    Babcock's after game comments

Worst record in the NHL in our last ten games, really great stuff heading into the playoffs D getting mauled in our own zone constantly taking too long to move the puck. Hopefully he gets what he is looking for moving nyquist up with pav and bert down with abby and cleary. However I will be surprised if he manages to get good checking out of any of his bottom two lines

What do you think needs to be done to fix the PP/PK

I agree with most of the others in saying that we go to the blue line too much on the power play and in a predictable fashion. As most of you have probably noticed most teams are pressuring our D on the power play more and more. I agree with what others have said, that our power play needs to cycle down low, and bring more creative movement. It seems as if the forwards are just setting up in their position on the outside of the pk diamond never freeing themselves up for the good pass or shot. I also think we need to be more creative with our man in front, instead of having someone park their can in front of the goalie and staying there we should cycle, timing our plays so that different players arrive in front of the goalie just before the shot. cycle, cycle, cycle find your opening then crash the net. Lately I have been cringing every time we get a powerplay! it seems we loose all our momentum every time we draw a penalty. I am happy with the PK

    Cleary, Bertuzzi, Hudler and Franzen

what upsets me most about huds, is that his slowness causes him to cheat constantly. He is always hooking and getting penalties in the offensive zone, I think like three the last two games. He goes into the corners out of position a lot and ends up trying to hook a guy that beat him to the puck, because he is not quick enough getting deep in the zone. I would hardly call this whining, I mean what the hell else are we supposed to talk about on this forum day in and day out? Conversations dealing with objective critique are interesting. Especially after a game where we only scored one goal. A coach of any team would be stupid to take a loss and not look at what went wrong? We are all back seat coaches here anyways If a good portion of your loses are usually attributed to the same mistakes or the same players creating those mistakes, then it is a very positive endeavor to discuss what parts of our team we would like to see improve. Why not? Because some people cannot view critique from and objective standpoint? It sounds like such an overly emotional response to call every discussion that is in anyway critical whining? That is probably the worst thing about this board, that every thread that asks critical questions automatically sees certain elements take offense and start plugging their ears and accusing everyone of whining and being ungrateful and unpatriotic towards our holy redwings.

    Cleary, Bertuzzi, Hudler and Franzen

So what about Cleary, Huds, Bertuzzi, Franzen? I am a fan of Bertuzzi, and have really admired Cleary's hard work in the past, and acknowledge Mule showing up in the playoffs, but lately it has just been very painful to watch these players give lackluster effort every night. I understand taking nights off during an 82 game season, but it seems as if these guys don't give their full effort a large percentage of the time. I especially hate having to see these players on our top lines (ok minus mule for now, and cleary when datsyuk returns). Does anybody feel like I do, when I think that these guys have just been lucky enough to slide by, benefiting from the hard working talent that surrounds them? I know franzen leads us in goals, cleary has but up good goal totals in the past, and hudler is getting good stats this year but it just seems that they benefit from the hard work of others while they coast into the zone looking for a rebound or a perfect pass. I can't remember when I last saw one of these guys take the puck in the zone work hard on the D and cycle down low like dats, fill, helm, and Z. I think Cleary, Bert, Huds, and Franzen zap our teams energy and replacing the four of them with just two harder working players with offensive upside would greatly benefit this team. Although I do think Bert has potential as a third or fourth liner if he increases his grit, but the rest are just to hard to watch on a nightly basis. Also Homer on the fourth line is not working out that great either. Whatever though, all these guys have the potential to play, and if they show up like they are capable of then we got a shot any day. So here is to hoping they decide to show up in the playoffs this year!

seriously why has our team become the most boring team to watch? ok i missed the first half of the san jose game, which mick kept saying was a great game, but the second half detroit showed very little effort and looked like they got man handled. It seems that we are the ones who are only able to win, during the opposing teams off nights, even if we dominate puck possession when we get in the zone we seldom have good chances at the net, or even come close to getting rebounds and second chances. Blah just such boring boring boring hockey, i find myself watching other hockey games during the week to make up for the lack of intensity in the detroit games

This team screams for a trade

I am not saying we should make a trade due to the 5-2 start, but we do need a trade. The wings to often seem slow and do not have the intensity that is needed for playoff style hockey. I love all of our players, but I think relying on players like fil, cleary, huds, bert (ok third line this year) on our top two lines, and players like miller, and holmstrom on our checking line is not going to work out well in the long run. We need more speed and intensity, to keep up.I am not saying to ditch all of these players, but replacing two of them would be good. But again this is not me saying the sky is falling due to our start, i have thought this since the last playoff series.

wow i am really surprised that eaves has seemingly lost a spot on our roster, i always thought he played well. Oh well what a great player to have as a backup, as long as he doesn't get to rusty riding the pine

Me too, in my opinion they have been one of our best lines. Really impressed with Big Berts hustle so far this year
