Truth. The franchise is sitting in a very good position because of Holland and Babs. I just don't get the whole "needing a fresh face" when the roster has almost completely turned over in the last 3 years. It's not like it has been the same roster for 10 years. Also, after watching that TSN interview, it is sounding like he is leaning towards staying. Seems like he just wants to talk it over with family once he gets back from the World Championships.
If babs stays will I be upset? No ... I won't be in an uproar for him coming back ... My preference is we go a different route , preferably with jeff Blashill
My personal opinion is he's a good coach but overrated ... Those gold medals for me don't count as the teams were stacked full of all star players
From 2010-2015 we haven't done anything in the playoffs and we had hank and pav from ages 29-35? ... It's not like there career was done and over with
And as for the franchise sitting pretty I'd put that more on holland for not panicking and trading away top prospects and out scouting staff for always refilling the prospect pool with real good talent
I agree with this but his post was basically stating Sheahan is the superior player right now. Just had to set it straight that it's not the case.
The way I see it is Z can't center a line anymore. he needs to just focus on playing wing. Soderberg isn't some scrub, he's a useful NHL player that could help us in the 2nd line center spot imo, more so then Sheahan right now. With half decent linemates (he played 3rd line in Boston) I think he can get 50+ points and play a solid two way game.
This all depends on Salary and term but for 2-3 years at 4 - 4.5 million I don't see how you say no. Ship out Weiss and Anderson, LTIR Franzen. Sign Petry / Franson.
Z - D - Abby
Nyquist - Soderberg - Tatar
Pulk - Sheahan - Jurco / Helm
Miller - Glen - Jurco / Helm
The ? On the 4th line is if we could add a big bodied 4th liner who can just hit and bruise opponents that's what I'd love to add but I don't see it happening .... And I just noticed we both dont have Franzen , although his future is uncertain
Looking above I could totally see us trading nyquist in a trade for a top dman and we'd still be ok upfront and still have youth
The Detroit Red Wings first round pick in 2014 was one of the top players in the NCAA this season not named Jack Eichel. Playing for his hometown team, the University of Michigan Wolverines, Dylan Larkin and Zach Hyman formed a formidable scoring duo, combining for 101 points between them, with Larkin scoring 15 goals and adding 32 assists in 35 games. His strengths include his skating and playmaking abilities, assets which came to the forefront during the 2015 World Junior Championship, where Larkin led the Americans in scoring with five goals in five games. Larkin suited up for the United States during the IIHF World Championship, but is still eligible to play up to three more seasons in the NCAA. It is likely, however, that he plays no more than one more season.
Athanasiou and mantha will dominate together next season together ... Mantha just turned 20 , missed camp , coming into a new league ... People need to relax ... It's way too soon to say mantha is a bust and won't recover
You can teach someone how to play better defensively and commit to eating healthier and training but you can't teach someone to score
He bounces back ... in 2-4 yrs if the hockey gods smile upon us and they all reach there potential we can have a pulkkinen mantha athanasiou larkin bertuzzi holmstrom natasiuk in the lineup
And that's not even including nosek and outsiders like frk tvrdon if they get there s*** together .... If we have to trade someone to get a dman I'd rather part with a nyquist/Tatar then any of the 7 I mentioned
And jurco hasn't done much thus far but he's still 21-22 ... Think he needs to get more opportunities on the ppl and with better players, he's got too much talent to be a checker
If the best coach in the league agrees to sign with your team during an exclusive negotiating window, and you tell him, 'naw, let's hold off for a month so I don't have to give up a third round draft pick to get you,' dont you think that might make him reconsider his options?
I think we've all suspected Babcock would leave all season, so this isn't a surprise
If he returns I'll be happy, he's a good coach .... Another part of me thinks he's overrated and won't care if he goes either .... I mean when he went to the finals with us twice he had lidstrom and pav and hank in there prime, kronwall etc... And team canada was an all star team ... I do believe canada would of won with another coach
He leaves we get Blashill who might be on the verge of winning 2 calder cups , knows all our kids and prospects coming ... Seems like he may be pro rookies and give them a chance on the team and not make a jurco play a checking role let's say
Blashill or Babs I won't lose any sleep over who our coach is
Then we can all "shock" the hockey world yet again when a rookie coach leads us to the playoffs
As much as I wanna see larkin athanasiou mantha tearing it up in the nhl maybe it's best for larkin to stay for one more year? He's turning 19 in July , can play one year in the ahl and then nhl hopefully at 21?
You guys think he should go with Grand Rapids next year?
