Fun fact! Jonathan Drouin who was selected 3rd overall last year had 105 points in 49 games last season. Anthony Mantha has played 49 games so far this season and has how many points??....ding ding ding 105 points! This guy is going to go down as a steal at the 20th overall selection.
And to add to that this year Drouin is averaging 2.15 points per game, while Mantha is averaging 2.14. Doesn't mean it'll translate, but it's definitely worth getting excited over. Is anyone on here from the area and has seen him play recently or can give a first hand account of how his game is night in and night out?
The moment his voice cracks or its revealed that he's actually a girl his "Fans" will never be heard from again
I'm out of the loop of why he's hated so much, but the only time I've heard him sing was when he sang Let It Be live during some New York event, and it was awful. Though I'd imagine it'd be hard to sing any song well by McCartney.
But if anyone's wondering, The Heat was effing hilarious.
Edit: fwiw, from Kukla's Korner:
"The Wings do have offers out to all of their own three UFAs Valtteri Filppula, Daniel Cleary and Damien Brunner but all three are expected to cross into the free market Friday. Filppula is out of the picture for the Wings, anyway, because he believes himself to be a No. 1 center. Cleary is looking for a three-year contract around $3 million per season, and he has garnered interest from almost a dozen other teams. The Wings remain hopeful of working out a deal because Cleary rebounded from a slow start to have a great playoff stretch, he brings leadership and hes beloved by coach Mike Babcock. Likewise, Brunners camp has been contacted by several suitors, but the Wings remain hopeful of retaining his services, too."
I get Holland has not "screwed up" like many gm's making a horrible move. (thank god) But all you people defending him are just foolish. We have needed a top 6 forward for a while now and we have gotten nothing. Trade deadlines, free agency they come and go and we have gotten nothing. A great gm would find a way to do something and make it work. Now lets see if Holland actually does something... ( IMO, most likely will not)
My prediction as stated before is if we don't make any moves we will miss the playoffs. If we didn't have depth to replace Abby in the playoffs how on earth will we have depth to replace an injured Z or D for a period of time?
- Coach Babs must be pissed. We are no longer a top 6 forward away from competing for the cup. We are a top 6 forward away from making the playoffs......
Grading a teams draft is total B.S. I'm sure people thought we were crazy for taking a small forward from Russia and a small forward from Sweden in the late rounds and I think turned out pretty well. If Mantha becomes a star and any other pick even makes the team I'm happy.
But those were later picks. In later rounds, things become even harder to predict.
Earlier round picks are more scrutinized, hence Holland is getting some criticism with the guys he chose after Mantha.
