#2568053 2015 Draft

Posted by number9 on 03 February 2015 - 05:31 PM

I have nailed the last 2 first round picks in mantha and larkin. Novek at 6-1/180 is who I think we would take if there as of today, and he is not a big body. Average size in todays game.

Yup, has is bass ackwards.

Pretty much everyone on LGW was zeroed in on Mantha during that draft. When we actually landed him, half this board looked like geniuses, especially after we traded down.

A lot of the same with Larkin. A lot of people around here wanted (and got) the Michigan boy.

Your selections are hardly unique

#2606143 Kronwall in the Playoffs

Posted by DickieDunn on 05 May 2015 - 04:38 PM

Of you don't think Kronwall is a #1, you have a very narrow definition of a #1 and think there are only 10-12 in the NHL. 210 defensemen in the league on active rosters at any given time, there aren't 20 guys better than him, putting him in the top 10%.

#2606084 Kronwall in the Playoffs

Posted by WingedWheel91 on 05 May 2015 - 09:29 AM

Can someone help me out here... What is the true meaning of a "#1 Defenseman"? By definition, there should be 30 "#1" Defensemen in the NHL, correct? The answer: It doesn't really matter.

This is because Defensemen play in pairs, they are tandems built based on chemistry and synergy that hopefully play greater than the sum of their parts. Based on definition, I think it would be foolish to say Nick Kronwall is not a top 30 Defenseman in the NHL, so yes, he's #1... But not an elite #1. The other question is, how can anyone honestly rank Defensemen? Points are only a small indication of Defensman's true value to a team... I watched all and (attended 2) of the Red Wings playoffs games this year and can tell you that Kronwall did as good a job at shutting down Steven Stamkos as anyone else, which is his primary responsibility.

The comparison to Nick Lidstrom is completely foolish, yet so often made. Lidstrom is arguably the best defenseman to ever play the game - Bobby Orr was revolutionary and of course had more offensive talent - but there isn't a Defensman in the history of the game to consistently do more for a team than Nick did, don't forget Bobby only played 9 real seasons in the league. To support that point even further, Lidstrom also played with Brian Rafalski for a good chunk of his career - where Kronwall has played mostly with Brad Stuart and Jonathon Ericsson, so its easy to see where a big disparity in point totals would come from.

I would define a true #1 Defenseman as a player who plays on the top pairing, against the other teams best, playing in all situations - contributing offensively (with a good first pass) while being responsible defensively (limiting turnovers) and demonstrates leadership to support the growth of others.

#2602744 Predictions: Game 7 vs. TBL

Game tied in last minute. Kucherov goes top shelf on Bishop. Then he climbs over the glass and sits in the second row, eating pizza stolen from the fan next to him. After the game he continues to insist he is alright after that Kronwall hit. Wings win.

#2577642 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Posted by wings_fanatic on 02 March 2015 - 02:16 PM

Why all the hate for Smith?! He has had a very good season and simply doesn't get PP time that he SHOULD get. The D pairings will be:

Kronners- E

D-Q

Smith- Zidlicky

#2565788 Stadium series Wings vs Avs 2016!

After they lose to the Pens in back to back Winter Classics and Edzo forsakes them by openly rooting for the Pens and calling out the Hawks for subtle interference.

#2565846 NHL Player Tracking System

Can it track a bad pass by a goalie?

#2565437 The Maple Leafs finally put a quality product on the ice...

Pretty cool, but a couple of things:

1)  I never want to see Kessel getting dressed.  Ever.  Under any circumstances.

2)  Please stop showing Phaneuf.  It's embarrassing enough he's on your team, let alone your captain.  You're better served not reminding anyone.

I wonder who'll be playing in the other 13 outdoor games

Because it's reasonable to assume that both those guys will play a full 82 games this season, or going forward?  I'm not skewing stats.  I'm going by their totals.  Neither of those two will ever play a full 82 games again.  So why would you go by their full season projections?

Because a per game estimate is a far better predictor of what they'll do in a single game than their recent season totals would suggest. You'd be correct if they were playing the emtire season together, but they're not.

#2547662 Strong Penalty Killing, Lack of Scoring the Story of 2014 So Far

Posted by jimmyemeryhunter on 06 November 2014 - 04:54 PM

Greetings! We were told you guys had a good debate of last week's Red Wings show so we wanted to tackle some of your comments on air this week: http://wp.me/p2LxGp-V9

Best,
Sports Radio Detroit

I have a few problems with what you say.
And I wouldn't call it being realistic.
My main issue is
Glendenning is not a 3/4 line guy.
He is a fourth line shut down grinder.
There is no wait and see approach on that, that is what he is.
But I did enjoy listening.

#2546457 Strong Penalty Killing, Lack of Scoring the Story of 2014 So Far

Posted by T.Low on 03 November 2014 - 05:03 PM

Boy, these guys don't know what they're talking about. Maybe they should watch some games before they comment
How are Nyquist, tatar, helm, Jurco, abdelkader, sheahan and Glendenning all the same type of player?
How is Nyquist not a scorer?
And Dekeyser is offensive? Haha

Well, atleast they made a good point about getting rid of Tatar for a guy who can come in and get 20-25 goals. I mean he only had 19 in 70 some games as a rookie, and only has 3 in 11 games so far which only projects out to...hmm, whaddya know, 20-25 in 82.
