#2359184 How much of the current trouble is attributable to injuries?

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 21 February 2013 - 10:56 PM

If not for injuries, we'd finish as a 5-8 seed and lose in the first round.

Thanks to these injuries, we're unlikely to make the playoffs if the injury bug keeps up.

#2352868 Mrazek To Start Tonight

Posted by chances14 on 08 February 2013 - 02:58 AM

While mrazek did well tonight, lets not jump the gun.

Jimmy Howard won his first career game but it was an uphill climb for a few years after that. Lets see what happens when the defense isn't playing well and mrazek has to stop several good scoring chances.

Bottom six has to start scoring for us to be successful this season. Almost 10 games in and we have 1 point from our bottom six. Pathetic.

This illustrates the fact that we have become too reliant on plugs. I hate to sound like I am part of the negative parade, but Cleary is like Scott Gomez out there. It sucks to bench a guy who is trying hard, but Babcock needs to be realistic.

Out bottom 6 lacks an identity, and this team doesn't have lines. It's a problem. For six spots on the bottom two lines we have:

Cleary, Helm, Abdelkader, Miller, Eaves, Tootoo, Emmerton, Nyquist, Sammy. Most play similar styles. Get rid of Cleary and Emmerton, drop one of Miller or Eaves (I hate to say it, its nothing against them, but they've always been similar on what they bring to the team) and bring in a faceoff specialist.

And Babcock is pretty bad at assembling lines. Datsyuk and Bertuzzi should never be separated, neither should Franzen and Zetterberg. Those lines are tge closest to having a reliable identity.

Flip is a goner, I think. He nets us a decent return. Not ideal, but he's the only roster player we have who anyone might want and who we could find a way to survive without.

#2344475 Red Wings sign D Kent Huskins to 1-year, $750k contract

Posted by shoobiedoobin on 22 January 2013 - 12:42 PM

It's amazing how cynical some people are even admitting that they know nothing about him. I drafted lots of Ducks and Sharks in fantasy hockey over the years and got to watch a good chunk of his games and he's not fast, he's not super offensively skilled but he's very solid in his own end and won't make a ton of mistakes. And for a bottom pairing guy that's what we should be looking for right now. We've got enough offensive defensemen and you don't need more of them on the third pairing. Third pairing should just be able to go out for 15 minutes a night, stay at home and not make any mistakes. He's not lazy, either. He's pretty intense and works very hard.

But he's big and that means he has to hit for us or we hate him.

#2339466 Johan Franzen - Once and For All

It would be absurd even if we didn't owe him 22 million dollars. His production for his price is a steal.

Leave that out tho. Cuz some people think its better to cut your best goal scorer and proven playoff producer in favor of a guy who plays with one hand on his stick and gets pushed to the boards despite being bigger than everyone else. Same people who thought Fedorov was worthless even tho he was our best forward for 10 straight years.

Actually, you would be hard pressed to find someone who thinks Franzen and Fedorov should even be mentioned in the same sentence. Franzen could not and will never be good enough to even sniff Sergei's sock hat...One can argue that if Fedorov is not on our team for those 10 years, we may still be in a Stanley Cup drought, that same can NEVER EVER be said about twinkle toes Franzine...

Franzen should be traded. And speaking of comparng him with Hossa, sure Hossa may get pushed around easily, but Franzen is like a bowl a jelly as well and when the going gets tough he turtles. Oh sure, he can pick on a teenager and throw his mouthgaurd out, but when someone challenges him, he is no more tough than Hossa...they are both soft.

Hossa is better than Franzen...period. Franzen will never be Fedorov.

If the Wings make it the 3rd round, I will consider that a good benchmark for a "deep run". Anything less is an early exit.

At this rate, we'll be lucky if we win 1 round.

Babcock sounds like a middle school basketball coach after a practice game.

Call thef****** team out, or get the f*** out. Grow a pair of nuts.

Hudler sucks.

He is way to weak on the boards.

He is small in size.

He looks azn.

This thread is hurting my eyes because I see Hudler talked about too much.

Oh and if you want to f**k Hudler just say so, but yea, don't try to justify it by saying he can play hockey.

K bye

I'm not racist. Some of my best friends are asian. But not many asians play hockey. It was a non-racist joke my friend. Lets loosen up a little bit. The world doesn't revolve around you and hudler.

Just because you (allegedly) have friends who are Asian doesn't make you not racist. You listed a few things; outside of his appearance it was all either simply not liking the player or not liking the thread BECAUSE of the player.

sudo make me a sandwich. :D

And to stay on topic, I think an interesting shake-up would be to call up a bunch of Griffins players and bench guys like Hudler, Bert, Mule and hell, maybe even Zetterberg for a game. Although I don't know how that would work with the cap, roster limits, etc.

The roster limit is 23. After sending down Brunnstrom, the Wings were at 22, hence Nyquist. Nyquist was sent down, and Smith was subsequently brought up.

so your strategy for beating the sharks is to hope that 2 of their really good players get injured?
