#2464724 12/14 GDT : Penguins 4 at Red Wings 1

Posted by frankgrimes on 15 December 2013 - 02:01 AM

This season is very depressing. It's not so much that I believe this team is bad or won't make the playoffs, but I simply just do not like the make up of this team, I dislike some of the players, the attitude, the current lines, and the GM's moves. I hope they start to pull there heads out there asses and actually ice the best team we can.

I am feeling the same, the makeup of the current DetroitRedWings just seems to be missing something and it's not just grit, toughness given their streaky season so far it seems like the hunger to win and dedication has been lost. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but as a GM there needs to be a player turnover, otherwise mediocrity and country club atmosphere are the reward.

Also once again they didn't stick up for each other, Engelland ellbows Abdelkader and no reaction...Despite Z Pasha, Nyquist, Tatar, monster and Danny K there is nothing to like about this team. Maybe missing the playoffs will finally wake up the front office and this hanging on to spots will turn into some sort of a rebuild..

Anyway I'very thought other teams wouldn't play their enforcers against this team? For sure they do and why not the PP sucks.

#2464308 Thornton suspended 15 games.

Wonder what Mario L., Sindy C and the rest of this ***** organization promised Bettman and Shanahan for only giving Neal 5 games? If you giveThornton (first time offender) 15 there is no way that SOB named Neal can get away with 5. Can't wait, till some tough teams are going to take this crybabies by the horns and run Sindy + Malking out of the building. This coupled with the non suspension for that Flyers thug just makes so happy again knowing, that Shanahan will never ever hang at the in the rafters at the Joe.

Guy completely sold himself out, no integrity  at all.

I was 26 back then, and thought it was awesome that someone finally gave Lemieux what he deserved...Even better it being a Detroit Red Wings.

I'm 43, and still feel the same way - then again I'm a fan from a different era.

Sure, Thornton crossed the line in a disgusting way but it's not like the Penguins are a clean-team by any ways. Also Thornton has been in a lot of heated situations and never ever has been suspended, huge kudos to him and I would love to have a guy like him protecting Pasha, Z and the young guns instead of only one guy who is willing to stand up for them in Sam...

Loved what McCarty did back then and now that I'm older I love it even more! Rock'em Sock'em hockey, even Lemieux said he wanted a guy like McCarty on the Stars because of how well DMac played his role.

#2463493 Yzerman commits to Alumni Game roster!

Posted by frankgrimes on 11 December 2013 - 05:17 PM

Looking back at the interview with mick, this makes a lot of sense. If he never intended to play and the team knew that, I don't think they would have put so much emphasis on the AG during the interview. In hindsight, it looks like a ploy to drum up discussion. I know mick is not employed by the team, but that's just splitting hairs.

Either way, I don't care. This game is going to be awesome. I'm not even excited about the WC itself. The league pretty much ruined it.

The sad part about that is they aren't even done yet, at some point they are going to give the WC to teams that can't even fill their own (small!) arenas.

Anyway, I know I might be in the minority but I'm looking way more forward to the alumni game than the actual one. So many good memories and all-time greats on the ice on both sides, Clark, Domi  and cujo are nice to watch too. Should be an epic battle between two epic franchises, sadly the league doesn't show the respect, this game deserves.

#2463338 The Nyquist/Tatar Thread

Posted by frankgrimes on 11 December 2013 - 12:30 AM

To add to the anecdote about the caller and Datsyuk, I wasn't all that impressed with Zetterberg the first couple of years. I liked him but didn't fully appreciate his skills. And Datsyuk wasn't really loved until 2007 or so. When he shed his disappearing in the playoffs reputation.
So yeah, even in their mid-20s players can surprise you. Let's add Franzen to the list.
My big bold prediction is that Nyquist will be the next captain.

I may be in the minority here but I think Helm or Danny K will be the next captain.

I was just trying to imagine what these guy would have been like if they were all playing in their primes.

I was also wondering what the salary would be for this game if they were payed in modern dollars based on the pay from their highest years.

I think I'll just go back to smiling.

I can see why Stevie was hesitant to commit given his knees and other commitments.  It's easier to change a "maybe" to a "yes" than to a "no".

I really think and believe this roster would have exceeded the 100 million mark easily and the best part of it, the best owner in all of sports would have paid it without thinking twice. Seeing these two alumni teams just proves how stupid and boring the league has become post 2005.

At this rate a shooter trainer would give jimmy a run for his money. That said, i have high hopes for mrazek as well.

Anyone else think after Gus' big season he'll go somewhere else for a starting job/more money?

If he keeps up this stellar performance there are will for sure be a market for him.

Very deserving and well thought out articles but hyping them up ad the euro twins if the future is setting the bar to high. Personally, I would be happy if both could become steady contributors on the top 6. Can't wait till they are starting to bulk up. Like others I had to laugh hard, when Kenny's favoritism of veterans was mentioned because its more than true. Lets hope that Gustav N and Thomas T. can keep their compete level up for a long time, because these two are a better support cast than the so called veterans.

There are two problems with your argument and how you present it.  First, fighting isn't part of the game, hence it's against the rules and is a penalty.  Secondly, you repeatedly call anyone who disagrees with you "soccer moms and dads", and tell everyone else to go watch something else if they don't agree.  Both are decidedly against the forum rules as well as piss poor ways of defending your point of view.  Not withstanding that fact that you inexplicably get away with your baiting over and over and over again, one has to wonder why (if you're such a fan of something that isn't part of the game) you don't go watch MMA or boxing. Instead, you prefer to tell everyone else to watch something else whenever they suggest that perhaps the game they love shouldn't be turned into a dangerous freak show because of flagrant and repeated disregard for the rules of the sport.

Says the guy, who is trying in every damn thread to "analyse" the opinion of others. Soccer mums and hockey dads is not used for anyone specifically it's simple a term, because +in general+ the same discussions are happening on every board, every year ..more scoring, remove this and that...so it's warranted like it or not., just a simple term so stop reaching and stay on topic. I also don't need to defend my arguments, some agree some disagree so I could care less, if someone thinks I'm wrong or right.

Secondly I don't need others telling me, what is part of the game and what isn't since I know it, thanks.

Anyway back to topic

Bylsma has no problem with the hit from Orpik, maybe they should have asked him about the Neal thing, I am sure he doesn't have a problem with that either if it happened to Malkin or Crosby he would sing a different tune. That's exactly the reason why I can't stand the Penguins they are so talented but extremely hypocrites, Julien was honest and of course right.

Did he really call them Team Bettman?

And kipwinger is right, you need to knock it off with the Soccer Moms schtick, it does your arguments no favour.

Nope team Bettman is my nickname for that team, after all the stuff they are getting away with.

Doesn't matter to me, its just annoying reading the same headlines everytime something like this is happening. If people don't like the game fine, don't watch it but stop pushing an agenda.

Neals hit could have been way worse the guy is skating with protectors on his knee through the head of a player, who happens to lay down on the ice that's disgusting and extremely dangerous. The department of player safety needs to look at the intent and then at the result, if Thornton is getting extensively more than Neal something in this league is really really wrong..if this happened to Crosby Mario and the whole Penguins organization would cry bloody murder.

I think Claud Julien nailed it, basically said:

Thornton obviously crossed the line, but so did team Bettman known as the Penguins.

If Shanahan wants to send a message:

Thornton: 10 games - disgusting and he knows it

Neal: 8 games - that wasn't kneeing this was an intent with the head as principal point of contact according to rule #48 ..didn't even show any remorse what an idiot

Orpik: phone hearing = less than 5 games

I am sure it's also just bad luck, that everytime a game goes out of hand the Penguins are involved...maybe thats the Mario L. & Sindy C. bonus...

Personally, I still love the type of grit and caring McCarty has shown that's the type of team bounding I love to watch. Like Downey said, you can hit the players but if you cross the line someone will come out and make you pay for it. Sometimes I think people are forgetting, that this hockey not a sport for the soccer mums and dads of the world :)

Orpik released and cleared to travel with team.
So why was he taken off on stretcher? ....

For show.... to make sure Thornton will get more games which in turn would actually make the Bruins better by having a guy out there who can actually play hockey

Thornton can play hockey and on top of it is tough as nails a perfect fourth liner plus brings tons of leadership.

If i were an athlete I'd tell HBO that I am introverted guy and they are not allowed to follow me with their cameras. Weiss needs to find his game in a hurry so stuff like HBO is the last thing he needs.

It's not that difficult, the Monster has been playing well so why not start him till Howy is getting his game gback seems like a no brainer to me.

#2460690 Lundqvist, Rangers agree on extension.

Posted by frankgrimes on 04 December 2013 - 04:22 PM

King Henrik didn't have success? This guy is more often than not the only reason the NewYorkRangers are even in the mix for the playoffs. An annually Vezina nominee, the best goaltender in the world by far and probably the most beloved player they have letting him go was never an option. Thanks to the stupid CBA GMs can't get creative with contracts anymore because they are all under a regime if they don't follow suit = losing a draft pick in the first round.

8,5 per year is a lot but the king certainly deserves it.
