#2457566 11/23 GDT: Game 24 - Senators 4 @ Red Wings 2

Posted by frankgrimes on 24 November 2013 - 10:26 AM

This was an embarrassing game, no matter how one is looking at it the only bright spot  Smith showing huge balls against Neil.

- diving: seriously stop this crap this isn't soccer nor basketball show some class

- pushed around: the best player on this team BY FAR is getting ellbowed and no one willing to stand up for him? WTF

- losing against a joke of an expansion team, which can't even fill their own building without TorontoMapleLeafs fans *LOL*

- PP sucked as always since St. Nick retired...

Enough with the soft euro style, create a fourth line from hell like the TorontoMapleLeafs have done, after getting pushed around now they are one - if not - the toughest team in the NHL, that's how to build a fourth line Kenny.

I like what Bertuzzi brings, but seriously other enforcers are not afraid to fight him...guys like Scott, McGrattan, McIntyre, McLaren, Orr or Bordelau are striking FEAR into the opponent. Heck call Russia and ask for Trevor Gillies I will be incredible pissed off, if they view the next meeting against Ottawa as a normal game, it's a statement game so they better make one.

While Howard isn't to blame for the situation, he isn't helping either so what about giving the monster some games? He has played pretty well and even outplayed an elite goaltender in Tuka Raask some weeks ago.

Kenny has now 6 days in order to prepare for a huge statement game (not scorewise). Shed whatever salary can be shed, send the non producing players to the AHL/put them on waivers get McKee up, sign a top 3 enforcer tell them:,,no matter what the league is trying to tell you, EVERYTHING goes you'll be paid even if suspended just do the ......insert job....on Neil, Spezza or Karlsson tell McKee to crash Cowen through the glass Charastyle, crosscheck Karlsson everytime he is one the ice and nominate Lehner/Andersson for getting kronwall(ed).

This will be a game where I honestly don't care about two points, the DetroitRedWings need a huge statement game and if they don't react after this, Kenny deserves to be fired. An original 6 team getting pushed around at home, by a wannabe tough team thats unacceptable. If I am Babcock I'd be storming into Kennys office and tell him to either get me some tough, mean SOBS asap or I am out of here.

How did the enforcer called PP work? Not very well and it's gotten worse every year since the perfect human and Holmer retired!

I am so sick of blaming the refs screw.them screw Shanahan I want to see the Senators bloodied on the ice by the hands off our tough guys I want to see Neil getting knocked around by someone like Bigmac, Spezza ellbowed by Abdelkader and Karlson kronwalled, Cowen crosschecked in the face and good old fashioned line brawls.

I don't care about the stats, they are just that and people who aren't following the games can look at them and act like stats are telling the whole story, which they obviously aren't. That said with Danny K - the brightest spot - out goaltending needs to be better, no way around that.

Ok, my conspiracy theory regarding what the heck is going on with our talented youngsters.  When it comes time to sign them to a longer term contract, Kenny can make a lowball offer based on their bodies of work at the NHL level which will apparently be miniscule due to not playing them or playing them on scrub low scoring lines.  Then, when they are re-signed and occupying top lines/minutes he will look like a genious for getting them on the cheap.  OK, taking off my foil hat now.  Wings 6, canes 4.  LGW!!!

While I can understand the thinking behind this, keep in mind that there aren't many stars/superstars left on this team so guys like Tatar and Gus could just say? Screw that, either pay me my market value or I am going to play and compete with another team for Lord Stanley.

After the whole call up/waiving fiasco Kenny would need a lot of balls and gambling willingness to pull of something like that.

#2455648 Would you consider Howard on a "Cold Streak"?

Not that I fault Howie but I'd like to see the monster for some games, just to give him some rest.

#2455635 Babcock performance thread

Posted by frankgrimes on 20 November 2013 - 05:52 AM

Babs has a  good win %, in fact in the reg season its better than Scotty's was. I feel that he isn't getting the right players for the system's he wants
to use. So he either has to change his style to adapt to the roster he has or get Kenny targeting players that will work within the Babcock reign.
as for the roster, well I kinda get the feeling that were gunna ride it thru to the season's end and then Kenny can right the wrongs he's done by not
re-signing guys that are past their best. Loyalty is all well and good, but im afraid its costing us games now and at the end of the day, Mr I will only
stand so much before the hammer comes down.
on the plus side, if we carry on like this we could get a top 10 draft pick for the first time since Martin Lapointe in 1991.

I agree with this. Babcock doesn't like an all offense run and gun style, I always thought Mike prefers a grind it out 200 foot game. He needs a special type of players for this and Kenny has only provided him with finesse skilled players, that aren't playing or capable of playing a blue collar style.

So one of the two has to give, the best owner in all of sports is not going to accept mediocrity forever. Get Stevo Y or Chiarelli as GM's please and let Kenny become the vice president for hockey operation.

#2455633 11/19 GDT: Predators 2 at Red Wings 0

Tough to see tough to watch, the last time the DetroitRedWings were an exciting team has been to long ago. The retool/build should have started one year after the last cup run. Nothing wrong with not being a top team anymore but the problems rise up when :

Thr roster has no identitiy - coach and GM responsibility

Kenny and Mike are refusing to ice the best roster

Young guns are held back or in the AHL

Kenny signing guys that aren't useful for a rebuilding - yes I'm calling for a rebuild now - team Scoring 2 goals against the Nashville Predators is just wow.

#2454883 Brendan Smith

Posted by frankgrimes on 17 November 2013 - 08:18 AM

Lol the last game the Wings won was the last game Smith played in.

Really? I thought a young player, who didn't have the luxury of learning from the perfect human and just takes a bit more time to find his game would be the worst DetroitRedWings defender ever?

I like the guy and still believe he is going to become a very serviceable top 4 defender.

#2454435 GDT: Capitals 4 @ Red Wings 3 (SO)

Posted by frankgrimes on 16 November 2013 - 07:41 AM

Despite being 4th there are some concerns going on, at least for me.

Kenny is still thinking his mantra of you want to play for the DetroitRedWings? We are going to pay you fign salary but it won't be your market-value...is still working. Well it is not, this has been a team in transition for how many years now? I thought the season after the last cup-run in 2009 (= 2010) should have been the one to "blow it up a bit".  At that point everyone knew the perfect human would only be playing on a year to year contract, so it was either time to find a replacement (can't fault Kenny for Suter going to the Wild) or go young. Kenny did neither,

This is a franchise that has been - let's be honest - hanging on the last few years, as the current core got older and older, retired or flaout left for family reasons they were never replaced. Back when Holmer retired, I felt like o..O well his retirement might hurt the PP more than people think and it turned out to be true. So while the perfect human will and can never be replaced grinders like Holmer or guys like Stuart can and should for sure have been replaced either internally or via UFA signings, so god thanks for Danny K who is also a Michigankid.

Also I am starting to question the draft strategy, nothing wrong with boom or bust picks but personally I would prefer a mixture betweeen the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs drafting style = draft some big bodied saver picks AND some boom or bust not one way or the either. I know I know, it's incredible hard to do and accomplish but if this scouting stuff is as good as everyone thinks, they need to show it again. Mantha, Tatar and McKee were great picks but I would like more guys like big Mäci added to the mix.

Anyway the time to introduce the young players - for better or worse - should have been long ago or at least this season, having them dominate the minors is nice and all bnut at some point a team needs to throw them into the big water and see if they swim there and not be scratched everytime they are makinga  mistake, because the veterans need playing time...

Also be to fair, I'm not blaming Howard or monster for any of the losses, the goaltenders have to be play a nearly perfect game all night, if the offense can't produce more than 2 (!) goals in 80 % of the games. When Pasha and Z are having an off night there is nobody to step up offensively, Tatar for sure is working his butt off and trying hard but you can't expect a basically rookie to be as dominate as the only two remaining stars on a questionable roster.

I think, I've said it before but personally I would have no problem with the streak coming to an end but seeing the development of the promising young guns and letting them learn how to become the next core of this team, because the current core isn't going last forever.

If you can't score more than 3 goals against a team with a questionable defense, trouble awaits and no it won't get better, these are the first signs of things to come, if the front office doesn't realize the sad truth and that is........that a rebuild is going to knock on the door faster and faster :( do I like it? no, but it won't be as bad with guys like Tatar, Anderson, Nyquist, DeKeyser, Smith are nice pieces to build around although stars need to be added via UFA.

Just a classy move from Pasha to almost say sorry for the record, I think it's the other way around: thank you Pasha for all the joy you are providing to fans with your magician like skills sadly I wish, the team could reward you with another cup before your contract is up :(

Posted by frankgrimes on 12 November 2013 - 11:12 PM

i find myself looking less and less forward to watching them play, use to be hyped up all day waiting for puck drop.

Agreed watching some other teams play, who at least have some guys doing the physical stuff or staged fights, if they feel like their team could need some energy is often more entertaining than watching this 2 player roster...

Not even mad if the DetroitRedWings can't even win against bottom feeders at home(!) things aren't exactly looking good. Kenny said he is giving himself 20 games to see, where the roster is...well GM you have your work cut out for you and not a lot of cap to work with. Pasha was absolutely gassed why not bring him later in the shootout? Free up Nyquist ..if only this team had a goalscorer oh wait there was a guy named Brunner too bad he is under 30...

#2452858 Jimmy Howard And Monster On Punishing Goalies For Instigating Fights

Posted by frankgrimes on 11 November 2013 - 11:08 PM

I love fighting but thugs don't have a place on hockey, no doubt whatsoever that Emery has to pay for that soon. I'd say treat it as an assault with 10 games plus. Goaliefights are nice if both are willing otherwise screw it. Holtby should have pulled a Kessel and absolutely smashed this idiot with his stick. Can't wait till the TorontoMapleLeafs and Bruins are coming to Philly, MacLaren running through the net and smashing him into the boards would be fun to watch.

#2452234 Datsyuk and Zetterberg Moving Up Statistically

Posted by frankgrimes on 09 November 2013 - 05:01 AM

I don't think Z is going to catch either of the guys in front of him, Pasha should be able to make a run at Kozlov. I really hope, Aflie doesn't catch the perfect human Iwant to see this guy as high as possible.
