Just read somewhere, that the Isles fans are complaining about Tavares taking a beating with Martin out with a broken nose. So I guess Brian Burke was right, when he said if the enforcers are gone the rats will take over we are seeing that now.
Sending a message leaguewide that you can't go after our starplayers without payback (either fight our tough-guy or our tough-guy will go after everyone including the other starplayers). I mean how much longer are people willing to accept that crap ?
I'm sure if a guy like Frazer McLaren tells Benn you either fight me, or I'm going after Seguin, Nischuskin...basically anybody from your team then Benn will start to think maybe it wasn't the best idea to punch Z 2 times in the head, because if he doesn't fight then someone else is toast because of his actions.
It will do something; look at the NFL. Suh gets hit with a six figure fine, then he goes a full season without even incurring a penalty. Hockey players are tough. They're not scared of some half-assed fight. In many cases, no one ever lands a solid punch. How is that more discouraging than going after their finances?
Not enforcing the rules does lead to an arms race. That's why every team used to have a designated enforcer. It's also a terrible way of encouraging safety; just look at the lawsuit against the nhl.
i.e 2.500 $ fine for a guy who made 14.000.000 that year.
it's unbelievable and if the league isn't willing to really do anything it should be up to the teams to take matters in their own hands and mean business.
Benn should be facing a suspension, but since it was against a Red Wing, and Pronger is now employed by the department of player safety, I'm expecting to be disappointed. Still hoping Hank is OK. It would be only too fitting if next season, Benn went to hit Zetterberg and Hank went low like Stevie Y did on Pronger back in the day.
Nope Benn should have had to answer for that in Maguire style.
Nothing will come out off this if people are expecting pay-back it has to be done on ice if only guys who can do that were available ... oh wait they are it just takes a phone call to Toronto or Calgary.
Running to the league like ******* won't teach other teams a lesson, saying enough is enough will do so. I.e Isles Pens 2 years ago
Ha. I was thinking the same thing when I first said it.
And I'm not offended by it either, or a lot of other things people have to apologize for saying, but I can still understand why certain things shouldn't be said on such a widely viewed platform.
Yeah we are on the same page then, reminds me of how happy I was when some owner basically told the offended party to f*** off and find something elese to do instead of complaining about a team name *lol*
Not just Toronto has to be politically correct.
And he's a sports figure.
I would hope they made him apologize.
People need to start thinking about what they say before they say it.
If I had a little girl who was into hockey and one of her sports icons said this, I would be pissed that she's being belittled and talked down to by some random dou***bag.
Why should "everyone" just because some people who are offended by almost everything want to impose some dictationship like rules ? I'm not getting into politics here because I hate them and this is a sports forum...but I guess some people would be surprised by the amount ot trash talking that's happens during games.
Guess what be pissed about and tell your little girl to find another icon if it's such a big deal for you as a dad I mean there are 700 NHL players can't be that hard. People these days want all the information but some for sure can't handle it it seems.
It's exactly stuff like this why Toronto is having such a hardtime attracting free agents (despite some other shortcoming of course) but seriously they're making a big deal out of pretty much every non hockey related stuff i.e Bernier not knowing who Mandela is, Phaneuf not wearing an "official Leafs cap post game" and now this...I'm sure the players are frustrated enough already cut them some slack and let them focus on what's really important ...their job: hockey.
He had to apologize because the feminists in Toronto were not happy with his remarks. They had a couple groups on radio stations in Toronto complaining about it. Had nothing to do with the Hockey media.
I'd say let them complain then if they have nothing better to do it's their life if they want to waste it on such useless stuff go ahead
How about making the playoffs first?
There is still a lot off hockey to be played and lots of points to be had.
I don't think they are a contender and too easy to play against which will be exploited if they make the playoffs.
Right now the wings would be facing Pittsburgh ....
Yeah I just turned swipe off, because its WAYYY worse with it on ha.
But back on topic.
I think tml fans deserve better. Sure.
But I'm glad they finally deserved to scorch earth rebuild.
It'll be nice not hearing them think they're the bees knees for about a month every year
I think their knowledgable fans really deserve better, the obvious "I jump on the players bandwagon when he's good but will give him hell if he makes a mistake" bandwagoners don't. Franson just talked about the whole pressure there, I mean having 30 guys in the room even after practice ? That's insane like freaking insane.
Also I'm not sure what Shanahan is doing there, they've acquired another cocky heavily undersized kid ind Leipsic...are they trying to become the smurfs ? Instead of such a hard hitting fun to watch in your face team, which made the playoffs and almost beat Boston with that type of game ?Personally I wouldn't trade for or draft anybody under at least ~ 190 lbs.
Haha. Nahhh, the couple of leafs fans I reluctantly refer to as my "friends" call him Santa so often that I just started referring to him the same way.
But yeah that was a pretty effin good auto correct.
Usually it pisses me off but that one gave me a good laugh...
I wouldnt even have noticed it had e.t. not pointed it out.
Sorry for OT but that's the differense I've noticed after switching from my BB to Android too. Auto-correction has basically driven me insane especially if english isn't your native language because for whatever reason the two bigdogs (Swiftkey and Swype) decided it would be a good idea to have 2 language suggestions active at the *same* time ---> instead of just swiping left or right to activate them...Thanks to the handwriting feature of the S-Pen it's not as bad but man it has the potential to drive me insane.
1st round pick was too high a price, and with Toronto in our division, it would have been higher.
I don't remember who it was, but someone had some interesting speculation regarding any Toronto-to-Detroit trade. They said that above and beyond the traditional conference rival issues, there's also the whole "Mike Babcock to Toronto" issue as well. If Toronto wants any shot at landing Babs, they have to hope Detroit loses out early in the playoffs. As such, they won't be interested in sending Detroit any player that might help them make a a deeper run, since that would significantly lessen the chances that Babcock leaves.
That's actually a very good point and for sure the price would have been even higher if they traded him inter divisional
Kessel, for one, had no hand in the management failures of John Ferguson Jr., Cliff Fletcher, Brian Burke or Dave Nonis, which are at the real heart of a decade with just a single playoff appearance. Kessel didn’t botch draft picks, signings or trades. Nor did he fail behind the bench. Is Kessel a “coach killer” (as one publication described him) because management misallocated $36 million to David Clarkson or $23 million to Mike Komisarek? Or because that same group spoiled a compliance buyout on Mikhail Grabovski? Or because management, over the span of a decade, has been unable to replenish itself properly through the draft?
Where are you getting this 1st + Prospect from? You keep saying it, but every other place I've looked has said a 2nd and a prospect.Malik.
Dreger listed Dallas and the Anaheim Ducks as teams that would have interest in Cody Franson and that the Leafs would likely look for a roster player in his early 20s as the key component in any return. Failing that, Dreger said, the Leafs could be looking for multiple picks, including a potential first-rounder .
