Am I the only one who took this as some dry wit from Franzen? I thought he was implying Nyquist did not like Babcock. Franzen always seemed to have a pretty dry, sarcastic sense of humor in his interviews.
Realgud points everyone. I've been swayed and forced to change my vote again!
The major difference between Nyquist and Tatar is that Nyquist is a goose, and Tatar is a Mexican water bug.
Now the thing about geese is that some can lay golden eggs, like Gus did during the 13-14 season. However, to lay golden eggs, geese have to be loose. Hence the phrase "loosey goosey". Because geese are not always loose, a goose like Nyquist will be streakier from time to time.
Being a Mexican water bug, Tatar is obviously more lively and quick with the puck. But the main advantage of being a Mexican water bug is that it is a made-up insect that only exists inside the mind of Mickey Redmond. So basically the sky is the limit on Tatar's potential and what he will develop into. Don't ask me why Mickey's made-up bug is Mexican.
I know it's boring nerdy science stuff i got from a spread sheet, but the facts are there. Each has their strengths and weaknesses.
Lol at people saying 3 or 3.5 million, no way he gets anything under 4.5. Back to back near 30 goal seasons and back to back to back seasons of being one of the teams top scorers he's well worth 4.5+. We're lucky he's an RFA and not a UFA because there are teams out there that would offer 5+ easy.
Everyone in this thread has come to accustomed to Kenny and his lowball "market value" offers, fact is good players get paid and Goose is a good player.
Saad, age 22, 23G 29A 52 PTS - 6M
O'Rielly, age 24, 17G 38A 55 PTS - 7.5M
Kadri, age 24, 18G 21A 39 PTS - 4.1M
Nyquist, age 25 27G 27A 54 PTS- ???
O'Rielly and Saad being comparable to Gooses productivity and Kadri being slightly below Gooses productivity (Kadri's never scored more than 20) it's easy to say goose is a 4.5M+ player.
If you had to go to Free Agency to replace Gooses productivity it's going to cost 5 Million plus for a near 30 goal 50+ points scorer.
An offensive defenseman under 30 with a RH shot on a short term deal? Even if he does end up being subpar on the back end, it's really hard to find fault with this deal. When you consider what's out there (or what isn't out there) and the prices that those guys are demanding, kind of hard to find any negatives to it.
