Ugh why couldn't we have had all of this cap space when Hossa was a free agent.

In Topic: Semin signs one year, $7m deal with Carolina
26 July 2012 - 06:47 PM
One year deal, absolutely zero risk. Worst case scenario is he sucks (which I doubt, playing on Pav's wing). Best case scenario is he returns to being a 40 goal scoring sniper. Sure is going to suck sitting on all of that cap space with nobody to sign (even if we do sign Doan which we probably won't, we still could have afforded both). The fact that we showed almost no interest is baffling given Semin's potential. I know Holland has pursued all the top guys this summer and unfortunately struck out on all of them. The thing that pisses me off is the lack of foresight for the seasons leading up to this. Did he really think Nick was going to play forever? If all of us knew that Stuart was going back to California after this season, I'm sure Holland had some sort of idea. I really hope I'm wrong because I love this team but as it stands now I just don't see us as a contender. We're pretty much the same team as 08 just 4 years older with no Lidstrom and Stuart. It sucks.

Kinding feeling like at this point hopefully the cap will go down after the new CBA is worked out and other teams will be forced to get rid of some decent players that we can in turn hopefully pick up.

If they could afford to match it then good for them but at least we would have had a chance at landing him. I guess all I'm trying to say is I believe that we would have had a better chance at signing him to an offer sheet rather than trying to work out a trade. Could be wrong - just my opinion.Clearly the Wings WERE in possible trade scenarios for Weber. But if you'd like to go with your logic, then rest assured that they would be certain to match an offer sheet that would send Weber to a central division rival.
No.
