It's clear that Suter/Parise not signing here set us back 5-7 years.

Red Wings appear to be working the trade phones now to bolster their blueline. Lost out on Boyle, and apparently out on Niskanen.

Yay! Why get guys for free when we can give up talent and depth for them!

Report: Holland found at Bell Tire looking confused ...repeatedly kicking tires. The report further states he will continue to kick tires at Bell Tire until his meeting with Dan Ceary at 6.

Maybe we are saving Cap space to go after Lebron.

I just signed a contract: 6 beers over the next 3 hours to continue being a Red Wing fan.

Any combination of two: Niskanen, Boyle, Iglinla.... And I'm happy.

#2527564 It's too bad about us having Weiss...

Anyone here mentioning Filppula being a Stastny is ridiculous. The guy was nothing more than a 3rd line guy that couldn't take a hit nor throw one. I don't care if he scores 50 for Tampa cause he would never have scored 50 for us, ever.

You know he did score over 50 points for us right?

My impression is that Kenny understands the situation. We need a big name, and he's willing to go balls out for one, even if that means a trade. Stralman, Gilbert, et al. = Quincey II in his book, and he doesn't really want Quincey II. He wants a real difference-maker. And even if he doesn't, I've gotta think Babcock does.

I disagree on Stralman. Unlike Quincey he can actually play defense.

It just frustrates me how willing the Wings are to stay with the status quo and re-sign the same players when we aren't winning. I know it's a joke but I really am feeling like Kenny is phoning it in. I know, I know, he is kicking tires, but when nothing creative happens, and they just re-sign players that didn't work the first time, it makes me shake my head.

We are on the short lists for Boyle, Niskanen, and Iginla....3 of the top free agents. I would hardly say Holland is "phoning it in".

Just read on NHL trade rumors that Iginla has narrowed his list to four teams but the most likely landing spot is Detroit or Tampa

#2527502 Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Posted by Datsyukian-Deke on 01 July 2014 - 12:37 AM

Yeah, I don't mind Boyle as much as others, but I think I might like the idea of Niskanen and Stralman better...  but that would end up screwing our youth just a tad unless we move someone in the near future...

I prefer Boyle and Niskanen for that reason. Boyle can be gone in two years and make room for whoever excels most out of our defensive prospects. I know a lot of people on here think all of them are going to turn into NHL defensemen but the reality is we will be lucky to get one great one out of the bunch. That gives us Niskanen at least long term.
