#2338998 Zetterberg named Captain, 36th Captain in Red Wings History

Posted by Red Wings Addict on 10 January 2013 - 10:34 AM

Slighty off-topic, but does anyone know when Nick's number retirement ceremony will be?  Will they have it sometime this season, or wait until the start of next season in the fall?

Next season.

Should be pretty nice now that they have a lot of time to plan for it.

#2328926 Wings sign Carlo Colaiacovo to 2 year deal, $2.5m cap hit

Posted by Red Wings Addict on 15 September 2012 - 07:57 PM

So I'm thinking the way to remember how to spell his name is to break it down into three parts.

First C-O-L
Then A-I-A
and then C-O-V-O.

Kind of like remembering a phone number.  Do you need an unspectacular defenseman to strengthen your depth?  Call area code COL-AIA-COVO.

#2328834 2012 Lockout Watch

I feel a little uneasy in regards to how outspoken Zetterberg has been about all this, especially with his recent shot at Bettman.

All of a sudden Wings games have a referee rotation of only Dan O'Halloran, Denis LaRue and Brad Watson.

Then again I suppose Cheli has said worse.

#2325843 Red Wings player ratings for NHL 13

Posted by Red Wings Addict on 18 August 2012 - 02:10 PM

Oh cool... another year of me editing the overall rating of players ;)

Sometimes it's kind of fun to edit whether certain players fight or not.  For example, usually the programmers set Crosby's fighting frequency to "Never" so that when you try to challenge him to a fight he doesn't oblige.  If you set it to sometimes or always (or whatever it is) then you can activate an enforcer and pound on him all you want.

Hey, it's what video games are for, right?  So you can witness phenomena you don't normally see in real life.

I was kind of hoping it was Bettman who got hit.

#2324095 Red Wings Sign Jurco to Entry Level Contract

probably 2 to 4 years with the griffs for a guy of his caliber

Yeah.  At this point it seems he's closer to 2 than 4.

Get Sarah Jessica Parker to play Claude Lemieux.

#2320816 SI: Sidney Crosby to visit spine specialist in Calif.

From The Globe and Mail:

"Parted company" is very diplomatic.

Should Sid might as well have fired that guy himself?

"Docta no give me a elmo bandaid or woweepop..."

Hehe, I know the baby angle is old but it's still some silly fun once in a while.

#2320461 Does Babcock walk?

Posted by Red Wings Addict on 19 July 2012 - 03:48 PM

Not only can he walk but also chew massive collective amounts of gum at the same time as we've plainly seen him do so on the bench the past few years.  Apparently Big Red is his favorite; maybe because he has red hair.  He thinks that if he chews Big Red then it makes him feel like he's a Big Red in his own world, which gives him some confidence to be the Big Red coach of the Big Red Wings.

#2320107 Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet: 14y/$110m ($56m 1st 4yrs)

If ends up with the Flyers, you think he'll slam Crosby's head into the boards?

#2320014 Sheahan/Andersson

The theory is that if Abby plays at wing then he's more free to play a crash and bang style.

#2319938 Sheahan/Andersson

Posted by Red Wings Addict on 18 July 2012 - 08:11 PM

First of all, I thought they pretty much said Abdelkader will be the center on that 4th line during the Tootoo signing?

Second of all, they have too many forwards already.  Either they plan on making a trade or they're going to see if Emmerton can pass through waivers and be a vet in GR.

In regards to Anderson and Sheahan, from what I remember, Andersson still has some balance issues on the ice in addition to his skating problems in general.  I don't know how effective you can be if you have to keep picking yourself up off the ice.  And Sheahan is still a little too young for my liking.  It's still possible that they might go with one of these guys.  It'd be a nice breath of fresh air for all those who expect the overripe treatment.

Overall, even though I just stated they have too many forwards, my hope is that someone is still out there who they can sign as a quality 4th line center.  I don't have any idea as to who that may be though.
