Murray is not an idiot, no way we are getting Tyler for Kindl and Weiss.

I know it's the first period of the first game, but man this team really lacks offensive creativity.

It's so hard to watch, why did I re-watch the 2002 highlights.. Teams are like night and day

Kip, I believe that was Brunner, not Nyquist.

Frankgrimes, what do you mean by 9 game tryout? If you're talking about the junior rule, that wouldn't apply to him. Whenever they send him down, be it after one game or 20 games, he would have to clear waivers to go back to Grand Rapids.

Oh thanks had that confused then. If he keeps his performance up, he won't be on waivers :-)

#2539193 23 man roster set... say hi to your 2014/15 Wings

My guess is simple : Weiss doesn't provide the type of play Babcock expects. Even after the signing Babcock talked about different styles in Florida and Detroit. Maybe Holland should have listened to Babcock before signing the guy?

That's been a problem since some time now, the Wings overpay for some players but lowball talent and still try to underpay top ufas, that doesn't work. If Weiss doesn't fit, show case him increase his value and look what you can get back fire him. It would be the best option for both sides.

Thanks for the gdt, glad hockey is back. For the game itself I'm not expecting much, Boston - even if they took a step back - is still too good. Rask was a wall yesterday

Frank.... you started the thread quoting a player complaining about his (and others like him) diminishing role as an enforcer.

I'm not sure how you're surprised that would turn into a discussion about "the diminishing role of an enforcer."

I'm not sure what you mean by this...

The state nerds you know that new TSN guys who seem to provide nothing else, than stupid tables filled with math stuff instead of easy to understand (Goals, Assists, Point Totals) things. I mean, everyone can sit in the basement and play around with excel sheets they didn't need to hire someone for that.

TSN just posted a radio segment discussing the diminishing role of the enforcer.

They point to analytics and then fail to reasonably connect the two in any way.

Please don't turn that into another pro/anti enforcer thread. My intention was to give inside on how a former NHL player feels degraded;pissed off and is giving his thoughts on which players are harder or easier to play against (we are talking about fourth liners here of course).

btw. I'd rather spend time with cool, down to earth heavyweight champs/tough guys instead of some mum's basement dwellers who aren't doing anything other than playing around with Excel state sheets 24/7 and act like know it all smartasses no appreciation more pity for that "new wave"...I would be surprised if one of them ever watched a game without a cam or calculator...

In all honesty I would rather play against Drew Miller 82 games a year vs Colton Orr or Jordan Toottoo.

Who wouldn't ? Miller brings nothing to the table, Orr is as tough as they come and Toottoo while not as tough will hit everything that moves.

Glad for him, guy deserves it. Make the best of it Toots

btw. if Brunner hasn't made the roster he goes on waivers right ?

Nice to hear you are doing well so far. Hopefully when everything is over you are fully painfree :)

Maybe I'm too stupid but I still can't find anything on this site and on the verge of giving up

#2538467 Holland interview with Mickey comment about a trade

Posted by frankgrimes on 05 October 2014 - 05:55 PM

I would be happy with Roman Josi, great player on a tremendous cap hit, only downside is he isn't physical at all and I'm not sure if he could run the powerplay. But he had offensive upside Maybe our favorite Predsfan can talk about his availability?

Given his track record, I dont think we want Holland making a trade.

Can I ask what his poor track record is? I'm guessing you will say the Legwand trade, which I dont think is fair yet as we dont know what Jarnkrok is going to become. Other then maybe the Quincey trade, I cant think of one that bad.

The Jarnkrok trade was a pure panic move based on the notion of him going back to Sweden stock didn't come true. You just don't trade a guy like him for 2 months of a third line center, when the team is in extreme need of defense

#2538090 TSN Radio - McKenzie: Enforcers in the NHL

I loved the line where he was challenged by carkner You stick up for your teammates. Ive been on his side many times, and I didnt want to turn him down. You kind of respect him sticking up for his teammates."
It always astounds me how well mannered and respectful these guys are, they know they're a dying breed and generally speaking they're the most honorable dudes on the ice.
Things like that are why I fell in love with the game, I love football, but hockey always seemed to show the best of respect in competition.

And they need to sign someone who can take on the fighting for him.
Its only a matter of time before these guys start showing signs of cte, and all the other health problems that come along with multiple concussions.

Fully agreed and it really pisses me off, how such great, honorable and respectful guys aren't getting the support they deserve from everybody. These guys are fully aware of the dangers, consequens and yet they are sticking up for something honorable and their teammates no matter at what cost. Another reason why I can't stand the anti-fighting crowd those guys deserve nothing but the utmost respect.

Fully agreed the Devils should sign Big Mac Steve MacIntyre or Gillies if he doesn't make the Flames roster and let Clowe focus on playing on the edge without risking further damages.
