#2553733 12/4 GDT - Stars 2 at Red Wings 5

Posted by frankgrimes on 04 December 2014 - 02:25 PM

I'm with zombo, I don't even have a second favorite team let alone enjoy watching good players against the wings. I'll watch them play well against other teams.

That's ok but given some of the Wings weaknesses I love to watch other teams that bring that element to their game. Dallas may not be a hardnosed team but Benn really hits all cylinders...offensive stud, physical, grit and a hardnosed type of game and I like watching that. Do I wish to see both guys exploding against the Wings ? For sure not but I'm also not going to pretend that I don't watch other teams. Heck I even watched the Leafs thanks to Colton Orr, Frazer and Frazer McLaren I just like that type of heavy game.

it's just a matter of preferences I think, I'll always cheer for the Wings but it's no secret that some other teams are more entertaining in my mind.

#2553663 Jean Beliveau Passes at 83

Quinn, Beliveau... In less than two weeks horrible condolences and prayers to his family. Sucks even more when holidays are around the corner.

#2553078 Are the Wings a Contender?

Posted by frankgrimes on 01 December 2014 - 12:05 PM

Sorry but 4,25 per for KFQ is overpayment, Ehrhoff - who is much better - is making less than that and look at Pittsburghs improvement so trading him will not be easy. I think he will ride out his contract here. But yeah XO deserves to have a place on this team. Not that this would make the team a contender, but it would be nice to see the youth movement taking over more and more.

#2552317 11/26 GDT : Philadelphia Flyers 2 at Red Wings 5

Weiss was our best forward tonight in terms of Corsi-for percentage. That, to me, is even more encouraging than the three goals in two games.

Hockey is played on ice not in a basement with an excel computer or by math freaks

#2552022 Chelios Is Not Too Fond of Shanahan

Posted by frankgrimes on 26 November 2014 - 05:36 PM

I think what Chelios said is perfectly fine, Shanhan has no experience at the job, he never coached or has been involved in a GM role and now he is taking on a huge job in THE hockey-market worldwide. Becoming a GM/president is hard becoming a good one is even harder and personally I appreciate guys who are working their way up more than someone who gets the job on a silver table.

My favorite Chelios quote of all time

#2552002 Lucic tasting some knuckles...

Posted by frankgrimes on 26 November 2014 - 12:54 PM

Yeah him, Jenner and maybe even Johannson won't be available for anything the Wings have to offer. If I remember correctly he also refused to fight the Islanders though guy Gallant who's not that big but has quick fists and p protects himself very well But man without Thornton and Chara the Bruins aren't playing a tough game which should be exactly where Lucic shines.

#2551343 Inconsistency

Posted by frankgrimes on 23 November 2014 - 03:20 PM

Rebuilding/retooling team that isn't  as skilled as it used to be, so inconsistency has to be expected. The team lacks gritty guys that can provide energy and change the momentum with a huge hit or blocking a laserbeam of a shot.

#2550814 Alfie not playing this season

Posted by frankgrimes on 21 November 2014 - 04:12 PM

Great player, should make it to the HHOF - although he might have to wait a bit - thanks for trying it Alfie, now go and enjoy your retirement with the Senators :-)

Such a classy player, will for sure watch his retirement ceremony in Ottawa. I'm also glad, that he doesn't push it the guy has made his money and had one heck of a career.

But I still think he should have finished his last year in Ottawa in hindsight I highly doubt he would have left them again :(

#2550184 CBJ's Jack Johnson files for bankruptcy

Posted by frankgrimes on 20 November 2014 - 12:50 PM

Easily duped.  By his parents.

His parents bought the house because they had power of attorney.  And the SEC hasn't exactly done a great job of protecting the US economy, let alone one guy.

I do agree that firing his agent and not replacing him was a giant mistake.  His parents, teammates, friends all should've been pointing that out to him.  He sounds naive.  I guess I just don't judge a 25 year old kid in that situation harshly for trusting his parents.  It'd be a different story if he blew it all himself on houses, cars, etc.

Agreed yeah it was a mistake but nobody in his right mind would believe that your own family is taking 15 million $ and turn it into nothing.  Sad story indeed at least now he fill find out who his real friends are nice to see that the Jackets are standing behind him also.

You might want to add some punctuation after "horrible".

I agree, this is horrible.  Thoughts and prayers to his family, loved ones.

Thanks man sorry what I meant was:

This is horrible

My prayers are for his family and loved ones

Never ever would I write horrible thoughts ...damn of mistake of mine so sorry

#2548084 General discussion for tonight's games

Posted by frankgrimes on 09 November 2014 - 06:03 AM

Not a fan of Crosby but what a show against the Sabers...5 point night ridiculous. I've watched the Preds - Blues what a great game that was, Pekka Rinne - so happy he's healthy - is an unbeatable wall when he is on his game.

I always liked Jeff Carter and Mike Richards both got unfairly critized in Philadelphia, get them away from all that attention and they shine. Also happy for Kopitar breaking his scoring slump, maybe the best european player in the game right now.

that was actually quite funny really loved it

#2547659 Leafs' Ashton suspended 20 games for violating PED policy

Posted by frankgrimes on 06 November 2014 - 04:40 PM

This league is so ridiculous it's not even funny:

slam someone through the glass...$ 2.500 fine when you are making 14.000.000 a year

spear someone...$ 5.000 fine for a 6 mill per player

slam an opponents face on the ice...14 games

using performance enhancing help...20 games

summary: f*** you NHL the whole front office needs to get cross checked by Steve Macintyre so they'll go back to their greedy, non integrity life.

#2547655 Jersey Sponsorship

Posted by frankgrimes on 06 November 2014 - 04:34 PM

Enjoy it..it will be the same bulls*** as in europe where some clubs are not only selling out their jerseys but some are also changing their game-colors to match the ones of a sponsor. It's a horrible thing and makes buying jerseys almost useless because you want to represent a club not a damn sponsor when you are paying a good junk of money for that stuff.

The day the NHL gets rid of that stupid current front-office can't come soon enough we need someone at the helm who is willing to protect the integrity and tradition of the sport.

Rogers, ads on jerseys, less fighting and more and more showboaters entering the league...hockey is fast becoming something it shouldn't be.
