I don't think our record in afternoon weekend games is good.

Still, I hope the Wings bring their full bag of tricks. We are better than Minnesota, so let's at least see the Wings put up a better right than they did.

We generally fare badly in afternoon games, IIRC, but I'm not sure if that's just the regular season or not.

 

This is important.  They know that.  They'll be bringing their A game today.

Even more shocking is that Lidstrom never won it. He is the epitome of what the award is for.

 

Making an excuse for Ovy is wasting your breath (typing hands) because this is just one example of his outstandingly horrid back checking he has done. This is even worse because of playoff hockey. That's one thing on this forum i don't understand. You have a player like Crosby who is gifted at the sport and has the best hockey sense in the NHL yet he's more ridiculed then a player and an effort like this. Crosby has great respect for this game, Ovy has half as much....

 

Crosby's a great hockey player and he has worked hard to be one but he is a dirty, whining, diver who is a poor sport and sets a bad example to all his impressionable young fans.

Just watched the highlights on NHL.com but they didn't show the penalty.  If someone has it, please post so I can check it out...

It isn't anywhere. Normally on the Canadian sports channels if a penalty led to an OT PP goal they would show it but not in this case. I think the NHL has curiously lost the footage

Stats don't matter when you get pulled, scored on 4 times on 19 shots, and put it in your own net 2 times in one game. Stats do matter when you do none of that , which he did exactly last week. Last week he didn't mess up and played like he's a future hall of famer.

 

ELITE status doesn't comprise putting puck into your own net and getting pulled.

Detroit. 4 straight and they really deserved the win against Vancouver in the game before that. In  those 5 games not only did they win 4 of them but were dominant in all.

So glad we didn't get him. He is a good player but not worth near his cap hit.

LOL, since we like to beat dead horses, NO! Franzen is not a bargin, nor is he a 30 gaol per year guy. Franzen has made it to the 30 goal in a season mark once! In 08/09. That is it. 1 time out of 9 or so years. For his career, Franzen has played 512 regular season games. he has a total of 164 regular season goals. When you do the math, that averages out to 26 goals per 82 games. But Franzen doesn't play 82 games per year. His career high was 80 games his rookie season in 05/06. Prior to this year he played 472 games in 7 seasons. Which is a 68 game per season average. Using 68 games as his average, and multiplying by his career goals per game average, franzen averages 22 goals per season.

But Franzen is great in the playoffs! No, that isn't true either. He has been with us for 7 trips to the playoffs. In 5 of those trips he has scored 6 goals or less. In those 5 years he averaged .27 goals per game, which is LOWER than his career goals per game average. What franzen did do was have great PO years in 08 and 09. That was 4 and 5 seasons ago, back when he was 28 and 29 years old. Back when Z and Datsyuk were also having their career years.

Now on the plus side, Franzen is signed for 7 more years! For 7 more years he will take up 4 million of cap space. Even if he is retired! I wonder how much everyone is going to like Franzen, Z, and Kronwall in 4 or 5 years when we will be forced to let young stars like (example) Dekeyser walk because our cap is all used up! Just wait for it......

If you add the undrafted free agents who signed their first NHL contacts with the Wings that they have - Brunner, Dekeyser and Lashoff, it looks like a considerably better, more balanced and younger team than the one the Wings are icing.
All this is especially impressive considering that the Wings have had the least amount of first rounders in the years that these guys were drafted and they averaged the lowest drafting position during the years that these guys were drafted.

Oh he dives? So do a lot of people, it's up to the NHL for enforcing the penalties, because players are going to use every advantage to win.
