I don't just downright dislike any teams, but the three below I won't feel sorry if they get eliminated.
Pitt - Obvious reasons.
Philadelphia - Nothing too much against the team, just don't like Philly fans in general.
Nashville - Nothing against the team either, or Weber and the incident (sucks that it happened obviously but after the 2nd/3rd game it was pretty much water under the bridge to me), 100% because of their fans. Razzing the goalie or the other team in game action, never really bugged me, but right after the game/series ended when they cheered you suck, that did it for me. They could be saying things that are plenty worse, it might be "just what they do", it's still a piss-poor thing to do. Celebrate without being a bunch of jackasses.
So, those three primarily, but in all likelihood whoever wins now probably won't make me lose sleep at night.
I was hoping for another "how to be a real fan" discussion. Because anyone that doesn't think a 5th seeded Red Wings team that is scuffling into the playoffs can win it all isn't worthy to be a part of the fan base.
Look, I'm all for supporting the team and always will be. I will attend the games and cheer on the Red Wings like always. That being said, you can be a realist and still be a loyal fan. I don't think the Red Wings are built to win the Stanley Cup this season. They probably have a shot if literally everything goes in their favor. If that makes me a negative nancy or a lesser fan to those that judge this type of thing, then that comes with the territory.
Everyone has an opinion and the great thing about LGW is being able to dicuss that with everyone. I don't want to come here and read nonstop about blind support for the Red Wings. I don't care if there are fans that predict the Wings to win it all -- you're entitled to that -- but just remember so is everyone else that disagrees.
Best time of the year is finally here. Go Red Wings!
Pretty much it. I'm the last thing from being a person that goes ZOMG PLAYER ABC sucks and ZOMG PLAYER XYZ is worthless or just obsessively hates players or panics like the sky is falling and I'm going to kill myself and this team is beyond repair. That's beyond aggravating like the poster below you said. However the holier than thou people aggravate me just as much if you can't be even a shred of negative in a realistic way like you said.
Can the Wings advance this series? Yes they can.
Do I think they will? No.
Do I want them to prove me wrong? Without question.
Does any of this above make me any less of a fan? No, and nobody better suggest to me otherwise because I don't want to hear it and you are likely going to be full of b.s.
I'm going to watch every game rooting for them to pull through hoping that I am incorrect. And if I'm not, am I going to come on here and tell people I told you so? Absolutely not, that's not my style and it's pretty much acting like an a**hole there.
Hopefully the holier than thou cheerleaders on here will do the same if they win and advance - keeping their mouths shut and getting over any ego they might have.
Pretty much how I feel as well. I just don't see it right now with their inconsistency at present. Would love the Wings to prove me wrong obviously and I'm going to watch every game hoping they win.
DISCLAIMER...I'm not saying or going to say so and so sucks, this team is f'ed beyond repair in an angry doomsday scenario. That's not my style. If the above isn't good enough for some of you or I'm not a real fan because of the above, well I'm not really all that sorry and you can kiss my a** for all I care.
Yea here we go again not having home ice advantage and thus being down in a 0-2 hole after games 1 & 2! Just our luck it will be the Sharks getting the #3 spot by leap frogging the Coyotes if they lose today! So yea I want a Cup and Kenny Holland has to get me that Cup at whatever cost necessary e.g. trades, free agent, bounties etc.!
Can you predict who my wife will be since you know the future so well?
Every fan base will have their over the top idiots and a'holes. The Wings are no exception to the rule, the Blackhawks are no exception to the rule, Canucks fans for example with the riots after the SCF are no exception to the rule either.
Blackhawk fans certainly didn't endear themselves when a majority of them disrespected one of their franchise's best players in a ceremony last season just because he played for a rival team and that rival team happened to play that evening.
To also compare/contrast, down here with the recent bounty scandal for the New Orleans Saints, fans are obviously upset at the length of suspensions for coaches. Also, this past postseason we got eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers at their place and I read and heard of many reports that Saints fans who went to that game got treated with over the top disrespect (projectiles thrown at them, absurd verbal chants more than just fun ribbing, etc.). Not denying those stories aren't true, and a lot of Saints fans down here say they are above that behavior and oh so perfect and treat their opposing fans hospitable. While I generally agree with that and we are a typically friendly bunch, plenty Saints fans down here in general are nuts as well and if you cross them, they'll act just as over the top. The Super Bowl is down here this upcoming season and I would not want to be in the NFL Commisioner - who put these suspensions on the Saints staff - down here at that time. I'm not saying that Saints fans shouldn't be angry, but I can guarantee you he should be fearing for his safety with Saints fans around and Saints fans aren't always so nice. And no, I'm not one of those over the top people. I'll react or get excited/upset in the heat of the moment but I rarely like carrying on emotionally, happy or angry in a rant or rambling like fashion.
Point is there is going to be over-the-top knuckleheads that come in all shapes, sizes, ages and colors for the Wings, Hawks, 'Nucks, Saints, 49ers - pretty much every single fan base that you want to stay away from - no matter how much they might say they are better than other fans or behave great or whatever, but they rarely define the whole crowd.
I wouldn't mind matching up against Dallas. We've played well against them this year and it would mean I get to go to at least one playoff game.
Only 8-hour drive for me to Dallas so... (nah, wouldn't be able to go, I'm all but going up to there to the Metroplex in late September/early October, but I digress)
We ave indeed played well against them this year but I'm not one that never has been one to "wish" matches or seeds to get to a specific matchup. Not because I fear or disrespect teams, I don't fear or disrespect anybody. Just win as much as you can is simply my thoughts regarding this, and this season with the Wings being so dominant at home when healthy it is pretty important this year. Still holding out hope for #1/#2 but not holding my breath obviously with this recent slide. #4 would be find, guaranteed home ice for at least one round. And yes I get that the last two SCF game 7s have been won on the road.
Of those two - worse only because I am extremely fortunate to live a normal and non-dramatic life so far.
I don't like comparing lives to others though (not trying to give you a hard time for this obviously) or life being a competition to try to 1-up other people. I live my life and blessed to be able to enjoy my work pretty much every day as well as the rest of my life and pay my bills and that's fine for me regardless of income, relationship status, hobbies, whatever (and I'm definitely nowhere close to making a 6-figure income).
