#2308078 Darren Helm signs 4 year extension

20 minutes AFTER LeftWinger posted the quoted post...

I wasn't correcting or criticising,... just sayin

#2308066 Darren Helm signs 4 year extension

Posted by Johnz96 on 19 June 2012 - 01:26 PM

I hope I don't get a lot of negs. I was not calling it a bad signing, or that Helm is a bum and not worth it or that Holland should be fired.  I was just hoping for less of a cap hit in order to make sure we have the cash to bid high of the players we need to change this team.  I am glad Helm is going to be part of that and hope that he signs again in 4 years to a lifetime contract...I just hope that this trend doesn't continue with the overpayment (around the league) because like I said, it's going to ruin the NHL when the Colton Orr's are making $4M soon...

That being said, we still have $24M left to spend of Abby, Parise, Suter, Harding & Schultz & Dekeyser & Welsh...so far I haven't lost out on anyone from my wish list! (yet!)

Harding's been signed

#2308020 Red Wings Prepared to Offer Hudler Contract

Posted by Johnz96 on 19 June 2012 - 11:09 AM

Well if you ever decide to actually watch a hockey game or two you might notice that: Parise >>>>>>>> Hudler...everyday of the week and on weekends.

I never said Hudler was better just that Hudler scores more frequently and if u think Parise is >>>>>>>>>> rather than just > Hudler maybe you should actually watch a game or 2 without s*** colored glasses on. The grass is not always greener on the other side.
Hudler at $4 mill is much better to have than Parise at $8

#2307998 Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

Posted by Johnz96 on 19 June 2012 - 10:15 AM

I wonder how long it will take for everyone to turn on Smith like they did with Ericsson.... The kid has Potential and a good skill set but he has played like 9 NHL games and wasn't phenomenal. People aren't being realistic and are setting themselves up for disappointment

He played 14 games and was great

#2307995 Red Wings Prepared to Offer Hudler Contract

Posted by Johnz96 on 19 June 2012 - 10:09 AM

I was being sarcastic.  The stat is absurd because it doesn't take into consideration quality of line mates, quality of competition, offensive vs. defensive zone starts, etc.  It's a s*** stat.  But by looking at it you would have to conclude that Hudler and Franzen score more often then Zach Parise.  Except Parise's 69 pts. to their 50 and 56 pts. (respectively) would suggest otherwise.  A stat like that actually penalizes a forward who draws tougher matchups and who frequently is put on the ice in the defensive zone (e.g. is defensively responsible and therefore a better player).

What's I'm trying to say is...it's a real neat stat.

Parise's 69 points is an absurd stat because it doesn't take into consideration quality of line mates,  quality of competition, offensive vs. defensive zone starts, how much they play etc.  It's a  s*** stat.
Goals per minute played is a more informative stat than goals on it own. Parise scored as many goals as he did in part because of the ice-time he got; more than any Wings forwards and a lot more than Franzen or Hudler. If Franzen and Hudler played as much they would score more than they did
Unlike Hudler, Parise always played with NJ's best
I brought up the stat because people here knock Franzen for consistency and frequency of scoring goals and talk like Parise is going to be some messiah. he scores goals less frequently than Franzen or Hudler, he is another small finesse forward like we have so many of on our team and in the system and he is probably going to be way over payed.

#2307822 Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?

Posted by Johnz96 on 18 June 2012 - 11:27 AM

I think Suter might be overrated a bit and will get slightly overpaid but he is a d-man and that tends to happen. I think parise is worth more and should be the Red Wings main focus. They never seem to have a sniper that can put the puck in the net consistantly. Not since the Hossa year imo.

Parise scored a goal every 56 mins of ice-time this year
Franzen scored a goal every 47 mins of ice-time this year

#2307739 If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

Posted by Johnz96 on 17 June 2012 - 03:13 PM

Yes please. Best third line center in the game when healthy.

I don't know if you can call someone who gets more ice-time than any of the Wings forwards a third liner

Last summer, this years UFA class looked really loaded. most elite players get signed to contract extensions during contract years

Schultz will only go to a canadian team

I never heard that anywhere

#2307644 Why Evander Kane is Worth the Price

Posted by Johnz96 on 16 June 2012 - 03:40 PM

He is young, the Red Wings are a great organization for him to grow  up in, although I still say Stewart is a stronger and meaner version of  the same type player who could be had for less in a trade and against  the cap, but I would trade for either of them, they re exactly the type  of player we need; young tough sniping power forward, Stewart would be  even more ideal because of the right-handed

#2307612 Zach Parise

Are all wild fans this stupid?

The  last time Detroit made the playoffs without Lidstrom, most of this  forum's posters weren't even born. Datsyuk is 2 years removed from his  last full season. All of their highly rated players are on the wrong  side of 30. Their second best defenseman is Jonathan Ericsson. They have  one of the worst goalies in the league. Barren doesn't even begin to  describe their prospect pool, and they don't even have a first round  pick this year. They're down to two forwards who could even hope to be  considered game breaking. Their #1 defenseman at this point would be  second pairing for many teams. They have only 3 players signed past  2013-2014, and one of those is an overpaid Franzen.

If there were ever a team with no clear reason for hope in the future,  it's Detroit. Even Vancouver (who has thrown caution to the wind,  sacrificing the future for the present) has a brighter outlook 3 years  down the road. Parise is rumored to be looking for a perennial  contender, not someone who will be one and done if they even make the  playoffs.

will be one and done if they even make the  playoffs.]

Reminds me of Stiffler in Goon.
I really liked the movie by the way

Right. Let's average <2 goals/game ext year.

We average >3 every year

In my opinion he is a punk/goon type more so then a hard working physical player. From what I've seen of him he seems like he has a sucky attitde too. isn't that why the Av's shipped him out in the first place?

I don't know about that. He is young, hopefully he grows up if that's a problem hopefully Datsyuk and Lidstrom and the Wings organization can set a good example for him but the guy's young tough and got 40 goal potential and is going to be more affordable now to acquire than he ever will be.

After Jones got 4 mill a year as the reward for scoring 37pts this year I can't really agree with you there.

Yeah but Stewart only scored 30 points this year, he was disgruntled with his role the and has the potential (he scored 28 goals in 62 games split with the Avs and the Blues (a 37 goal pace) the year before) of scoring 40 goals on a team like the Wings but because of his producton this year should be a bargain on a contract

Simply put, no.

This guy has never really gained my attention or done anything that makes me want him in the winged wheel. Would he help us? Sure! But I just, I don't know, don't really care for him. Plus like stated above the Blues are on the rise and they wouldn't let Detroit nab him. Again RFA = Most likely not going to happen.

He scored 28 goals in 62 games (37 goal pace over an 82 game schedule) at Smith's age, he young, is big, tough and mean, fast, great shot, perfect in a Holmstro  type role but could do so much more because of much better skating and greater strength, a RFA that is disgruntled (affected his production) about his role on the team. I thin he could be a 40 goal scorer playing with Datsyuk and or Zettrberg and he could step up for them and Howard when they're getting abused
I thought you like guys that can fight,
Just not young ones with 40 goal potential?
