I really think once we have a full season next year we will see Gus make the team or have a very good chance to attempt to make the team. With a short season and no real training camp I think they made the smart move to keep him in GR.
I hope he goes elsewhere if he gets more money. If we are going to pay 5 mil for a goalie, we are not going to be able to afford an upgrade at #1 D and #1 Sniper. We need those desperately.
It depends how much Howard wants. With the way he's been playing as of late I'd let him walk unless he wanted less than $3 million per year.
Even though I am from Chicago I will be sticking with the Wings. I have rooted for the Wings since 1997 and I will continue to. I HATE the Hawks by the way.
Tootoo wasn't given an offer by Nashville, which was a forgone conclusion after his temper tantrum in round 1. He didn't have any offers on the table when he signed with Detroit, though his agent said he was expecting another unnamed team to make a "sizable" offer.
That being said, I think he's a solid 4th line acquisition for Detroit
I don't think Tootoo was a bad signing. Yes I know he had some "issues" but I think a new environment will do wonders for him. He brings the toughness we need.
An offer sheet was the only chance we had of getting Weber. I'm sure I don't know a whole lot about how the whole front office thing works but I'd be willing to bet there was no chance in hell that Poile was trading Weber to us. I'm hoping Kenny would be smart enough to realize that as well. I understand he doesn't like the whole idea of signing other team's RFA's but I feel like if there was ever a time to go for broke and do it, this was it.
Most of them when you get a guy like Weber as a RFA most teams would "Go For Broke" to try and get them. I would have like to have seen Kenny send an offer sheet.
I actually like the idea of signing Vandermeer. Would it replace Lidstrom? NO! But it would get the job done for this up coming season until we can make a run for Weber.
Here's my reaction to him and Smauelsson. Something has GOT to be brewing in the trade department. I don't think we'll land Parise (I will be stunned if we do) so we are going to need a top 6 Forward. I am wondering if a Nash or Ryan trade is in the works. I still think we get Suter.
There is a lot of fear on this board that Holland will do little to nothing on the 1st, on the second he will say to Khan or St James 'I explored the options, there was nothing to my liking/too expensive, I will wait until later in the month to sign bargain bin players'. This will be followed by signing a couple meh players, and Holland saying 'I think this team is competitive and I like our odds, and I have cap space to use at the deadline to fix any holes'. The final act of this play would be 'well I explored all the options and the NHL is just so competitive that all the players I wanted were too expensive' and quickly followed by 'When X player gets off the DL that will be our deadline'.
No I think Kenny knows his rear is on the hot seat and knows he has to actually do something.
