#2477296 Z interviewed in Swedish paper

Posted by frankgrimes on 26 January 2014 - 02:29 PM

Superb job thank you very much for this, very well translated.

Z is all you want from a captain and he has learned from the best, what a humble and outstanding player we can be so thankful to have him and Pasha.

All thing being equal other places may deserve teams more but all things are not equal and many of us do not know these difference in each market whether its ownership population location arena and keeping teams in America

I think your concern of cash cow could be valid but until I see a negative impact from a winter classic for the league I can't agree with it.

Anyway I wish our team played more like those teams you mentioned!

Like I said no worries here everyone is entitled to an opinion and like I said I'm happy if the people there enjoyed it. The point about not knowing the difference is true but I think Quebec City deserves a team and it would be another slamdunk just like Winnipeg.

Fully agreed I really love that style of play and as their success has shown it serves you incredible well.

California is the greatest state in the union and its not even close. Talking s*** about a place that youve never been to makes you look jealous and sad. If you enjoy shovelling snow off your driveway over playing volleyball on the beach, be my guest. Personally, im going to go enjoy my sunday afternoon brunch and mimosas on the patio in my shorts and flip flops. Dont forget your jackets today!

WTF nobody is talking s*** about California people are rightfully questioning how BEACHBALL and HOCKEY in the same area are fitting, why a red carpet is needed for a hockeygame. I love the experience of all 4 times of the year, winter being my favourite so thanks I enjoy shovelling snow and laying in front of the chimney when it's - 10 outthere.

#2476991 So when would you make a move and what type?

Green is owed over 6 mil next season then is a UFA

No to Green he is injury prone and very bad defensively.

Pietrangelo has been my favourite non-Wings Dman since his rookie season.  I like your whole list, a lot.

As Subban goes between the legs down 2 goals.  No care in the world about getting a W, just looking flashy.  What a clown.

I'll keep Kronwall thanks.

Fully agreed Pietrangelo and Suter have been my non-Wings favourite for quite some time, both are excellent and don't give a s*** about looking flashy, they are just getting the job done in some impressive fashion.

To be fair, I think even a clown would care more about his teammates than this wannabe defender.

Not me.  Poor in the D zone, a complete D-bag in a bad way and he's gonna want probably 8 mil next year.

Agreed no need to have guys with an NBA, soccerlike attitude on a team thats trying to retool on the fly and loaded with classy guys. Personally I'm also not a fan of all the flashy offensive minded defenseman if they are Niedermayer Lidström like sure but otherwise I'd take guys like Pietrangelo, Suter or Keith Seabrook over any of them (maybe Weber being the exception).

Having said that this game is boring, nice that the Wings are leading but given both are original 6 teams there should be way more energy

Smurfs are above the Wings in the standings so this would be an opportunity to get some much needed points. But in the end it really depends on which team will show up.

Hopefully Subban and Eller are getting Kronwalled can't stand those two.

#2475289 Steve Ott to possibly be moved to Detroit.

A first round pick for an upcoming UFA who isn't a star wow. Buffalo really has to lower their expectations for Miller and Ott.

I would not do it for the simple fact: I think it could be the best draft position this team has had in some time. The guy will be an UFA so why not wait a few months and make him an offer them without paying a first rounder.

#2475054 Leaders need to be leaders

Posted by frankgrimes on 21 January 2014 - 04:46 AM

Assume for a second, how this team would be playing without Z and Pasha ? We wouldn't be talking about making the playoffs, we would be talking about a top 5 pick ( wouldn't mind that at all ).

Like others said, it's tough to blame individuals and to some extent even Babcock, Holland just hasn't given him much to work with and without the two remaining stars things would be very grim.

The only positive so far, is the game of Nyquist, Tatar, Danny Dekeyser and Sheahan. Helm just came back after another injury, so I wouldn't judge him too soon.

Z is trying his best, he obiously isn't an alltime great like St. Nick but none the less a great player and leader, sadly I think we won't be seeing him or Pasha with another cup :(

Wow talk about not understanding hockey, Hartley did nothing wrong yet these greedy idiots are fining him. This league is turning into a joke 6 games for torts seems fair and right If I am Hartley I'd tell them to f*** off because Incandescent start whoever I want, he should go to a neutral arbitrator and appeal Burke is perplexed with the fine and stands behind Hartley, if I'm the owner I would pay for him with a nice letter to the league questioning their understanding of the term rivalry

Who is the power forward you speak of? I much to my shame dont follow the Blues/ know their players to watch for.

Backes the guy is sadly the definition of a big beast. Would love to have him on the Wings but watching our players against him is not something I'm looking forward to today.

Calling the best game of the season a joke *lol*

Fans were on the seat, players and fans alike love it that's good ol' hockey the way it used and should be. I know people that are still talking and loving the Isles Pens game games like this are hard to forget, because they provide everything fans love about hockey.

Hartley has done nothing wrong, he can put the line of his pleasing outthere and he decided to choose his toughest one, good for him. Keep in mind, the Flames have been a bit of pushover team their new management doesn't like that and with O'Brien, McGrattan and now Westgarth the pushover days may be over, even as a non Flamesfan gotta love that quick turnaround.

Wonder what would happen, if Eakins sends out BigMac, Gazdic to start the faceoff *g*

#2474461 Would Samuelsson ever consider retiring mid-season?

Posted by frankgrimes on 20 January 2014 - 07:30 AM

There is nothing that can be done about the contract now. Do I blame Sam ? No, if somebody offers me such a contract I'll sure take it, the whole fiasco just like the Colaiacovo, Weiss thing is solely on Holland. After looking at it, even if Sam does retire the caphit still counts thanks to the stupid CBA.

So the  best thing we can hope for, is he does play well when he is in the lineup everything elese is out of the teams control as sad as it is.

as for Holland being ill-prepared...well that's true and given the almost blank cheque from the best owner in all sports the roster should be better, bu t it is what it is. Hopefully, next season will be "clean house" time, don't re-sign any of the vets (including Alfie there is enough leadership on this team and he wont win a cup here) and give the young guns more opportunities.

NHL needs to fine the Flames coach. That was bush league move to start the game. He might have had his reasons, but this makes the game look bad,

Tortarella will get suspended, Hartley didn't do anything wrong here this makes the game entertaining, back in the good ol' days stuff like this happened more often and fans are loving it. Nice to see line brawls are slowly coming back.

Tortas is getting easily pissed off, the same thing happened against the Devils.

Best hockeygame of the season by far, coming home seeing the Wings win and then all of a sudden a good ol' hockey linebrawl, superb what a sunday start.

If****** love the way McGrattan and Westgarth gone about their business, McGrattan and Sestito even talked to each other after the fight, classy guys. The NHL clearly needs more of that and less of that new nhl stuff.

Tortarella will get suspended for sure, his post game will be classic

#2473782 Perspective?

Posted by frankgrimes on 18 January 2014 - 03:17 AM

Don't see the Wings beating Boston or Pittsburgh in a 7 game series...healthy or not

Nobody saw them competing with the Blackhawks last season either.  But we managed to take them to OT in game 7.  Didn't the Wings have to win their last 4 last season just to get in?  Weren't there just as many injuries playing the little wimpy Western Conference?  Trade Jimmy Howard?  That No Movement Clause may put a damper on that.  Most teams are at or near the salary cap.  A majority of the roster has a NTC or NMC, so making trades isn't an easy proposition.  I can't think of another team that has so many starters out of the lineup.  If the Wings were relatively healthy and were in the same position, it'd be a bit more disconcerting.  But as someone else mentioned, with the. I cap and lack of high draft picks over the past 2 decades, a de,cline ws inevitable.  It would be nice if they were Championship contenders every year, but no team is in any sport is.  It's not to say that I've agreed with every move Holland has made, but the Wings have been so good for so long, the fans have become spoiled.  I don't want to see it all end either, but its going to happen sooner or later.

I'm starting to think this series really gave people more importantly Holland a false impression on where this team is headed in the future but I'll bite. The Hawks simple underestimated the team and thought it would be easy. After they've found another gear the team was simply overmatched in a lot of areas.

Like I said when the Wings were healthy and didn't score it was they need to find chemistry, new conference and all that stuff. It doesn't matter, if we as fans are giving them time or boot, other teams are winning so time to catch up is running out. The sad part is, watching this team is boring, they are pushed around way too easily, safe for Kronner from time to time no big hits or playing with an edge..

Also having Pasha or Z out should have given people a good idea on what's ahead, if Holland doesn't react.

Maybe missing the playoffs would be the best thing longtermwise, get a better draftpick and start the rebuild in the McDavid year, not a bad year to start. With gems like Tatar, Nyquist and Danny already in place it shouldn't be as painful as other ones. So yeah fairly lengthy but I'm worried about the future and Holland has to share a ton of the blame for not using the wealth this franchise has, this team used to get a player if they wanted him!
