Official Offseason Thread

16 June 2016 - 08:14 PM

We have an offseason thread dedicated to the Red Wings, this one can be used to discuss everything else going on throughout the league.

The Bickell / Teravainen trade has already been discussed in it's own thread but there's no need to start a new thread for every offseason trade or acquisition...

Arizona acquired negotiating rights to Alex Goligoski from Dallas for a 2016 5th round draft pick.

Pierre LeBrun - "Stars tried to re-sign the pending UFA but couldn't come to terms so they deal him before losing him for nada July 1"

Why is it that Holland NEVER makes deals like this? Goligoski is a much better defenseman than Quincey so there's probably not much of a market there, but maybe even a conditional 7th... Or what about if we don't bring Helm back (I still hope we do), we should definitely be able to get a 4th or 5th out of a team like Winnipeg for his rights... Why didn't we ever trade Filppula or Hudler's rights when we let them walk?

I love Holland but why is it that Nill can pull off trades like this but for whatever reason Holland is incapable?...

IIHF World Championships

07 May 2016 - 10:48 AM

Red Wings players in tournament...

Finland - Teemu Pulkkinen #56
Russia - Pavel Datsyuk #13 / Alexey Marchenko #53
Slovakia - Tomas Jurco #13
Sweden - Gustav Nyquist #14
USA - Dylan Larkin #21

SWE 2 vs. LAT 1 (OT)

Nyquist scored the game winner in overtime on a beautiful pick pocket in the offensive zone to give himself and Wennberg a 2-on-0, converting on the give-and-go. He also had 5 shots on goal and lead his team in time on ice (22:21).

USA 1 vs. CAN 5

Larkin was held of the score sheet but had 5 shots on goal and lead all forwards in time on ice (19:55).

CZE 3 vs RUS 0

Disappointing start to the tournament for the host team in a shutout loss. Datsyuk had 2 shots on goal.

FIN 6 vs. BLR 2

Pulkkinen had an assist and 2 shots on goal in 14:01 time on ice.
Non Red Wings related... Laine is a f***ing stud. I wouldn't be shocked if he's one of the best players in the tournament and THE best player in next year's draft class, including Matthews. He had 2 goals and an assist and 4 shots on goal in 13:31 time on ice.

SVK 4 vs. HUN 1

Jurco had a goal and an assist and 4 shots on goal in 14:17 time on ice. His goal ended up being the game winner on a nice tip in front of the net. He also had a beautiful assist on a spin move behind the net, to find Sekera wide open in front for an easy tap-in.

As far as I know, Ken Kal will have an audio stream again. Anyone know if the Pens will be streaming a video feed anywhere? I haven't seen anything yet...

I like this lineup a lot, but I do wish Blashill would get over this experiment with Glendening in the top 6. I'd much rather see Jurco up there. The only other thing I would change is switching Smith and Jensen...

2015-16 Prospect Watch

24 September 2015 - 09:42 PM

Title is self explanatory, but I figured this would be a good spot to keep tabs on all of our prospects either playing Junior, College or Europe. There's always a thread dedicated to Griffins prospects, but here we can keep tabs on the likes of Evgeny Svechnikov (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles - QMJHL), Adam Marsh (Saint John Sea Dogs - QMJHL), Vili Saarijarvi (Flint Firebirds - OHL), Dominic Turgeon (Portland Winterhawks - WHL) and Axel Holmstrom (Skelleftea AIK - SHL), among others...

Saarijarvi played his first game with the Firebirds tonight and he got one assist.

Holmstrom has played two games so far and also has one assist.

The player I'm most excited for is obviously Svechnikov, and I'll definitely be watching quite a few Screaming Eagles games this season.

Anyway, anyone with any updates, stats, highlights, insight, please post it here and I'll be doing the same.
