#2686252 Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Kenny better be on line one and make that happen bring him home.

DannyD - Trouba as the top pair would be a nice draft

whatever the jets want you pay it

#2686213 What happened to the official Wings site?

Posted by frankgrimes on 24 September 2016 - 05:07 AM

Seriously this site looks like it's the myspace site of a 12 old to quote Sheldon Cooper.

As if the redesign of nhl.com wasn't bad enough now the official site has to follow that mess? I mean I've accepted that the video player became worse with each re-design but now even the normal site is barely readable, as bad as TSN's redesign is nhl.com is much worse. Seriously sooooo much wasted white space, the fonts are way too big and therefore wasting so much useless space.

The old one wasn't great but much better than this bulls***. I've completely stopped going to nhl.com now I can't even find the things I'm looking for at the official Wings site great way to start this f****** season, f*** you nhl.com for ruining yet another site.

Whoever decided having a "responsbile" (i.e. cheap looking, slow and not well designed), site for mobile and desktop deserves to experiencee that crap live way too destroy webdesign, screw this s***.

#2686093 Dan Cleary Gets Training Camp Tryout

Posted by frankgrimes on 19 September 2016 - 07:50 AM

It's a f****** PTO, if he succeeds he will get a job on re griffins and given the amount of remaining talent there chances are his veteran experience will be very welcome. Maybe a call up here and there if the Injury bug comes back.

Like it not Cleary making the GR roster or not is going to be the least of the Wings problems this year.

#2685250 2016 World Cup of Hockey thread

Posted by frankgrimes on 31 August 2016 - 02:13 PM

I'll be the first  second to post a thought. There are some rumblings about a possible defensive pairing in the Swedish national hockey team being:

Victor Hedman - Erik Karlsson

For me that would be the deadliest defensive pairing I have seen in a few years if they were to "gel".

Nerve: I don't see why we can't have GDT's if someone wants em. This thread is mostly for the preamble leading up to the tournament and general discussion regarding it while it's churning.

The defense for Sweden is sick: Hedman, OEL, Karlsson but when you look at Canada Weber, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Keith it's so hard to pick between those 2. But I doubt the players will take this thing seriously.

#2682031 Steve Ott signs 1 year, $800k deal with Detroit

Posted by frankgrimes on 03 July 2016 - 04:52 AM

Should I PM you before making a post next time to ask if it's appropriate? Gtfooh.

This is about Steve Ott, not McCarthy not Howe...also what are you still doing here you've said you are going to bump ship on the Leafs bandwagon yesterday?

#2681864 Who should get A?

Posted by frankgrimes on 02 July 2016 - 05:48 AM

Abby or Danny D. both should be here for a long time and seem to be born leaders

Larkin is too young he will be captain one day but no need to put any extra pressure on him

FINALLY some grit and physicality, like it a lot

#2681600 Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit

Posted by frankgrimes on 01 July 2016 - 02:58 PM

3 coaches have given up on this guy, the Wild bought him out for a reason.

Didn't want him but of course the Wings sign him at the plus side it's only for 1 year so if it doesn't work out they can just let him walk.

so much for becoming heavier and tougher to play against lol

#2681487 Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit

Posted by frankgrimes on 01 July 2016 - 02:05 PM

This is just insane. Holland seems to get worse every single year.

Can anyone remember a decent free agent signing within the last 6 years? I can only think of Hossa.

Oh and he just LOVES locking people past their prime to massive contracts and then being screwed when they can no longer play at an elite level. 6 year contract for a 32 year old? Are you kidding me?

Thanks for this gem, frank.  You've just cemented your legacy as LGW's Don Cherry.

Nice, I take that as a positive because I'm a huge fan of the guy.

Sadly out on the only player I wanted, will be interesting to see what Toronto is offering

It's embarrassing that people do t think of this. They just assume the players want to come to Detroit.

No what's embarrassing is not accepting the cold hard truth which is a real rebuild. I would have been fine with doing nothing today because there isn't anyone who can help this team. More and more players don't want to come here they'd rather sign in Buffalo, Edmonton if this isn't a clear indication I don't know what is.

With the prices being paid today maybe someone would have traded for Z or Kronwall

#2681268 Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit

Nelson is finishing not a starting piece this team is nowhere near contention ...why not stay pat ? Seems like cap space needs to be spent no matter what ? Which is so dumb there's going to be another UFA day, trade deadline and a draft ...yeah Wings didn't get Stamkos in fact he wasn't even interested how about using that fact as a hint that a rebuild is needed instead of spending money on non number one centers and magically hope some late pick will turn into the next Z.

Meanwhile Looch who is much younger, brings something the Wings lack signs with Edmonton.

Backes in Boston, Okposo with Buffalo the east got heavier to play against but if course the Wings are going with a guy who may or may not help getting them to the usual first round exit. Jesus Christ

So what's the center position now?

Nielson
Larkin
Z or AA ?

What's the endgame here? Pissing Mr Is money away and hope for a draft wonder? This team will need to be bottom out in order to get up again...yeah the Wings are an original 6 team which had tons of success but top guys are shying away from signing here may be that should give Holland something to think about

#2680937 Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

Posted by frankgrimes on 01 July 2016 - 09:44 AM

If they aren't going to try and change it up and get someone in there thats going to possibly make us better then why not just get some big dumb fighting bruiser. At least we can have some kind of entertainment with him. Geez. We went from "oh man maybe holland has turned it around to ah s*** there he is..the old holland.

John Scott , Patrick Bourdelaus and Ryan Reeves would mean a lot of entertainment for a fraction of the cap
