#2504406 The Edmonton Oilers Mystery

Posted by rking72 on 01 April 2014 - 04:41 PM

I think if Old Man Wirtz didn't pass away the Hawks would still be trash similar to Edmonton.  They went from the worst owner in professional sports to a competent owner(his son) who hired good people. These people made some smart and daring moves.  Even when the signing of Hossa put them in cap hell, they won a cup, got under the cap, developed young role players and won the cup again in 3 yrs.

As much as I hate to say it as a Wings fan living in the Chicago area, the Hawks are very well run and will be good for many years to come.

As a Wings fan stuck in Illinois nothing would make me more happy then a victory tonight!!  I think it would be even more awesome if we won in OT and the fans started singing Chelsea Dagger.

He seems to miss more than he is there.  I only listen for about a half hour on my way to work.  His partner(speigal) took him to task a little today.  I was kind of hoping Wings fans would fill up the phone lines today

I am glad that even after finally winning a Stanley Cup, Q still reverts back to his default setting when trouble hits from the Wings....Whining about officiating and thuggery

You mean the ex-Bronco lineman? Kinda fits. He played great. And one of the most physically flexible lineman I ever saw warm up. But personally, he turned out to be somewhat of a weirdo.

No he has never played professionally anywhere.  He is a career radio guy who has had a lot of issues holding jobs because of addiction and anger issues.  He probably is the most passionate hockey guy on the radio in Chicago and has been a fan for a lot longer then the last several years.

#2379822 Shocking, Wings aren't active as trade deadline expires

Posted by rking72 on 03 April 2013 - 05:44 PM

There are only a few ways to get players onto a hockey team.  Draft them, acquire them through free agency, pick them up off waivers, trade for them.  Only one of these options requires you lose something (RFA also I suppose, but that's still a rarity in this league).  The salary cap makes draft picks, prospects, and roster players that much more valuable, so trades are that much less desirable an option to collect players for your team.  I understand that its frustrating to get your hopes up every trade deadline expecting to land some star, but in today's hockey league its more important than ever to be economic.  That means developing your talent, holding onto your picks, and making big roster changes through free agency, not through trades.  Its boring, but its also a smart way to go.

I'm in the minority which believes Holland did not make a mistake this deadline by not making any moves.

again..fine.  But be a seller then.

Didn't the Pens make several other moves the year they added Hossa? Or am I remembering that wrong?

The Wings already have Bertuzzi and Holmstrom in the slow down the top lines role.
