  1. Awesome article and great inside into what makes Sid the kid, McDavid, Price and Keit such stars. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/mark-scheifele-top-5-nhl/ My highlight is this:

Excited to see what larkin can do against Parise and company
  3. Mail it in for Dahlin AND the gurantee of a top 4 picks trade Green for a second round pick

The Winged Wheel podcast had a pretty level headed take on the situation and I really agree it's basically a win win situation: AA signs: Wings have a young third line winger with second line updside AA walks: capspace plus the Wings are worse thus improving their chances for Dahlin And that's exactly where I'm at now I don't care anymore because it's really a win win situation

I apologize that was really stupid on my part, requesting a source but not having one by myself. So here's the source: https://elitesportsny.com/2017/06/03/no-shocker-new-york-islanders-weight-says-john-tavares-wants-win-cups/

long story short JT wants a cup, neither team (Wings and Isles) can offer him that.

Of course it means something but like it or not the chance to win a cup means more to players. The guy wants to win a cup not be part of another team that doesn't have any chance at doing so otherwise he could just sign an extension with the Isles. Every season and team needs something to look forward to and for me that's the chance of drafting Dahlin or at least the guarantee to draft Tkachuk.

Of course he isn't in the McDavid etc. situation only %o of NHL players is and I also think you are right they'll settle somewhere in the low to mid 2 mill range which is still a very tradable contraact if the relationship is damaged so in either case both sides would win.

    Ken Holland contract extension watch

No thanks I'd rather see 2 guys who are both reliable on the defensive side of the game, so at least try Danny D and Daley. Also come trade dead line Green will be gone so I'd rather use him on the PP to boost his points and maximize the return for him. Also it's funny how hung up people are over a GMs and coaches contract extension, when all it means is basically gifted money if they get fired. Best example of this is Winnipeg, does anyone really believe Cheveldayoff and Maurice will be there next year if Winnipeg misses the playoffs again? I for sure don't and a few million here and there are like pocketmoney for the Illitches and Thomsons' of the world BUT it makes the organization look good in the eyes of future GM and coach candidates because they know even if they get fired they'd get a nice goodbye present.

Maybe it's breaking news to some but the RFA market is changing and it's changing drastically. Í just refuse to believe that the Wings wouldn't offer a better contract if they had the capspace to do so maybe I'm wrong and it's still the old way of expecting some sort of discounts in order to have the honor to wear the winged wheel. But AA is not in the wrong here he thinks he is worth a bit more and if he gets it good for him. Connor Brown whom I'm a huge fan of is making 2,1 million per year maybe if the relationship is sour the Wings could trade AA for him.

Nothing against Pierre it's knowledge is unbelievable but this is the same clickbait as the Detroit and Stamkos article. Why would JT want to come here? Whenever the rebuild starts it willtake years of good drafting and some luck to build towards something that hopefully 1 day can win a cup(s)! again. JT will be 27 years old and should have another decade of hockey left in him given how he serious and hard he works. If I were him I'd be looking at Nashville (great city, great team and absolutely no media pressure), St. Louis or Tampa...imagine Stamkos, Tavares on the same team they'd basically have a 1a and 1b line depending on the specific needs of the game. What the Wings need to do is simple: hopefully finish last but damn Vegas, Vancouver and Newjersey will be tough to beat...in order to secure a top 4 pick which could be Brady Tkachuk a center with good size and some mean streak going on is exactly what the Wings could need...given that they don't win the Dahlin lottery. I don't care if it means that some (overhyped) young players would need to have a bad year for that because neither of them will be the difference between winning or losing a cup in the future with maybe Larkin and Mantha as the exception.

You very right, AA has no leverage but this can also set a bad precedent for Mantha and Larkin (whom I'd argue are the 2 most talented current young Wings on the team by far) they also have no leverage so does that mean they should take a low ball offer? Well a team can "force" them to do it and then face the consequences, players wanting out or signing for much much more when the leverage situation takes a turn. I know a lot of Wings fans are high on AA but the difference between 1,9 and let's say 2,3 doesn't really decrease/increase his value outside from his speed he is your everyday young, talented but somewhat rough winger every team seems to have and their trade value isn't as high compared to centers and defenders. But hey I really don't care that much either way it just urks me that everyone saw this situation coming and yet the highly paid Wings front-office stuff didn't. Yeah it's a business first but more often than not the it's a business thing only comes up when the team has the leverage when it comes down to a player signing an extension, the word "team friendly" is coming up more often than not. To be honest I'm surprised AA hasn't signed in Russia yet, he could make 3 mill no taxes, play for the Russian cup and in the Olympics

Well the thing is this old model of thinking is not going to fly. At some point the team has go figure out who the new core is and pay them to keep them. If I were Ferris I'd tell the Wings you knew the situation before but let's meet in the middle your offer is 1,9 we want 3 how about 2,4 and be done with it, else trade my client. Just to be clear, I'm not commenting on whether AA is worth it or not I'm just totally surprised by the lack of longterm thinking. I'm not even sure if AA is part of the core but low balling a young talented player is a game the Wings in their current state can't afford to play and if they do at least get something back for the guy.

Honestly it would be the best decision for him. Can't believe the Wings thought they could still offset cap problems by low balling young players like this. just trade the guy because there is no way he stays after all of this.
