This team has been getting hemmed in their own zone all night and it finally bit them in the ass.
Anaheim has been doing that set forecheck play (one guy left of jimmy, and 2nd guy 10 feet back on right) all series every time we have puck behind net getting ready to release and it seems like we barely ever break it... not to mention clear dump and chases where we usually lose puck for about 3 minutes as they goon forecheck cycle us with their gorilla forwards.
I am not even sure my blood pressure or heart can take a series against the Hawks anyway. And with how much announcers are mentioning Corey Perry not having a goal yet and being snake bitten every other breath every game of this series, I guarantee they are de-jinxing him as we speak for a game winner.
Can the Wings ever face a goalie in the playoffs who implodes and lets in like 4 or 5? Ever goalie we face in a playoff series ends up having the best series of their lives. Maybe its the Wings who just don't have super scorers like other teams and we shoot every puck into the guys chest.
You can through the angle out all day of protecting star players with no suspensions or minimal fines, I understand that, but Shanahan is in a position where it is all but impossible to please everybody 100% of the time.
The problem is he shouldn't have to please anybody, he should be 100% consistent (or his little band of merry men who come to the decisions) and they shouldn't listen to Bettman and his bulls*** stars have to be on the ice. It would be a lot better for the league if people understood what was going on, it was consistent, and there wasn't any one playing favorites. its even worse that it seems like he is harder on Detroit because he has to be to avoid looking like a homer... usually Detroit plays one of the cleaner games in the league, they have to or they'd be hit with suspensions left and right.
This is the same problem that I have with the NFL...defensive player goes to hit a receiver and the receiver crunches down to absorb the hit, effectively lowering their head and it ends up being an illegal hit. Defensive guys can't stop to think, oh is this guy going to shrink down before I hit them? I better aim for their ankle...
You aim for guys chest with a check and he looks down to grab a puck and bam, its a head shot and illegal and suspension. You can't take away the instinct of defensive players or you make the whole game different.
Ok I watched the Dan Boyle play in both NHL Top 10 goals and also the TSN Play of the year tourney... I don't understand what is so amazing about it. He goes end to end but only has to beat 1 guy and his team is on a damn 5 on 3, so no defender can really overcommit to try to stop him.
Pasha's end to end goes through every member of the other team finishing with 4 of them around him as he shoots. The two plays aren't even comparable nor should even be in the same list or tournament.
