#2302991 Excellent 'Parise and Suter to Detroit' article

Posted by Doc Holliday on 24 May 2012 - 11:31 AM

Your last sentence asks the right question. That was my point. In order to sign in Detroit, they would EACH have to take less than other Cup-pursuing teams would offer them SEPARATELY. I don't see that happening. Do you really think that Parise will be making less than Kovalchuk? Or for much shorter term? More likely, he'll be making more.
Realistically, the only way to sign both would be if Lidstrom retires and a couple of other larger contracts (e.g. Bertuzzi) are gotten rid of and replaced with min.salary players. And then the Wings will be against the cap, and where will the future raises for the RFAs come from then?

Parise and Suter could both make 7 million with us still below the cap ceiling.

Man, imagine if Holland somehow snagged that pick.

1st overall....

We'd probably draft Lilja or something.

It's obvious that someone doesn't watch Jimmy Howard play, or any other goaltender in the league for that matter.

Why? Have you read this thread? I don't think there's much confidence floating around most Wings fans right now.

Yes I have. However, you're still the effing red wings. I think there are some ridiculous predictions on both ends of the spectrum

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story. The Red Wings scored more goals and gave up fewer than the Predators. I'll give you special teams, but I'm not buying the defense and goaltending being on another level. Jimmy Howard was in Vezina contention until his injury in February.

Are you really trying to say jimmy Howard is in the conversation with Rinne? That's rich right there

omg i was gonna give u the benefit of the doubt but now i am gonna downright debunk everything u just said. Yah the Hawks blew a 4-0 lead to ur team but ur team still managed to lose... congrats. First of all, the Hawks have had s*** defence ALL YEAR... and their goaltending has been pathetic so bragging about that to us Wings fans is very laughable... and Jimmy Howard is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better then Crawfard!!!!! You say Rinne is lightyears better than Jimmy well let me ask you something. Before Jimmy got injured back in Februrary did you know he was on pace to BEAT BRODEUR's record of wins in a single NHL season of 49?? I didn't see Rinne doing that.

- Like I said you have a well balanced team, but you simply do NOT have the lethal offensive power stars that the Wings do so don't pretend that you can match that.
- Honestly if you are gonna come to these forums, at least raise truthful points, not just jibberish that makes Nashville fans look bad.

2 things. Injuries are part of the game. You just look petty when you blame misfortunes on I juries. And being on pace to do something and actually doing it are two different things. Holla at me when you learn that. Last I checked, Rinne led the NHL in wins with 43.

Nashville in 4. Our Defense is weak, we have forwards that turn the damn puck over all the time, along with defensive errors over and over. Oh yeah, our Powerplay is nonexistant and they happen to have the best power play at home. Did I mention the fact this team is 17-21-3 on the damn road................... Game, Set, Match. Sorry Folks.

I'm not disagreeing with you guys, obviously it sucks that we didn't finish the season stronger and I do hate relying on some sort of a playoff switch but if I can't hope for that, then there's not a lot to hope for. I believe that Rhinne is going to be all the difference in the series. If we can figure him out (no easy task) then we'll be ok. I don't think they've really got enough offense to be too afraid of and Weber and Suter can't be on the ice ALL the time. Matchups will be key, but I'm looking for a big series out of whichever line doesn't have to deal with that top defensive pairing. Wings in 6.

Anybody remember last year when we went into Phoenix in the first round against one of the top goalies from the regular season in Bryzgalov? We lit him up like a Christmas tree and that was with Z siting in the press box. Nashville doesn't scare me. Rinne has played 18 playoff games and has a .908 save %. The playoffs ARE different than the regular season

I find it amusing how almost everyone here and in the hockey world in general think that Preds are gonna beat the Wings... and more than that they act like the Preds are gonna run the Wings over. Well lets think about some things here.

- More proven team? The Wings
- More forward depth? The Wings
- More defense depth? The Wings (yes they have Sutter and Weber but guess what we have nick lidstrom and other dmen that are very effective... the Preds cannot say the same)
- Better goalie? The Preds (but Howard is still a very good goalie)

Clearly the Wings have the advantage in almost every aspect. We are superior down the middle, can create line combos that the Preds cannot compete with. Having said that, they are a very well defensively structured team. I think that Babs should start the playoffs with the lines we ended with today, meaning Eurotwins on the top line because I honestly do not think that the Preds can answer that. IT will be a hell of a good series, but I am saying Wings will win in 6 and upset almost everyone.

Lastly, I am happy everyone is saying the Wings are done because it takes the pressure off them and they can actually be the team to pull an "upset" for once. I am looking forward to this series and I truly think the Wings will come out on top.

#2279564 What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

Posted by LeonardSankar on 07 April 2012 - 01:57 PM

So after this years first round ouster what does Kenny do in the offseason? As far as I am concerned its a complete failure if both Ryan Sutter & Zach Praise are not in Wing jersey's come fall. Also I would make a play for Shea Webber b/c our first round picks take for ever to come on board and also they gave up a first for a piece of junk in Kyle Quency so might as well give up some firsts for something great.

What's a fact is that this team has been in serious decline since game 7 2009 and it needs to be fixed ASAP! This team won't beat any of the other 7 teams in the West come playoffs and being is 6th seed is a damm joke!

And the lack of TV exposure this series will likely get.

Which I can't really fault NBC, Nashville is boring as s*** to watch. The games might be earlier than out West, but there is much more risk of dozing watching the Preds. Please, hockey gods, let Radulov go for a leisurely puck-watching float up the right wing boards leaving his zone...

Pavel with a sick move, JUST MISSED... Hudler better not be used anymore in shootouts would someone please like to tell me why Babcock uses him over FIL?!?!? ALso, sick move by Patty Kane gotta give him props for that. Overall I think the Wings will be ready for the playoffs:

- Mike Babcock, for the love of God PLEASE keep Datsyuk and Zetterberg on the same line, whether it be with Bertuzzi or Nyquist... the second that switch was made the Wings came alive
- Franzen is at least looking a lot more determined at TRYING to make plays so that is a positive sign
- Our PK has been fantastic lately and whether you wanna admit it or not, our powerplay has not been that bad either. Think about it, I am pretty sure we have hit at least 1 post on our powerplay over the course of the past 6 or 7 games, including 2 posts today... I think the Wings will get it together
- Though Jimmy had a little rebound trouble today, he looks primed and ready

Lastly, everyone is so worried about Nashville having to play in their building but dont forget the fact that almost every time we play in their building during the season is on the 2nd night of a back to back so we are tired... lets see how they fair against us when rested. It will be a great series but I do not think Nashville can withstand the Wings.

#2278762 Potential First Round for Wings

Posted by Guest on 06 April 2012 - 09:50 AM

I believe I have figured it out...

If wings and preds win (or wings OT/SO loss) saturday, we play NSH first round and they have home ice.

If wings win and preds lose in regulation, we play them first round but we have home ice

If wings lose in regulation, we play the winner of LA/SJ game on Saturday.

If the Wings in and the Preds lose then Crosby is a crybaby *****

If the Wings lose and the Preds lose then Crosby is a crybaby *****

If any scenerio possible plays out then Crosby is a crybaby *****.
