Toronto Star reports "Babcock is leaning towards re-signing with the Detroit Red Wings on a short-term basis, a source told the Star."

Before the season: Success

At the trade deadline: Disappointing

#2585092 Cole to miss next 3 games

Dan Cleary will come in and be our best player in the playoffs.  He'll do it on heart alone.  Because that's what he does.  And while we won't win the Cup, the long playoff run will be exactly what Mike Babcock needs to become the highest paid coach in the NHL.  He'll enter next season at the top of the mountain, ready to bring his revolutionary new message to the team.

The message?

Try harder.  Try like Dan.

#2532747 'District Detroit': Red Wings' New Arena Details Released

Do we really need to keep rehashing the same joke over and over again?

No, we don't.  The next one will be dealt with swiftly.

#2531090 Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses

As a moderator here, I'm just glad the Wings didn't announce the re-signing of Quincey and Cleary on the same day.

#2530861 Red Wings Target Mike Green

Posted by LeftWinger on 09 July 2014 - 03:06 PM

The 4th into a 2nd doesn't sound too bad if he re-signs.  Although I sure would like to maybe add a player instead of that conditional pick...going to be a deep draft and having a 1st and 2nd next year will be like gold.

Dats-Deke...that's not too bad for Garrison, wonder if they would take our 4th, Ferraro and the rights to Almqvist...

How do people not see how special this Jurco kid is going to be? He has a much higher ceiling than Tatar and I would possibly even consider trading Nyquist before Jurco. Kid is going to be unreal.

He would absolutely be a great addition to the team, like everyone else is saying, as long as it doesn't cost us too much in assets. There is no way the Caps would get any of our top players or prospects, so no they would not be asking for Jurco. Green is on the last year of his contract, and is slightly overpaid in my opinion, and the Caps need to trim a player from their blue line and they need cap space to sign another decent forward. All of this is what makes the Caps (Green) a perfect trade partner for us. But then again, I'm sure there are a lot of other teams that may be thinking the same thing, so let's hope Holland can make a reasonable offer without giving up too much of the future...

#2530359 What's best for Mantha?

Posted by krsmith17 on 07 July 2014 - 09:34 AM

I think it is VERY unlikely Mantha makes the big club straight out of training camp. I would also be very surprised if he plays more than half a dozen games with the Wings this season. I hope he lights the AHL on fire, with 90+ points in 70 games but I don't see it. Even with all the size and skill he possesses, I see him struggling for the first month or so and finishing the season with a moderate 60 points in 70 games. Still not bad for a first year pro, but I think a lot of people are setting the bar too high for this guy before he even gets a glimpse of pro hockey. But of course, I hope he blows my expectations out of the water. :P

Funny we were all super disappointed we didn't land him last year and now Philly has to beg people to take him. I think Niskanen is going to be a similar story.

So would that prove that our GM is even worse than we fear, seeing as how he offered Niskanen a big contract?

Update from previous story: Holland still reportedly at Bell Tire kicking tires. The manager asked him to leave but he just continues to make grunting noises as he kicks. The police were called and Dan Cleary posted his bail. Dan was adamant that Holland be let go because "Holland promised me a top 6 forward spot next season". Holland is finally home and resting comfortably, ready to continue his summer vacation.

Witnesses reported hearing Holland screaming something along the lines of "I don't know why they're not coming here" as he was dragged to jail.

Holland reportedly will tee off at noon tomorrow.

So Buffalo requires nearly 2 full lines of prospects for an underachieving dman?

I took that as meaning "one of"

Dan Cleary

I see what you did there.  And I do not approve.

#2527524 It's too bad about us having Weiss...

Posted by krsmith17 on 01 July 2014 - 07:38 AM

It's not at all that I wouldn't want a second line center for around $6M or so per on a long term deal, because I absolutely would. However, I wouldn't want a third line center making $4.9M for the next 4 seasons. I would love to have a guy like Stastny but when we already have a capable number 2 center in Weiss. And yes, for all you naysayers, Weiss is very capable and he will show his worth this season when he puts up 55+ points.

Enough with the Franzen talk.

Do not post about Franzen (or Cleary for that matter) if it is not relevant to the topic at hand.
