Beat reporter on Vancouver s Team 1040 phone interview this morning said the reason Edler did not go to Detroit last summer is because Gillis wanted Tatar, Sheahan, and Smith.
This is a good example of why Kenny says it's difficult to get hockey trades done. Sounds worse than dealing with jokers on Craigslist.
Also said Holmgren will really go after Kesler because Philly can't afford Pittsburgh getting him, they'll run through the East.
Pittsburgh wants to use Kesler as a 3c a la Jordan Stahl, I can't see the Diva in him content with 3c.
Wouldn't of done that deal either if I was holland
The Detroit Red Wings aren't planning on making any moves for high-priced rental players, but the team is still looking to acquire a top-four defenseman.
The Wings have inquired about Vancouver's Alexander Edler and Buffalo's Christian Ehrhoff, but appear to be focusing on Ehrhoff, at the moment.
TFP reported last Thursday that the Wings had been inquiring about Ehrhoff's availability, and on Monday, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reiterated Detroit's interest.
LeBrun, however, indicated that the Wings would not overpay to get Ehrhoff.
Red Wings GM Ken Holland has plenty of young assets he is willing to part with, but some players he prefers not to deal, such as Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar.
Holland has also spoken to the Vancouver Canucks about forward Ryan Kesler, who is expected to be dealt by Wednesday's 3pm ET trade deadline.
If holland did that I would rage quit hockey. You don't trade away our highest first rounder in forever for 2nd round picks when our prospect system doesn't need quantity but quality. We have loads of guys - we are looking for the best available at this point - hopefully a big C with top 6 potential.
Well all depends what happens on trade deadline ... If we don't make the playoffs lets say and get 12th overall and some team wants it for something like 24 and 33 I'd consider it
I trust Kenny and our scouts .... I just wish we could get rid of all these extra wastes of players for any picks .... For once Kenny is forced to get rid of guys and we can't even get picks , wouldn't care if we'd got 3 7th rounders for tootoo eaves Etc...
I'd just give them all to Andersson tell him to have fun
I'd like to add: our first-round pick should be in play. Or, if not in play, then at least "possibly available." If what I'm hearing is true and Kenny's categorically refusing to even consider moving our 1st...that's immensely stupid.
We're not the Sabres. We're not rebuilding. We're retooling (there's a difference), and we're doing so with a relatively deep prospect pool which has already given us Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, and Jurco. And DeKeyser would've gone in the first round had he been drafted, so he's basically a free first-round pick.
Just because dekeyser was a free first round pick doesn't mean we need to just give away our pick now .... There's still a chance we don't get In the playoffs so it would be High pick for us .... If we trade it way it should be for non rental player
I think a team would be stupid to give a 1st for Vanek without it being a conditional pick. In the end, Holland won't go for a rental. Wings landing Vanek would hinder on him singing long term. But it's already well known he wants to test the market. If he wants to play here, he'd come here this summer. No point giving up assets for him now.
Some team will give up a 1st round pick for vanek though .... Teams always do .... Minnesota gave up a ton last year for pominville for instance ..... And speaking of Minnesota the media's been saying for months vanek is gonna sign with them cause he has a home there and is good friends with pominville so it be a waste for us
Adding Kesler and Edler would greatly improve the team not only this year but for the next several. Tatar and Nyquist are good, but they're small. The picks and prospects may or may not develop. I wouldn't trade much for an old guy like St. Louis, or a pending ufa like Vanek or Stastny, but for guys in their prime who are signed after this year? You bet your sweet bippy I'd do it.
Thank god your not the gm ....
Kesler can walk in 2yrs .... I'd only get rid of all those prospects if we got a Tavares .... And as much as I wanna make the playoffs nothing is assured , stupid habs got lucky somehow and got 5 out of 6 pts , wish Beene picking up pts , Columbus Thx to bettman we been sitting and waiting till Tuesday .... Next few games are big
Don't wanna risk losing our first pick if we miss the playoffs , a few good players in the top 5
I'd go for Erhoff. Solidifies our top 4 and we can let Quincey walk in the offseason. Much needed offense that doesn't stop dead after the first pairing. Get him for cheap with that huge contract. We have a log jam of prospects ready to make jump to NHL with no room. Just makes too much sense
We also got a lot of good d prospects coming up soon (ouellet, sproul, backman, marchenko, almquist etc) and kronwall Ericsson dekeyser are locks to stay longterm ... Got kindl lashoff smith up now (I'm sure a few will be dealt) .... Just don't know if adding someone with a 7yr deal is a wise move
Adding a mark Stuart at the deadline might be better longterm and wouldn't cost as much
I don't see Holland including Helm in any kind of trade. This team doesn't really have anyone to replace his role and even if they got something similar back as part of a trade it's still hard to replace his speed. He has been plagued with injury problems but so was Kronwall for a good portion of the beginning of his NHL career and now he's been healthy for the most part. Personally, I would just stick with the forward group they have out there and hope that Zetterberg can make it back in time for the playoffs (assuming they make it in). A 3/4 defenseman is the most pressing need and I agree with everyone saying to pursue MacDonald from the Isles, if the price isn't too steep.
Ya I don't get why helm's name is being thrown around all of a sudden ... He's going nowhere at his best when he's healthy I'd say he's one of best 3rd line centers .... Tremendous speed great defensively can kill penalties , I'd say he's a type of player you need in the playoffs to win the cup
I'd say it's a safe bet holland and Babcock love him and unless he's demanding a 8 yr deal for 5 per type deal next contract I can see him here for many years to come
