has us putting Eaves on LTIR and throwing Cleary somewhere (prob in one of the trades). we just have way too many forwards. Nyquist is traded. Abdelkader goes somewhere. I hate that we have Bertuzzi, he just doesn't fit ANYWHERE.

I think our best bet is to just load up on offense at this point because our defense is going to suck no matter what now.

man, that's the most unrealistic roster ever. I have no idea what we trade to get Ryan and Enstrom. We're so screwed.

I would rather have proven talent than potential.

Smith may do very well, but we all know Yandle has proven himself as a #1 defenseman, still has room to improve, and is an immediate replacement for when Lidstrom retires.

I would give away a prospect in a heartbeat for that.

This exactly, Yandle is only two years older than Smith also. It'd be a no-brainer.

Like I said before, if he somehow acquires Yandle, the Wings are instantly the favorites for the Cup again.

So why didn't we get him then? Holland is looking for a goaltender and Vokoun knows that Wings have only one goalie signed. Do you think Holland is stupid and doesn't know what's going around in the league? Vokoun wanted to sign for a team where he's the clear number one goalie.

Vokoun won't be the clear #1 goalie at all. He and Neuvirth will probably split exactly 50/50 and then whoever plays best gets the playoffs.

With that said, anyone getting all pissed off at Holland for not getting him is just ridiculous as usual. The Wings have committed to Howard as the starting goaltender for the near and distant future, and rightfully so.

Not saying it won't happen, but Ericsson hardly got a look at the PP last season.  Kindl even got more PP than E.  

Ericsson has a cannon apparently, but his windup is too slow and I wouldn't trust him out there at the point.  Of course, Kindl is pretty scary there too, but he at least gets his shot off quicker.

This is true, but I'm guessing this is one of the things that Holland Babcock were talking about when they said Ericsson was going to get an "increased role" this year and that they expect more points out of him. I see the pairings as probably Lidstrom - White and Kronwall - Ericsson on the PP.

Realistically what were you expecting?

How often does a defensmen like a young Keith Yandle become available? He's a franchise player, a player you build a team around....

Filpulla is a type of player you can find twice a year, if not more.

Kindl is a dman that got beat out by Salei...

Smith, while a good looking prospect, is just that, a prospect. He wasn't even the best defensemen on the Griffins', let alone the best player on the AHL Griffins. He has a ways to go before he can even crack the NHL.

You don't know anything about hockey, do you? Leafs fans, and especially Sharks fans LOVED having White. He's a very, very solid d-man and for this price, it's an absolute steal. Terrific signing, one of the best of the FA period considering how short the term is and how cheap the amount is.

REALLY? You're REALLY going to compare Holland to the team that has a payroll of 220 million dollars? Unbelievable. Anyone that has half a brain will tell you Holland is a better GM than Cashman, Cashman makes some HORRIBLE moves (AJ Burnett, Rafael Soriano, countless others).

Yeah, but four firsts might be the cost... Again, a cost I am willing to pay. Most everything we have on the team came without the use of first round picks.




Again, Would it is a different story if Kronwall said he wanted out of town.  His value falls too, and it isn't like these deals are McLeod and a pick.  We are talking 6+ players that will play in the NHL.  Most with upside that could make it a steal for them.  COULD... but isn't that the point of trading for futures, you HOPE it ends up being better for you.  

I think the point here is what could it hurt to offer a big package like that.  If they say no we are no worse for wear.

It doesn't matter if he wants out, you still have to make an offer that 28 other teams can't match. Giving up garbage like Abdelkader, Emmerton, Hudler, etc WILL NOT do that. That kind of package won't even get you Dennis Wideman.

As for Ferraro, I don't see why a 32nd overall pick would have no trade value...

He should be worth a first... I know it doesn't work like that, but combining two first like players, Emmerton and Ferraro- should be like a first round pick for sure.

Sheahan should be worth a first.  

Kindl should be worth a first.  

Failing that combining the two should be...

Hudler and two firsts on top of that should definitely at least make 4 first rounders worth of RFA trade value.

It doesn't matter where he was taken, his performance has been downright pitiful. He was benched on his WHL team. What does that tell you? He only has value to the Wings right now in hopes of him turning it around. You really need to put yourself in their shoes and think about the "value" you're trying to dump on them.

Kindl does also not have 1st round pick trade value.

Exactly. If Holland can somehow pull a miracle put of his ass, it's a different story. But given he's already stated he doesn't mind Ericsson in a top pair role indicates to me that the team we have is the team that will start the season.....in other words, we're screwed.

I guarantee you Holland doesn't leave 10m in cap space left unspent. Calm down. It's been one day. Do you really think Holland is going to openly say who he's going after? You don't announce these sort of things to the press.

The fact of the matter is the Wings team that got eliminated in second round twice in a row just lost their #2 defeseman. The same team that also had trouble scoring more than two goals a game against SJ (their defense isn't that great) did nothing to add some firepower to their second line.

I don't care what Holland's damn excuse is. When you lose your #2 guy, you HAVE to be aggressive. I don't care if that means handing out a rental player contract to get us by until the market has more to offer. Once again, he sat on his hands and said "meh".

At this point we'd be lucky to make the playoffs.

There's still hope if he gets up and somehow swings a deal for Yandle.

That's if he can't dump Hudler somehow, be great if he could since Mursak should really be in the lineup (I don't care about Abdelkader).

Gagne has scored 34 goals over the past two seasons combined. His days of prolific goal-scoring are over.



An average of 17 goals per season over the last two seasons, playing alongside at least one of Giroux, Richards, Stamkos and Lecavalier the vast majority of the time, and with ample time on the power play, does not equal "scoring a s*** ton." It equals narrowly edging out Patrick Eaves.



I think he'll get nowhere near what you're saying, because he's awfully injury-prone, has a history of awful concussions, and doesn't score all that much anymore.

All of you are vastly overblowing Gagne's ability at this stage of his career.

Just curious, and I'm not saying I want Gagne, but who DO you want the Red Wings to sign? I've been lurking here awhile now and I've seen you shoot down literally every player mentioned as a possible acquisition.  Who would you like?
