#2473622 1/16 GDT : Red Wings 0 at Rangers 1

The injury excuse is getting old fast, this just isn't a very good hockeyclub and other teamd are having injuries too. Assuming the club would still be in the west they'd be already six points behind in the standings. At the end of the day at least Holland and Babcock are getting a lot of answers for next season and hopefully reshape this team in a lot of ways.

#2473063 I'd like to talk about this off-season/next season

My wish list is Steve Ott Dan gurardi mdz Wayne Simmons

Girardi, Ott, Westgarth would be a great Ufa day
Buyout Mule or Weiss to create more capspace

#2472838 2010-2011 drafts will be our savior

Posted by frankgrimes on 13 January 2014 - 07:46 PM

None of these guys has yet played a full season in the NHL, so how about waiting before we overhype them ? There is definately some potential but at the end of the day. I think, they are going to help fo sure but how much well the jury is still out on that.

The biggest hurdles will be replacing Pasha and Z either through UFA or draft :(

The olympics are the only international hockey tournament I really care about. It's nice to see the nations best players going at it for .

#2471835 What is going on in Edmonton?

Posted by frankgrimes on 10 January 2014 - 03:47 AM

Couple of things:

1. Rookie GM stating he would be bold things, well it takes two to make a trade and if he doesn't want to get rid off one of the younger guys for defensive help, there isn't much for him to do.

2. Six Rings Kewin Lowe - if he would really know something about winning (in his position), things would already be better  for them.

3. Rookie Coach who doesn't respect tradition, thinks he has to reinvent every wheel

4. maybe the most important thing: they aren't drafting BPAs needwise. Instead of trading down and getting another pick in the process picking another forward with KHL possibilities has was just dumb. Why not go for defensive help and add another nice pick for forward depth?

plus they aren't tough enough to play against, Gazdic doesn't get enough icetime for what he brings and waiving Bigmac clearly didn't help their toughness.

#2471505 Certain NHL attendance metrics are better than NBA

Posted by frankgrimes on 09 January 2014 - 03:40 PM

Is it sad that all I can ever think of when it comes to the NHL vs the NBA is this?

Well pictured, when I think of soccer and basketball I think of people lying on the floor crying and when I think of hockey, Bergeron, Stamkos (playing with a broken nose), Campbell (broken leg) are instantly coming to mind or lately Clearly, losing 6 teeth and gets back outthere.

Soccer or basketball players would act like the end is near.

#2471444 Pissed off: JJ speaking out

Posted by frankgrimes on 09 January 2014 - 04:21 AM

I fully support and understand him, if my *own* coach isn't willing to go bot bat for me, I would be having a hard time giving my all and more for him. Seriously, Jack Johnson was traded to the BLue Jackets, came in with a positive attitude and that's the kind of "thanks" he is getting from Richards ? Man if my personal coach would tell others I'm not good enough I would be changing him immediately.

Richards should kiss his .... thanks to players like JJ he is still having a job, yeah the guy [JJ] may not have the best season, but he is still miles better than the likes of Faulk. So how about backing him up and helping him out instead of basically throwing him under the bus ?

I'm starting to wonder, if team USA should change their braintrust, I think some of them can't spell the word "classy" it just isn't in  their vocabulary.

#2471408 Team Sweden roster announced

Posted by frankgrimes on 08 January 2014 - 06:57 PM

team USA all the way  but count me in as well as rooting for Sweden as my 2nd team.

I find this Roster to be the best on paper IMO.

It is a very good roster but their defense to me doesn't seem to be that good, especially compared to the very good Canadian one. Would have prefered Hedman or Murray over Oduya.

In the coming 4 years let's hope Nyquist is going to play his way onto that way.

If the Wings missed playoffs, I could only see them trading Alfie if he was sure he'd retire after the season. And only if he asked.
And for the people who want to tank and rebuild: why? Is getting one player worth delaying a Cup for multiple years? With a core of Dassyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall and Howard we need only to find the right pieces to be contenders again. Especially if the kids really do pan out the way we hope thongs will be fine. We as fans just lose patience because the CBA has all but killed trading and so we can only get pieces through annual free agencies.

If the prize at the end is Connor McDavid for sure. The core is getting older and there is not one surefire prospect with superstar potential in the pipeline. So sucking one year to get one isn't a big deal to me.

#2471282 It's time - to predict 2014 Team Canada

Posted by frankgrimes on 07 January 2014 - 07:21 PM

The thing is, 4 flying lines are not needed a top 6 bottom 6 approach is the way to go. The first two lines are going to have an unreal amount of speed, but the third and fourth line don't need to provide that they should be role players. Who cares if other teams are better skaters, clock up the middle and check everything that moves done by the third and fourth line.

Having said that, at the end of the day this is their roster and we'll see how well they are doing on the bigger ice.

Lucic may not be the fastest skater, but the guy provides size, physicality and intimidation not one team in the whole tournament has someone like him. Backes is tough but he wouldn't stand a chance against Milan Lucic.

Lucic - Getzlaf - Perry to me was a completely no brainer that line, would have scored, dominated and shut down other top lines no Benn, Marleau and Kunitz don't have that element in their game. Kunitz is just there well because he is Cindys Winger.

Instead of havin to form one defensive pairing, they now have to form two Weber + and Keith + ? Seabrook should have been on that team, with either Hamhuis or Subban as an emergency replacement.

Personally I also feel sorry for MSL, these are obviously his last Olympics and his own GM doesn't stand up for him, personally I would be pissed and ask for a trade.

Just for fun I did the caphit on team Canada, a whooping 150 million $ and now just dream about the quality of roster we would have, if it weren't for the stupid CBA...

another head scratcher is hamhuis?!?

Hamhuis over Seabrook is just wow.  Also I'm surprised that Lucic hasn't made it, the guy is a rugged physical mammoth, Lucic - Getzlaf - Perry would have been a nightmare to play against.

For me, there's nothing sexy about missing the playoffs and getting a 2nd round pick from Boston for Alfie. That's essentially 50th overall or something.

I'd hope that if Quincey was worth a first even in Holland's demented state, and Gaustad is worth a first, that we could squeeze a first round pick out of some GM if we could work up a bidding war frenzy.

It's better than getting nothing and also part of doing the classy thing by providing someone who is on his last legs with an opportunity to win his first Stanley Cup.

#2471115 Kindl not representing Czech Republic @ Olympics

Kindl hasn't played well so I'm not shocked by that, not taking Hudler although seems like a mistake.
