How is TSN's site a mess?

Slow, can't find anything, have to scroll to find older articles because they've got rid of the page 1,2,3 option oh and of course more clicks than ever to find the important stuff. Glad the NHL followed suit with an even worse cheap mobile first site

#2651308 2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Posted by frankgrimes on 06 February 2016 - 08:09 PM

By proper rebuild, do you mean tanking? I think the problem is that people want immediate success when it comes to the Wings and cant take the fact that they still may be a couple years away . What do you define as a "proper" build. You have said in the past that you thought that the Wings should have dumped everyone minus Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Kronwall. What do you think that would have done for them? I love the way the Wings are re-building, they have completely reshaped their team, and at the same time stated competitive.

No, by proper rebuild I mean build a new core and that includes some tough decisions but you gotta do what's best for the team as a GM. I've excluded Kronner, Z and Pasha only because they have full NMC in their contracts so they'll stay. After Lids left and the Wings failed to land Suter getting a so much needed Top pairing guy should have been priority number 1 over keeping the streak alive. I think people still don't realise how lucky the Wings can feel to have landed Danny D. imagine the defense without him.

I know some people hate the idea of going with a younger roster and be bad for a few years to reload but what other options are there to get that damn number 1 stud ? I mean if people are happy with first, second round exits the status quo will be enough but personally like I've said in the past that's not Wings style, Wings style is to play every type of game the opponent wants and still beat them without even a full effort!

Getting better picks can also mean assets in a trade. I know Tatar and Goose are getting a lot of flack but for what exactly ? I've said from the beginning i would be extremely happy if they can turn into solid top 6 guys in the 20 - 25 goal range, not their fault that people are expecting more. That being said if either one landed us a too pairing guy I'd trade them in a heartbeat (and no that doesn't include rentals).

People here seen to think other teams are lining up to offer the team a too pairing guy, a goal scorer for some guys who might work out that's not how trading works. See the Johansen for Jones trade kicking the tires doesn't get a trade like this done looking for needs and fixing them does

But hey if I'm so wrong name me a potential playoff team that would be scared of facing the Wings? That's exactly what i mean when I'm stating staying put at the trade dead line wouldn't be the worst idea because this isn't a cup year anyways but the goal should be to acquire picks not trade them just keep a streak alive. Look at all the keep winners the last few years they've all had the following :

- elite defense
- elite centers
- very good to elite goaltending

Since you can't get all of that at once gotta start somewhere right? Which includes UFA ( no one is/was available), trades (other than Mantha, Larkin ) wings don't have the starting assets for that either so what's left is drafting...of course the overripen system but wouldn't it be cool to get someone who can make an immediate impact like McJesus, Ekblad or Hanifin? and sadly the current system forces teams to be bad to get such guys.

people can laugh at Edmonton all they want now but in a few years this team is going to be scary McJesus, Nurse, Draisaitl and Hall that's a pretty good core to build around.

so in conclusion staying put might be the best idea and if not I just hope it won't be another soon to be FA or end of the career rental. Think about it the Wings are going to open a new arena soon there needs to be some buzz and a new shiny toy ...

But hey if people are comfortable for overpaying for guys that will be here for 2 months and 1 or 2 playoff rounds than the future might not be so nice.

#2651143 Should the Red Wings Trade for Byfuglien?

Posted by frankgrimes on 06 February 2016 - 10:23 AM

Jeez.  Quit with the weight shaming already.

Seriously. I'd like to know where his teammates/coaches/trainers have complained about his **IN SEASON** conditioning...

Not some blowhard media guy, speculating blogger or interweb haterz talking outta their ass.

...and for the record, I think we should trade for Buff.  If he can't be had at the deadline, go hard for him in free agency.

Giving Goose for any rental would be a bad idea, period.

The training thing is simple logic: the older you get the harder you need to train to stay in shape, if you don't do it you'll fall behind. I'll laugh hard at whichever team signs him for anything more than 3 years.

There's no denying that Buff is a big boy, but when has it actually affected his ability to play?

There is a difference between being big/huge and fat. i.e. Chara is the biggest boy in the NHL but that guy is just lean and all muscle. It doesn't even matter what I think I'm sure some crazy team will give Buff what he wants and regret it, because once the decline will set in it won't be pretty and the guy would be unmovable with such a huge contract.

I also like the new logo, it has an old-school vintage touch to it :)

Why not? Dude would be an instant fan favorite in Detroit, providing size and toughness on the backend that we've been missing since forever.
Give them Nyquist straight up. If they want a defensmen, too, throw in Smith, or convince them that Ericsson is worth a damn.

he is fat, not exactly in the best shape and will command a salary north of 7 million over 7 years ...which given his dedication to the game will look like an albatross contract in 2 years. Just look at the decline of players that don't take fitness and nutrition seriously and then think about an almost 280 guy, who will be 31 soon.

I'm a huge fan of Goose but if the Wings trade him it better not be for a rental because I don't think there is anyone other than Mantha who could replace his production playing for the marines right now

Short answer no, long answer of course no

As usual - Holland will 'kick some tires', but what that really means is that he won't do anything.

Yeah - I'd love to see something done too...

May I ask why? This isn't a cup run year for the Wings and the available players are either rentals or ridiculous pricetags because there isn't a huge market. I mean, would anyone here give up a first rounder for a guy like Komarov ? I know I wouldn't

Thank goodness.  I don't know how much more I could endure of HFBoards.

Me too.  So many rude people on there.

I feel your pain, had to read the expert opinions and trades there was like WTF

#2650986 New NHL website design....

Posted by frankgrimes on 05 February 2016 - 10:01 AM

The first word that came to mind was something like Wordpress with an NHL skin.

this thing is even worse than the re designed TSN one because I looks so cheap unreal at least TSN has some nice elements but boy did the NHL screw up here. Not that I visited that site often but now I can't find anything and who in his right mind thought iframe like site scrolling would be a good idea? honestly create one site designed for Desktops and one minimalistic

Absolutely amazing design, some goalies really like to go over the top with their design but for whatever reason Howard hardly has any bad design.

#2650454 Players Tribune: John Scott A Guy Like me

Posted by frankgrimes on 29 January 2016 - 06:35 AM

Well that might be true, but how many of them want to tell that to John Scott in person?

especially since most haven't even played some higher level juniors which Scott obvously has :)

#2650417 Players Tribune: John Scott A Guy Like me

Posted by frankgrimes on 28 January 2016 - 07:18 PM

I've seen this posted in the All-Star thread butI think it deserves it's own thread because the ASG thread will be full with ASG talk saturday.

But at the same time: this isn’t Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I’m not some random person off the street, and I didn’t win a golden ticket to “play hockey with the stars.” I won an internet fan vote, sure. And at some point, without question, it was a joke. It might even finish as a joke. But it didn’t start as one. It started with a very small pool, out of a very small pool, out of the very, very smallest pool of hockey players in the world: NHLers. That was the vote. A fan vote, an internet vote — but a vote from among the 700 or so best hockey players in North American professional sports.

And I’m one of them.

If the league thought this was an embarrassment, pretty much all of the players I’ve encountered have thought otherwise. I’ve gotten texts from so many guys saying the same thing: “You should go.”

And that didn’t happen because of the internet. I busted my ass to be one of them. I’ve skated every day since I was three years old to be one of them. I’ve persevered through Juniors roster cuts, Alaskan bus rides, Advanced Dynamics exams, and — yes — fights, to be one of them.

But I’m one of them. And that means a lot to me.

It means a lot to my family.

So when someone from the NHL calls me and says, “Do you think this is something your kids would be proud of?”

… That’s when they lost me.

Goes to show you what a bunch of mean spirited, disgusting idiots the NHL has in their front-office and what a SOB Don Maloney was in that whole situation. I hope the players help him score some goals as a big F U to the NHL.

I'm also loving the phrase " a guy like me" - whatever people may think about John Scott and his role the fact is, he is one of 700 NHL players, period. If some suit wearing idiot would have told me on how to be a dad and what MY kids might be proud of I don't know if I would have responded as friendly as Scott did, so huge kudos to him.

Smart and great guy NHL needs more John Scotts and less idiots in their headquarter.
