some new garbage men. Babcock must be ready to rip his hair out watchign these guys dance around the outside while Rinne eats up everything.

I agree with all of this. Team needs to get greasier and tougher to play against. Lose Homer, Hudler, and Franzen up front. Bring in Parise, Semin, and a couple greasy 4th liners. Have D, Z, Fil, parise, Semin, and Nyquist in as your top six. Use Helm, Abby, Eaves, Cleary, and a couple of Prust/ Konopka/ Jones/ Hendricks/ others like that (too tired to see who are UFA's) as your bottom six. Have high end skill in the top six then throw energy, speed, and bangers and crashers in the bottom six to punish other teams.

#2291838 What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

Posted by Nyquistfan14 on 17 April 2012 - 11:13 PM

If it doesn't include shipping Franzen out of town then his plan sucks.

Yes Franzen needs to go! Completely useless

I don't think we'll see anything major. This is still a great team with a chance at another cup, but with Hudler, Stuart, and Holmstrom gone, I can see Smith up full time and Parise signed. If we sign Parise, I can see Nyquist playing full time and somehow getting rid of Franzen to make room for him. I think all we need is a consistent 35-40 goal scorer.

If Lidstrom retires, we'll have more cap room. I'm good either way if he's back or calls it a career.

Z and Filp are going no where, I'm surprised people want to see them traded .

Sometimes first round exits, in the long run, are a good thing.

I want Parise and Semin. One for Pav and one for Z haha. Get ride of that disgusting thing we call the Mule. What a waste

Nashville played a great game. Could have been a lot worse. Looking forward to the next game.

I disagree. We deserved that game

a punch would be fine in my book. but when you grab someones head and push it into the glass its crossing the line.

Ya if thats not a suspension then I'm giving up on the NHL. Huge joke. So inconsistent with penalties. God I'm so frustrated with the bounces and the BS we deserved better tonight! Preds literally had 2 chances in the third, but yet again it seems like every single mistake we make ends up in our net, while we dominate like crazy and there goalie makes miraculous saves. As well as d-men blocking open nets when there not even looking. With that said I loved the Wings game and have ever bit of confidence if the play like they did tonight they will win game 2 and will win this series. (Very happy with Abby and Cleary tonight)

#2281060 Blue Jackets lose lottery

Posted by Nyquistfan14 on 10 April 2012 - 07:31 PM

You shouldn't be able to pick #1 2 years in a row or more. I think it's BS that teams get good from consecutive number 1 overall picks (see the penguins).

#2281021 The problem with our bottom six

Posted by Nyquistfan14 on 10 April 2012 - 06:04 PM

If Cleary and Helm were healthy, I actually like the 3rd line. They were playing great mid-season, along with Miller.

It's the 4th line that's the problem. That's what has no identity with guys just thrown together.

I've been thinking for a few days that a lineup like this would solveour bottom six and create more balance 1 through 12.

Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Holmstrom
Franzen- Filppula- Bertuzzi
Hudler- Helm- Nyquist
Miller- Abdelkader- Cleary/Conner/Mursak/Sheahan(unlikely)

Im not sure, I like that lineup as it adds more depth and identity to our team. If Homer can play anywhere it's with Pav and Z so I believe in that line to be a dominant 1st line. Second line has question marks because of Mule, but if he's playoff Mule then him and Fil can bring very big contributions (thinking 08). Third line to me is scary with the skill and speed and chances that will be created. Fourth line very solid and very responsible defensively with the ability to chip in offensively.

Maybe this is a bad lineup im not sure, this is just what I would do if I was Mike Babcock

Just imagine a lineup with Eaves back in:

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Hudler-Filppula-Franzen
Cleary-Helm-Bertuzzi
Miller-Abdelkader-Eaves

That has some good balance in my eyes. Homer can still be effective on the top line if its creating space for Z and Dats. Every line has an identity.

Awesome lineup. So much identity and purpose to that lineup! I also agree with Homer being able to be affective with the twins. I want that line together.

seriously need Eaves. I have noticed this as the season ended.

So true the guy brought everything to the table. Speed, skill, shot, tenacity, and most importantly HEART! The guy is a warrior and a terrific bottom six forward
